View Full Version : American Irony

Here's something I've noticed.

What is one of the reason that all of these whackjobs trying to kill us give for hating America? Our evil hollywood and music industries sending our horrible "values" over to corrupt them. Now who are the most vocal people speaking out against the war? The exact same people who started it. ( I know it's a limited part of the big picture, but I don't think anyone will disagree).

What really makes me mad is they put Clooney on TV to voice his opinion because he was in a movie about desert storm. So apparently, he's justified to follow Colin Powell as an "expert" opinion. Not too long ago a bunch of dimwit actors testified infront of Congress about farm labor laws, because they were in a movie about it. WTF? I'm sorry, but aren't actors people who essentially lie to get money? They're entertainers, just like a clown or a juggler.

celebrities=teh suck

They're all a bunch of arrogant imbeciles who think that since their picture is projected onto big screens that they are magically more important and intellegent.

I could personally care less how much the majority respects celebrities/sports stars or whatever...just so long as they don't expect me to give their opinions a lot of credit. I don't think America is entirely misrepresented by popular media, either. We basically have a 50-50 ratio of intelligence to smacktardery (woot, gg making up words).

I think we should actually just clone millions of tom cruises, Cameron diaz, etc then we should all be killed so the celebrities can rule like they should.

If you're implying that every woman in the future will look just like Cameron Diaz, then your plan has my support. TO THE MAX.

Nevermind that the cold war was won by an actor, or that California's best canidate for govenor in 2006 is also an actor.

For that matter lets forget that we were defeding another actor, in the Gun Control thread for his politcal views.

Personaly I don't think it's celebraties that are the problem, I think it's that you don't share their same point of view. Hell theres people on this forum that I'd like to see STFU (and I'm sure there are people that want me to STFU), but they have the same rights as the rest of us.

I don't agree with the whole "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV" mentality of some of these people, but if they feel strongly about an issue who am I to tell them not to speak out on it?

Celebrites come in both the "suck" and the "rock" flavors. It's like with any group of people, some of them are just plain stupid and others are worth listening to. There just happens to be more dumb celebrities than smart ones, IMO.

Damn you Unreg..... I was gonna put the clarification in, but I didn't think anyone would bring it up. What we have are actors who go out and actively do something to make the world better in their eyes (take Arnold for example, started those programs in CA), then we have those who played a Farmer in deliverance, so they should be considered experts on Farm relief. Yet again, damn you.

The thing about the US is you do indeed have a 50-50 ratio.

One half is the normal joe, like any other guy or girl from any other country.

The other half is sadly usually more present and vocal, this is the half that says things like "Screw the rest of the world, we should just take care of ourselves"or "USA is the best damn place in the world, country X sucks." and stuff like that. This half sadly often gives the USA an arrogant and spoiled brat look and many people have a hard time getting over that general misconception.

Celebrities get no respect from me, especially when it comes to politics. Most celebrities have an ulterior motive, in that they want to push cinema and television over the edge without intervention from the government. For me, they deserve no more respect than the average citizen and you would NEVER see me run up to a celebrity for an autograph or give them any acknowledgement whatsoever.

I can respect that they have opinions on important issues, but when they try to force it down your throat, I get irritated. I still get a little peeved when I think of Ben Affleck on stage with Al Gore, and how some poor fool, that is unable to think for his or her-self decides to support Gore because one of his favorite actors did.

arshune, hate to break it to ya, but the word smacktard originated in the MP demo of BF, relating to the circle jerks who would shoot each other over planes

Smacktardery is an entirely new word though. Oh yeah, and more specifically it referred to people who couldn't fly the planes well, and a circle jerk is an action, not a person. :D It's like woot...woot was around for a long time, but wootification is pretty new.
