NBC's coverage of the Olympics is absolutely horrific. It's amazing that they won't show anything live. 3 hours difference from Vancouver to New York and they can't show anything live? Those fuckers are doing such a bad job. I tried to watch the olympics the other day and it was 10 minutes of the event, 25 minutes of some story about an olympic athlete, 20 minutes about his brother who has cerebral palsy, 10 minutes about Polar Bears. just show the fucking events.

Come on, you can't tell me that the olympics aren't a waste of money.

Take a look at montreal, it took them almost 30 years to get out of debt from the ones they've had. It brought them nothing but trouble really.

Plus what's the point of it? There's already a metric ton of world events for athletes to compete in... sure none of them are covered as well as the Olympics but they are still covered none the less.

Meh well... maybe it's just me haha....

While your points are vaild, there are exceptions.

Not all cities that host the events lsoe money, Calgary as an example. If its done right, it can be a huge economic boost to the area, however if its poorly done its just a black hole for money. I cant see this being great for Vancouver, as the games have been poorly done, and there have been a ton of problems that have come up.

As for other events all over the world, thats true too, but The Olympics are a great showcase for events such as Cross Country Skiing, Luge, Speed skating, and the lot of track events in the summer games. While they run world championships for skiing, marathon, track, etc., the athletes never receive the publicity and recognition from those events. Making a global gathering every four years is great for these athletes, as it gives them a milestone to aim for, and it can provide them with the opportunity to get more publicity and the chance to pick up sponsorship and help push their career more.
