is ther a limit on the number of certs you can get?

Read the whole thread to really get a feel for the answer, but its still a nice tidbit from ole Sporkfire!

I don't think you need to worry about being forced to become too specialized. Although no character will be able to do everything available in the game, certifications do add up pretty well. I managed to get one of my playtest characters up to level 9 before we wiped a server. I was able to get him into agile armor, medium assault weapons, a MAX and a lightning. So, I had a character that was highly effective at defending the control console (MAX), scouting for enemy vehicles (Lightning), and was also effective as general infantry without using up even half of my lifetime certification points.
There will still be plenty of room for this character to take on a support role, upgrade to the Vanguard or take an air vehicle and upgrade either armor or weapons. Combine this with any Command abilities you might earn, and you are looking at a very versatile character.

With 4 certs and 10 points, no more than two of them can be 3-pointers.

I'm guessing agile and medium assault are 2 each, and the lightening and MAX are 3 each.

I've never been worried about being forced to only do one thing, and this helps justify that feeling :).

i bet he had a point to spare at 9 and that a MAX is 2... *shrug*

It really depends on whether all the MAX weapons can be purchased at once or individually. Anyone know?

Need to certift for each max individually.
