View Full Version : The news!

So there's no new threads as of late. Thought I might as well start a new one.

Let's try to give each other some news about what's going on in our lives.

I'll go first obviously.

Back to celibacy, left her and thought it was the good thing to do at the time. Turns out it isn't! Eh well! Life goes on! Recently my amateur MMA fights were outlawed by the Qubec government, I don't have to tell you how much this sucks for me... if I want to go anywhere I have to keep training and go straight to pro, meanwhile I've made a decision to go back to my military application (I'll still be going to school in carpentry while it's being processed).

Also I've just learned about a show I want to go to.

Tiesto Live in Quebec City. From 9pm on august 30th to 12pm on the 31st. No idea how this is going to run me.... hopefully not too much.... I'm hoping I can snatch some tickets online. Anybody went to any of his events? Are they any fun? Hell I don't even know how to dress for a freaking trance event. Any tips? ah!

Anyways! Let's hear from you guys!

I'll bite.

Internships didn't work out this summer.
I'm working part time in a supermarket meat department, I've been on the job 3 days and I still don't know what my wage is (Dude:"Well, you are going to make over $8.50/hr, other than that I don't know" Me:"Nifty"). Thus is the job market in late may.

I'm purchasing a silver 1991 5-speed BMW 318is coupe (e30 chassis that is) tomorrow, it's in GREAT condition, was swapped to a 325e (the 'eta') engine with an 'i' head on it. I may put a post of this up as it is really cool. It's about as classy as 4 stacks worth of reliable automobile can get.

Otherwise standard Rob-type intelectual pursuits apply:
Reading: Atlas Shrugged (objetivism is nearly the polar opposite of my views so it's slow going but a good book).
Practicing some photography and various musical things.
Working on an Engineers Without Borders project.
Getting into film a bit. Recently: Woody Allen

Near future - working until early August, returning to school, hopefully TAing a Physics Lab, working on a Phosphorous waste stream remediation device project, possibly going to India for the EWB project.

Getting drunk....got high for the first time last night. Got really fucked up, mostly vodka and tattoo. Drinking some beer right now.

Reported to my unit, just got my bonus, 6.8k, looking for a car and my own apartment, and many other nifty things.

Starting work at Taco Time again soon. Crap work, but some of the funnest times I'v had.

I agree with Rbstr in the fact that the job market sucks shit. I have officially been out of school for a year and still have no career to prove my educations worth. I just keep plugging away and applying to everything I can. I do work and make decent money but it's only a job to pay the bills. I hopefully have an interview coming up with Starwood Hotels. They own W hotels, Sheraton, St. Regis, etc. All luxury brands.

I found out a couple of weeks ago I got accepted for a trip to Israel. The program is called Taglit Birthright. It is a fully paid 10 day trip to Israel with probably about 30 kids my age (21-23). I am very excited to go. It's my once in a lifetime opportunity to see Israel.

I still play competitive paintball. In the middle of the axbl season (www.axbl.us). We lost our first two matches but we should rebound.

I have a wedding to go to this weekend so that should be a lot of fun. My friend is getting married. He is 19, she is 20 but I have good faith in them as a couple, despite all the backlash they receive for getting married so young.

I am searching for a job as well, but the choices are terrible. A couple I looked at payed 12 dollars an hour, but were taken by the time I go to it. Blarg.

I work.
I go to the same bar.
I drink lots of beer.
I'm always making my life difficult by doing dumb things.
Not really playing any games since I 100% GTAIV, except playing some online with friends.
Two weddings to be in over the summer.
Not divorced yet.

Nothing new really.

Well my luck sucks... I go to my favourite bar, have a drink, things get a bit hazy but now I have an affliction shirt ripped a sprawl hoody ripped and my fossil watch broken. My left eye ridge is split and a small cut under my nose.... I know I got the shit beat out of me.... just don't know why and how or who. If I find out, they're getting dragged behind a truck.

I have also been looking for a job, and nothing is coming up. Not that im looking for anything high paying, im still a student, but it would be nice to atleaset get someting. I stopped going to the gym in favour of doing distance running (up to 10k straight so far). I am thinking of trying to train for a Triathlon, but first I have to get the swimming part down.

Recently switched schools and vocations. I was originially going for Business Admin stuff, but decided that just wasnt me, so I switched to a liberal arts program which can get me into a University. Thinking about going after anthropology.

Dont really have anything big planned for the summer. Mostly camping and small trips with friends, and hoping that I can get a job.

Not much new here, been working a ton of extra hours doing sound/lighting work to pay for a nice vacation this summer. Extremely busy summer coming up at work with about 60 new computers and a few new servers to install :ugh:

Blogging (http://www.hammatime.net) every now and then when the mood strikes me. Otherwise coming home at night, drinking beer and playing GTA until I fall asleep..

Otherwise still married, trying to keep myself from buying the new 3G iPhone with active sync next month

Don't buy that damn thing. Its such a scam. Also, I just got started again on my blog (http://mattmosh.com) too, I hope I can keep it up longer this time.

Yea yea yea I always hear people say it's a scam. But I just don't see how it's a scamI see it as continuing to innovate and putting some sweet technology into new hands. Love the Multitouch crap :rawr: It's just the usual it's cool to hate whats successful

And yes agreed on beers.. have to meet up sometime soon.

3g isn't innovation...It's been in other phones for year+

Really, nothing apple has really done lately has been innovation. Unless you count marketing.

That's not to bad mouth them or anything, they make nice stuff. It looks cool and works well. But that does not innovation make.

Whatever you say :p I'm not getting into the dumbass argument again. I've been working in IT and with shitloads of Phones for almost 10 years but apparently I am speaking out my ass :p I didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday

If you think I am stupid enough to think that 3g is new I dunno what to say. It's the other features and UI that bring Corporate like functions to the common man, and it makes it easy. Unlike dicking around with your blackberry or windows mobile device trying to get it to work it's all there.

The first iPhone was innovative, and this one takes it to the next level.

I tell you what, multitouch is badass.

I still think the first gen iphone should have been 3g, and at that price point. Thats why I think its a scam.

I phones are nice, but my phone does the samethings, even the fun flip stuff. Its not nearly as efficient or fast though. Honestly, I'd probably buy one if I didnt have to switch providers.

Side note: FUCK BLACKBERRIES, unless its brandy.

How is it that everytime a thread even mentions the name of Apple... someone get's their panties in a knot and starts wearing a Che Guevara shirt... (closest thing to indie/rebel I could find) and starts a freaking debate which kills the thread? :P

What are you smoking 321? :p

Yea the first iPhone wasn't as good as it should have been thats for sure. It was also overpriced.

And I hate blackberries more than any other mobile device on the planet. I've wasted countless hours on those pieces of shit.

Good to see people are still around.

I finished my soph year at JMU in May, spent a few weeks shitting around drinking with people and going to the beach. Now I'm delivering pizzas for Domino's and spending the rest of my time at the river or lounging. Went to an Iron Maiden concert on Wednesday and Alkaline Trio last night which were both really fun. Dave is up next Saturday and Modest Mouse next Sunday. Probably will hit Warped Tour up as well. Other than that, planning my Euro and Vegas trips and anticipating going back to school.
