Is it true that modems cannot be used in any of the betas!
Im asking this because i have a 56k and am desperately waiting for the betas... so should I just stop waiting?
I know in the past some betas have only been for broadband, but once you think about it, its not very smart scene its a test. Its necessary for all types of hardware to be tested in betas...
What would happen when you officially released the game and found out that there was a bug that effected connection speed so much 56kers would over lag... the 30% of todays game has a dial up, And 30% of the people who buy this game will most likely modem users, and thus you have 30% of all the people quitting right off the bat just because you wouldnt have a few modem testers in beta
I cant get broadband because Im too poor, in less than a year, broadband costs usually more than any piece of hardware in the average computer, and even in some cases more that the computer itself, which is ironic because it is the most unnecessary piece of equipment in a computer...
Im sorry if Im acting despite but I really need to know!

Too bad... So Sad.. I hate 56k

It's true that no modems are admitted for Exclusive Beta testing.
It is NOT true that no modems will be in Open Beta. We'll have as many types of bandwidth connections, video cards, CPUs, etc. in the Open Beta...*including* 56K modems.

The game definitely supports modem-play.

Damnit. :( They shouldn't discriminate! Just because some of us are on 56k doesn't mean we can't offer suggestions and find bugs!!! :\

Exclusive Beta has to download the 2.3 gig beta file.
Assuming you were capping your bandwidth, you would be downloading at 7kb/s.
It would take you 3 days, 19 hours, 16 minutes.

broadband costs usually more than any piece of hardware in the average computer,

the amount of time that i spend surfin/playin online makes havin a broadband good for the economy. if i had a 56k modem it would cost vvvvveeeeerrrrryyyy much money

7? Try 5. :)
It wouldn't wouldn't actually be that big of a problem, except it'd probably take about a week. Oh well, I just really hope they don't totally forget about 56k in doing the netcode and all. :( There aren't many of us left!

5.15k is the normal max speed...

If there is no save dwonload type program.. and your connection shits.. you gotta start over.

go to:

http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

And test your connection

Everybody can resume downloads if the site supports it and they have the software. :)

Theoretical cap though is 7kb/s, since there is 8bits in a bite. The odds of you getting that though are pretty slim unless you are connecting in your neighborhood.

56k modems will be in beta, just not this stage. Their issues will be heard and addressed during External Beta testing.
