View Full Version : Public Transport

I think a public transport system should be added to each continent for infantry units. Such as a railway that intersected the continent and had stations near the bases. It's hard to work out the details, however. Any ideas?
1. Can stations be controlled?
2. Can infantry units spawn a train car and choose their destination, or is there a static train(s) that makes rounds to each train station?
3. How close are the train stations to the bases?
-Could the bases have underground stations? (which would open up a new area to defend. Defending infantry units would have to check the underground station whenever a train passed through to be sure no enemies boarded)
4. Would the train cars be weaponized or neutral?
-AA and mounted guns to defend from vehicles and attacks while en route?
5. Would the train cars be destructible or not?
6. Closed-in passenger type cars or simple cargo cars?
-Passenger type cars would open up some really fun infantry battles. Such as a squad boarding a train that has enemies on it and going car to car fighting for control of the train.
7. Train operator NPC or player controlled perhaps? (would tie in with #1)
I know there were a lot of times I had to get somewhere but there were no vehicle terminals nearby or I had heavy armor on, and was left with the option of killing myself or finding a nearby tower and using the max suit. I think this would be a great addition to help improve the pace of the game (especially for new players that can't yet afford to put certs in vehicles). It would open up a lot of new and exciting experiences for people that like to play as infantry units.

I like the idea. There was a Train in WoW you could take though it was just a gimmick really an didn't actually move in the world just an instance.
But there is a certain fun factor to waiting on the train then riding it somewhere. I actually enjoyed the public transportation option that was in Planetside as it was. People complained saying it should always be there without a wait time but I think its fine the way it is. Gives a sense of the world being a real place an not just being able to teleport to where ever.

I think a public transport system encourages zerging and foot-slogging. We have the HART - that should be sufficient enough. I mean, come on... a monorail in a war zone?
Spawn to Sanctuary. Get with your outfit or merc up. Load up the Galaxy or what-have-you. Go fight.
The end.

Train in a war zone isn't that unbelievable. Got to move supplies around somehow. Being the future they would probably be underground an fast.
I actually don't think encouraging foot slogging is a bad thing. I enjoyed loading up in a Galaxy. But I also felt some potential depth was lost when it was so easy to just completely avoid the ground war an fly directly to targets of priority. Terrain an holding chokepoints, bunkers an what not cease to be a factor when you can just fly right to the base or tower.
In fact I kind of had an idea where you could control Missile Sites that created a no fly zone for a good distance around them forcing the enemy to invade by land. I actually think it might make the game more popular since when looking at most popular FPS on the market people primarily enjoy playing Infantry ground wars in more urban complex environments. They don't enjoy being in fields an getting bombed by aircraft.

To be honest broadcast warp gates do the job pretty well; you fast travel to them then have to get from them to the fight... most of the time people have a vehicle so you are talking about no more than 5 mins to the fight; even if you don't, just use the HART.

I assume getting to the fight will now be no problem. Being able to pull a basic vehicle should be quite easy. In fact, it always was possible in Planetside: THE GODDAM ANT!
That being said, anyone asking for public transportation is simply to goddamn lazy to drive.
But with the recent reveal of the Sunderer (Bangbus), i shall open Auraxis first Bus Company: Bastis BangBus Bros, or 4B. Prices are: For guys: Nothing, you males are not allowed on the bus. For Girls: 1/2 Hour of "special time" for every 1000 meter of travel.

That sounds like the slowest semi-public transportation service in existence

While at first blush, I like the idea, but I think Firefly is right. Something like this kinda discourages using player transport. I'd rather have an "I need a ride" voice macro. V-V-R

They are reducing the HART timer, so largely irrelevant.

I hope the Sunderer is pretty fast. Not too fast, but faster than you would think it should be. Just make it take quite awhile to build up to full speed. Slow acceleration.

I thought they were getting rid of HART completely? Just getting rid of Sancs? Where will you get the HART from?
