If anyone has ever heard of ultima online it is a online game that came out in 97, and people sell stuff on ebay for real cash.... the prices are a little insane... for a game

I rememeber in EQ when I was low level I considered buying plat, but I didnt, and then when I got to HL and was a druid who farmed like a mofo, and was a master talior/JC/blacksmith/potter/fisher(woot) I had loads of cash, and has nothing to spend it on. I did not have the best druid items in the game, but I had some good stuff. But that cleric with way crappyer stuff and who was 5 levels lower would still get the group.

Two things to keep in mind:
1: Most of the people buying this aren't like us, they are the ones with lots of money and little time. Thats why we can sell characters and such to them. And 41 months of your gaming life for $500...thats a pretty reasonable price. Sure you had fun for a lot of that time, but you can make a whole hell of a lot more money than $500 if you were working instead of lvling up. (as I said, more money than time vs more time than money)
2: Most people aren't buying the really expensive items, the one for 999,999 doesnt have any bids, and never will, because its a ridiculous price. The ones in the 500 or less range have more bids because some people are actually willing to pay for it.
It all comes down to how much time you have, sure the money is fake, but it represents a lot of time investment. I don't play EQ, but I would imagine that it would take a long time to get 3k plat. So what makes more sense? Work 3 hours at minimum wage and get $15 to buy it, or spend a long time online trying to do it yourself?
