I guess most have seen "saving private ryan" and played the first MoH with the Omaha Beach opening scene. on that topic I'd like to see a new PS:N landingcraft like the Higgins type seen there.

my vision is basicly almost the same looking wehicle but with roof and wheels or hover ability and a bit more future design.
- one driver and room for a squad in the transport compartment.
-front loaded only for transported troops.
- what would make it different from the other PS transportwehicles is that when the front ramp goes down everyone inside will be able to freely run out, but everyone inside can be shot from outside since the front cover provided by the ramp is now gone. this means that a squad could load up, drive to the action and be unloaded charging into the enemy --> forward momentum kept in the assault.
- the landingcraft would have very strong front cover but weak from the sides and not a lot of firepower, maby just som kind of smokescreen to hide its movement
- having all dismounting from the front would aid keeping the squad together and keeping focus on the team, but it also means that the enemy will be knowing where to aim.

- (just an additional thought) what could add even more excitement would be if the troops inside only had limited info of what was going on outside, leaving it to the driver to tell what they should expect. (backside is though if driver decides to pull a prank and let everybody charge over the edge of a cliff :) )

I picture epic assaults with several landincrafts escorted by tanks rushes towards the enemy defences, suddenly the landers slow down, ramps goes down and soldiers pour out during heavy fire and starts running towards the enemy defenders in classic movie style.

what do you think, would it be possible?

It would be possible... but why bother when we have the Sunderer and Galaxy?

These things would be easy kills for aircraft who could waste all the infantry inside with a single salvo.

Squad drop pods with a spawn point and rearm terminal however that stick around for as long as they are being used, or until the squad leader grabs another vehicle...

well, basicly just for the fron loading where everybody could run out in front together, otherwhise it's just the same principle of transport as a sunderer but there you need to dismount from all sides... and well an aircraft can take out all the infantry inside a sunderer if they dont bail quick enough, right?
now when I think about it an AA gun insted of a AI gun would be useful here to get rid of the planes, so it could protect itself from the sky with the gun and plow into the enemy, but if flanked you're in trouble and have to maouver yourself out of the mess. then one combine 2 skills and logic(not to drive straight towards where the enemy has all its AV) to make the insertion succesful.

I suppose these would only be useful for the first wave, then it would pretty much be spawning from AMS afterwards, but then again so is it for all the other transport vehicles... and the first wave is supposed to be the exciting one right? :)

I saw Saving Ryan's Privates, does that count? :D

Actually, I think this is one of those really cool ideas that I just don't think would work in actual gameplay. For example, I'd like to be one of those enemy machine gunners with a bunch of fish in a barrel right in front of me.

Also, I think it would depend on the map because I can see a landing craft like this being very effective getting troops to attack from an unexpected flank, but how many places would you be able to do that?

Certainly a very cool idea, and anytime you can get massive coordination together, you are going to have an epic time. Part of what I love about PS are what I call "action movie moments" and the game is filled with them.

Deliverers are amphibious - why do we need more vehicles to do the exact same thing?

I recall they landed something else in shaving Ryan's privates ;) but it's close enough...

well, i felt inspired and creative fore once and whant to share my creation even if it doesn't really make any difference.

I scrapped the wheels and gave it hover ability to look more like the old type of landingcraft. It has also an AA gun and reinforced front armour.
the front load/unload whould mean you would rid the time it takes to orient yourself getting out of a sunderer and the time it takes to arm you weapon, just run straight into the action!

See thats cool. I can certinaly imagine how fun it would be to have a squad pouring out of there in a hail of gunfire like something from Saving Private Ryan, or those dropships from Starship Troopers.

To play devil's advocate though, I think most amphibious landing craft actually have the troops come out the back door so they have some immediate cover because when that door drops, you are totally exposed.

I've thought about something similar before, but my vision was a flying craft that looked something like a lodestar, only bigger. You could pack about 30-50 people in it, and land/deploy or just open the gate midair and let them hotdrop.

The idea being transport for a huge number of troops, but no on board weapons. Great for grabbing all the scrubs who don't have a vehicle or to drop an entire army on the sneak.

YouTube - Saving Private Ryan - Omaha Beach Part 1 - HD

I don't remember it ending well for those boys in the transports, I think in the PS era the militaries have moved on from that style of transport.

Imagine a destructible environment!

Driving that badboy full speed at a base . . .

SMASHING through a wall . . .

Ramp down and troops poor out . . .

Defenders rushing to seal the breach!!!

Phew i got a bit too excited then :)
