View Full Version : Role-play
Airlift in the "losing side.." thread got me thinking. Anybody here plan on or is interested in RPing in Planetside.
I used to RP on PSO on the DreamCast with a group (CRP) and it added so much fun to the game. I was wondering if anybody here plans on doing the same.
You know creating backstories, posting them here or another forum then playing them out in-game, interacting with the other people, etc.

rping is fun!
as long as ppl get that your roleplaying, and not being a smart arse.
"where you from?"
"Base-435 in sector 7"
"lol funny, but seriously"
"Base-435..."
"Ok Fine, #@$%#"

Yeesh. I sure hope not. If some guppy comes up to me trying to RolePlay I'll frag his ass.
I'm hoping for a 100% stratiegic teambased first-person shooter. Not Futuristic EverQuest. And even though most EQ players don't RP that's where the background of it and games like it came from.
I want Massively Multiplayer Quake heh. Thats what i'm hoping for...

if a guy trys rp to you, A) hes on your side, cause B) you can't talk/chat with enemy's, no double o's in this game.
Emote taunting is possable though
*Taunt*
/me beckons
Ok i'll clearfy i did indeed mean RPing between team members and with people predetermined not random people.
Like say 5 of us here decided to RP we make our stories bla bla bla then in-game we "by chance" meet up and RP while fragging.

Yes i did mean frag my own teammate. (Well if he's in my squad so i don't get automated grief punishment  ) But yeesh some guy yacking away about how his home planet got destroyed or some shit while there are enemies advancing? Funk dat I'll ignore him and use him for cover while he's typing. :D
Yes roleplaying is a fun concept but I just can't see doing it in a FPS.

PSU will have roving reporters from each empire reporting from the battlefield. But I doubt there will be much RPing
Again more clearification. :)
Obivously you wouldn't be hacking away in enemy lines. Here's an exampkle of said RP.
-Stories posted on net
-2 people meet in game
-Chat a bit in base
-For any reason they must do a mission or kill someone or whatever
-Acomplish it
-Come back to base and begin anew
Bascially it's just to give some more flavor to the missions and have some RPing fun.
And i'm not saying i'm starting a PS RP guild or anything, i'm jsut wondering if some people planed on doing so or not. Game isn't out yet so we can't really say or not if it's plausible to RP in game. :)

I think there will be about as much roleplaying as in NS. :D
FPS + Roleplaying = Water + Oil
No mixie!
I enjoy roleplaying very much, but most FPSes don't have any roleplayers on whatsoever. This may be because it's so action packed that there's no time to say "I'm a veteran bounty hunter from the lands of Wilgrue. My people have been persecuted for their soceity and I am fighting this cause for them, so people can finally see that-" *KER-BLAM* ...stain on the wall.
PS will be the first of its kind. So in all likelihood it could have RPers. Methinks not. RPers will more likely spend their energy planning combats manuvers or certain tactics. I know I will.

Persistence lends itself to a good RP environment, and roleplaying is not all EQ cheese. I'll get into my character and have a back story and such, but don't expect to hear me expousing thees and thous. Around these parts it'll be "No Sergeant" and "Yes Sir".
We'll play guess our JG handles later AntiSmile.

Even in deticated RP servers, RPing dosen't happen very much.

Even in actual RP games, like NWN, I find it impossible to RP unless you do it with a dedicated group you have met beforehand. You'll have to do this in PS too.

I role play, but yes that:
"Where you from?"
"Base-435 in sector 7"
"lol funny, but seriously"
"Base-435..."
"Ok Fine, #@$%#"
Would piss be off cause everyone knows there is no Base 435 in sector 7, yeesh. Role-playings Fun, but yes, whilst thou beth fragging the foeth (I know to many th's) its not needed, and this is space, so why are we all talking with British accents if we are in space and there is no Britain? (5 kudos points if you know where thats from)

Yeah this is what i was thinking of. Not just playing the game but rather creating a real person for it. And no big theatrical scenes or anything but rather a few short RP sessions in between missions and whatnot.
But like i said before planing anything let alone RPing i need to get the game and get the feel of it. :)
ARRGH CAN'T WAIT FOR IT!! :(

First of all this game is called a MMOFPS and not a RPG. Second point is that this whole game is completely about combat, there's no economy and if I understand it correctly there aren't even NPC's. The characters we have are all stupid military people :p so that would rule out any intelligent conversation.. Except for perhaps commanders or something.
But I will try to use a persons character name when working together not just his/her nick. And I'm gonna use phrases like "Cover me, I'm going in" instead of "Oh man he's gonna get pwned by my 1337 cs zkillz". But then thats far from real roleplaying.
@Dio : yes thats what i mean, short in-character conversations between combat. Also speaking to my superiors would be nice :) Or my own slaves in the field of course (if I have any) :)
