Help with D3D8.dll

whenever i try to log on, i choose my character and begin loading sanc when "planetside has encountered prob and needs to close" comes up. Ive traced it back to directx D3D8.dll file. Ihave the latest directx9.0c and the latest vid card drivers, and been playing for a year up until now. any help?
