Open beta and gone gold, what do you think?
I'm hoping for an Open beta in Dec and Gone gold in Jan.
Of course i very much doubt my dream will come true. :)

I hope beta comes in dec, but i doubt gold will come till Feb/March
Yeah i suspect the gold is still 2 or 3 months off, as for Open Beta well that varies from game to game but for a MMOFPS i dunno if 1 month of bug testing is enough. Hopefully yes since i begin my holiday break mid-december. http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif

Allz I can say is: I hope closed beta is only a month. That would be r0x0r. :D

on average..
closed beta lasts about a month, open about a month or 2...during open beta the game will go gold, then a couple weeks after open beta shuts down, the game is in stores
Yeah but the thing is there has never been a game like PlanetSide before... :\
I'm wishing it had come a month ago and want it NOW!
barring that, jan/feb

which makes the timeframe less predictible.. I suspect they will want a longer open beta/stress test phase than MMORPG's
i wouldn't mind the game coming out in april as long as it means more quality testing

I thought I read somewhere they said they were shooting for realease in First quarter 2003. As a side note they also mentioned something about march being in the first quarter and were implying that they were shooting for late march for release.
I would bet that it ends up being released in the second quarter, at earliest.

They said that in the subscription gamespot movie

Well duh that's what i was hinting to, thanks for stating the obvious sherlock. :p
And yeah they are shooting for Q1 2k3 release but it doesn't mean they will succeed and it also doesn't mean that the open beta is near. Of course i, as well as you all i'm sure, hope it is. :)

Open beta will be much more important to this game than it was to the last big MMORPGs because LAG issues and "class" / empire balance will be major triggers for player population.
So i expect the open beta to be quite long maybe January till somewhen in March. I think beginning of April is quite realistic for the game going gold, but you never know....

If anyone is hoping for an early release in 2003 they have to be kidding themselves... there is now way it will come out earlier then april. For starters they wanted this game to come out summer of 2002 which we can see never happened. Second closed beta will probably not even start till middle of december at earliest. So open beta probably will not start till end of janurary or feb. Then give them 3 months of open beta to work out lag issues and empire balance. Plus they have Star Wars coming out and there is no way they will ever release anywhere close to that release date. Sucks but have to deal with it.

I think it's realistic, especially if they said it.
Gotta realize this is still Verant. Whatever you think of EQ, it's been running for a long time, Verant understands servers, network code and 3-D game engine development.
Some other MMOG's have suffered in beta because their network code sucked and the game was just plain unstable. Verant, I suspect, can avoid the worst of this because they already have plenty of in-house experts with experience at doing this sort of thing.
The only real question in my mind is how lag-dependent this game will be, and how they plan to address that.

My money says April-May release, with open beta starting in January.
