Future headline: Planetside killed by Planetside: Next Beta

So, Smed tells us that if you have a subscription to Planetside, then you will automatically be put in the PS:N Beta. The obvious question to me here is, will anyone be playing Planetside once that happens?

The pops are already low, and you know most everyone will want to play the beta over the original. What do you guys think the population over/under will be once PS:N Beta gets launched?

I am surprised that PS still has some life in it after all these years of neglect; I don't mind sacrificing it to get players into the PS2 beta.

I see no reason to keep the original going if the beta is for the most part a fully functional game running 24/7. PS would be a no mans land as a result.

I'm hoping for one final farewell to Planetside event the day before PS:N Beta starts. It's the least we can do for a game that although shit on by SOE for longer then anyone remembers, gave us so many fond memories.

I'd like to see the original PS stay up, but become completely free to play, who cares if there are no updates. Maybe even take out a couple continents, make all certs free but can't have'um all at same time. But then I think the hackers would just surge back in.

There were times I thought SOE should just close PlanetSide down entirely. That will probably happen when PSN launches.

I'd agree with this, except I would suggest the date be a bit after the PS:N beta actually starts; long enough to be sure that the game is actually what the majority of the community is looking for...

That said, I see no reason to follow the EQ/EQ2 set up and keep both games running after PS:N is released; no reason to split the population amongst the two games...

I think it's inevitable that original will die with ps:n , howether I hope they do an 'unbending week' with all the meteors and stuff for last days . I don't think they will though , would need support to do it and probably not worth the effort .
But part of me feels like the old game needs a good send off before it goes. It's been like a sick dog in your home , it's back legs have almost given out on it , and you know it's time will be soon but it's been part of the family for so long and you dont want to be the one who has to take it on a long drive to the woods with a ***** in the back of your car.

An "unbending week" would be pretty badass. I'd like to see the community get together to give it a good farewell, kinda like what we all did when they merged servers.
