So John has noted that PlanetSide Next is a "Codename" in one of his recent interviews. This hints that PlanetSide Next is not the actual name of the game.
The question is what would you name "PlanetSide Next"?

Well, it has to be "PlanetSide" after everyone who has spoken about the game including myself.
I'd name it PlanetSide.
I'd just overwrite the previous version and keep the name "PlanetSide". Because why not? It would be like a major update then, and there would already be accounts for the game.
Also, put the game on Steam!

G.O.A.T. - Greatest Of All Time
or
World of Starcraft. Legally you couldn't make it stick, but it would generate a hell of alot of publicity which would be a good thing if the game is supposed to be released here in the next few monthes.
or
Planetside: Ultimate Space Skirmish for Years (P:USSY)

Smed says on his blog that they don't want to just name it PS2 because of what happened with EQ2... not overly sure what that means though.
PS never got the exposure that it deserved, but naming the new game simply PS wouldn't differentiate it enough, a lot of people may not even realise it was a new game.
Looking at the (oh so informative) screen shots seems to tell us it will be a straight remake (maybe), so we will wait and see.

Perhaps they can just switch up the spelling to make it cooler like...
Planetsyde.
You see how the 'y' makes it more raw. Rawer.

PlanetSide: Next
I actually really like PlanetSide: Next and I agree, I think they should stick with the codename.
I don't think keeping the name PlanetSide alone will work, and I don't like "PlanetSide 2" either.
I would suspect if they go any way it will be something similar to the time period we will be in I can't see them re-creating the game in the exact same time period.

That is the worst name I have ever heard in my life. In the long list of bad ideas in history, yours takes the taco. What kind of idiot would name anything "Planetside: Universe"?
You would never catch me on anything called Planetside: Universe. Nope. Not me. Not ever. :D

Planetside: Return of the Vanu. The continued war in the Auraxis system has brought the long-believed dead aliens back to the system. The Vanu Sovereignty absorb their culture and tech. The Terran Republic see the aliens as a huge threat. The New Conglomerate see the return of the Vanu as an opportunity to gain favor with the Vanu while keeping their human heritage.

It's a bit long but they can just make the box bigger.

I dont believe that the name will be Planetside: Next; SOE has not yet registered that domain name under its brand, and it is in fact owned by someone else.
You would assume if they were this close to a release and this name is so publicaly being used they would have assured the domain by now.
Im attempting to find a way where I can start searching Domain Registars to search for everything with Planetside*^10 to try to find what Domains may be registered by SOE, so that maybe we can find a name.

I like it! Planetside 3: The Search for Planetside 2
Speaking of, we my all be over thinking it a little here. We are all kind of avoiding the blatantly obvious title of "Planetside 2". Now, the reason for this seems to come from a blog from Smedley saying they learned their lesson having Everquest and Everquest 2 on store shelves at the same time.
Well, I think any of us would be hard pressed to find Planetside in any store, and I can't imagine they are selling many new copies.
On top of that, SOE owns the domain "Planetside2.com" which it looks like they bought in 2009.

They bought that domain so they could have it redirect to their site. Its not going to be called PlanetSide 2.

Well yeah, thats what it does now on 2/3/11. But it should be interesting to note that they own "Planetside2.com" but they don't own "PlanetsideNext.com"
It may come down to something trite like that.
Hey, you finally fixed the title! :D
