I'm trying to show some friends of mine what planetside is all about in anticipation for PSN, but I can't seem to find any info about whether a trial exists anymore? Is it possible to try the game out anymore without dropping the $20 for the client?
Sony really makes it nearly impossible for anybody new to play this game. $20 for the client for a game this old is absurd honestly given the $15 a month subscription fee and the planetside website is full of dated information about the game and the link to download the client from the sony store is broken considering you can't even buy PS off the sony store anymore.

Actually they just killed the Trial system a few weeks back due to hackers using them:

You don't need to buy the game anymore. It's just a subscription of 15

Download the station launcher then login. That's how you download planetside

Do you know if there was a press release about that? My friend is saying that The soe launcher is pointing him to direct 2 drive to purchase aftershock?
Maybe he needs to subscribe to the game first to get the full game via patch?

I thought it went up to 19. I distinctly recall the sub price going up a few bucks, AFTER the game was already well past its prime (when they went down to one server, I think?).

I just resubscribed and it's definitely $15, but I feel like it may have been 12 at some point.

It was cheaper, I believe they raised it back when they launched the station pass.

Given my budget constraints.I won't pay $15 to see what this game is all about. No free trial keys. Then I can't try it.
Note...from a marketing standpoint this makes no sense(yes I'm being kind in my choice of words).

Not that this is an answer but..
They removed the trial due to they were being abused big time by hackers and cheaters.

Im looking for a trail too, and during my research i figured out, that buying the game (amazon, ebay etc.) for 1-5 bucks, is much cheaper then subscribe for a month. you get a month free if you buy a new copy.
but the question is: do you need the expansion "Core Combat" to play the game?

If I am not mistaken it's all included now. Even if it isn't, the only think you cant do is go to the caves or use ancient tech weapons.

Hey Guys
i'm sure you have been over this about a thousand times but im new to this so i have to ask,
after reading your post i downloaded the installer and tryed to log in , but it says i have to subscribe before i can download,
i have just brought an all access pass from sony but when i go into the planet side details tab it says i hav'nt registered any code so i still have no acces what do i do?
Zentavious you never bought the game, so that is the issue. Getting the All Access pass doesn't give you access to the games, but allows you to play all of them if you bought them at a discounted monthly sub.
You can get the game at Direct2Drive (http://www.direct2drive.com/79/product/Buy-PlanetSide:-Aftershock-Download) for $10. With all this publicity now maybe a good time for SOE to talk to Direct2Drive and do a $5 promo to let people try the game out.
