View Full Version : BFR Confusion

It's possible this was answered somewhere else on the forum - but I can't seem to find anything relevant.
I've recently subscribed in the hopes of piloting a BFR. I played in beta, but haven't played since - recently got the itch and returned.
I've read descriptions on how to get licensed for the BFR's, but in game it's very very confusing as to exactly how this is possible. Apparently I have to take part in cavern battles and get attuned somehow? Do these battles still happen? I couldn't seem to find them anywhere. Is this going to take months to accomplish?
What is the easiest way to go about claiming this certification? I feel pretty cheated not being able to play a BFR after buying the addon that advertizes that you can play them. Could anyone lend a old player / newbie a hand?

You may want to check your character screen and see if you can already get the BFR. I was gone for a few years, and when I came back I was "BFR Imprinted" meaning I could cert the BFR. I was never a fan of the caves, so I was still working on getting enough unique kills down there. Basically, I'm not sure what the requirements are, but you may be automatically "imprinted" if you played for long enough. Perhaps somebody else can confirm that?

No - it says I need certification. I played during beta, I never did subscribe before. Effectively I'm a new player in the game's eyes. Heck, its been so long I might as well be a completely new player.
But still - seems like quite a journey to be certified for something that's advertised as being able to play when you purchase it. I'm fairly disappointed, any tips on getting it done quickly?

cave battles are the way you used to get attuned, no idea if that restriction is still in place or not...haven't logged on anything other than my main or my alt (both were imprinted years ago) since ive returned.
reqs used to be 100 unique kills (meaning not the same guy in a +/-5 minute time frame and the guy had to be alive for +/-5 min so spawn camping or killing your buddy didn't count), and 10 cave base captures that weren't ghosts...like i think you had to get like 1k bep for the base going through for it to count.
since the game died down a bit, they lowered the restrictions to 75 unique kills and 4 cave base captures.
they however might have done away with it though, if you press 'u' or whatever you have your character sheet bound to (where you see your bep/cep/certs) the bottom left corner has a box that used to keep score for you, x/75 kills and x/4 bases. after the 2 things were completed it read 'bfr imprinted' or something to that effect
getting your flight variant BFR is a whole different tale - after you get your BFR cert i think its 100 kills and 15 in 1 life? god bless you if you actually plan to get the 15 in 1 life. BFRs arent much tougher than a wet paper bag these days...unless you're camping a tower or air pad or something cheesey. even then i cant see it going that smooth lol
edit: also can you please show me where on the box or their website it says you can log in and load up a BFR? cry more or call your lawyer or whatever for false advertisment of an 8 year old game you just decided to pick up today lol.
i'm sure a much better false advertising claim can be made because there probably was verbage on the box about massive battles 24/7. given i havent logged in much since the servers came back up but come later in the evening you generally got 48% global TR or only 18 NC logged on
edit2: reread your 2nd post...

i know you posted while i was writing the above ramblings, but certification is different than being BFR imprinted. you have to cert the BFR after you are imprinted. if you are getting some screen that is saying you need to cert the BFR maybe you should try doing that.
protip - if you want to use a certain weapon or vehicle, you need to visit the certification term and click the weapons/rides you want to be able to use

What an interesting mix of helpful advice and scathing aggression. Thank you all the same, but a game, at least to me, isn't 8 years old if its still being charged for.
And as far as false advertising: "Devastate enemies with the all-new BattleFrame Robotics (BFRs). These heavily-armored mechanized robots feature multiple weapon systems for awesome firepower." straight off the adverts on direct-to-drive (which is the only place I could find to buy it)
I realize it doesn't say "log in and load up a BFR" but when they say the above, should I expect to never be able to cert myself for it? Or at least make it unreasonably difficult given the current population? I'm not throwing a tantrum or crying that I'll quit, I'm just dealing with the situation and trying to find out how to actually drive a BFR outside of VR with my situation.
No I'm not imprinted, I did try certifying - and no I'm still 0/ everything for cave kills.
Scared to ask but do cave battles still happen? Should I just write off the notion of piloting one (wet paper bag or not)

I just started playing again with the 30 days free thing. Yeah you're pretty much screwed. I remember when I got my BFR I lured TR into the caves with a few outfit mates so I could farm them over the course of a few DAYS. I must have hacked like 30 bases since it didn't count base hacks with like only a few people fighting. The 15 kills even a few years ago was very difficult since as mentioned BFRs die very easily.
Oddly enough I got the kills using the VS lasers. I was just using my BFR today. It's definitely something that's worth getting if you can find a way. Especially since you won't see them in the next game for some reason.

That's what I kind of thought - thanks for letting me know. I'll probably not bother if that's the case, sounds like a lost cause if the caves aren't active...

Yeah, the biggest problem I had with getting imprinted was getting the base caps with enough people for it to count, and that was a few years ago. You may have better luck now with the free 45 days for people increasing the pop. As for me, I don't like the caves, and I gunned in enough BFRs to know I wasn't a huge fan of them either. So now I just have more fun blowing them up with my reaver.
Good luck

IMO its way to much trouble for its reward. weve taken down some bfrs with just enforcers before (2 enforecers) and i gun in them all the time. i would never own one.
they are huge targets that will be the focus of fire, even if your not helping in the least. your a bulky, slow moving thing, and to be quite honest i often see them being out shined by the smaller units. i know that ancored TR punders seem to cause more of a problem then their bfr's and the vanu magrider is infinitly more fearsome
idk, when they first came out i was one of the ones who left, when i came back some years later, they never seemed to do enough in a fight to justify the cost of getting one.

BFR's are just a big slow target that get killed easily when mutliple aircraft and vehicles are shooting at it. Everyone pretty much stops what they are doing when they see a lone BFR and attack it.

Thanks for all the responses! I do like playing in the armour (I'm not the fastest player for sure, but pretty good aim!) so having a little extra stopping power is always nice. I guess I'll stick with MAX's for now, and if the opportunity arises to get imprinted I'll give the BFR a try (in certain situations only from what I'm seeing here).
See you all in game!

No point going for the BFR, using one will make you want to quit.

 We had all the empire vehicles today and I was owning some people with the TR machine guns. It's a lot of fun actually. I can also tell the people dropping on top of my BFR to kill me are having a lot of fun planning their attacks. You don't get that level of complex encounters with something like the NC tank which 1 hits anything that gets within 100 meters.

I like playing the BFR's in VR at least - and I've gunned in one a few times. I do get a few more kills than I usually do when in one, so it's a plus for me. You still can't run in solo and expect to survive of course as I do see a LOT of reavers go for you pretty fast when you're in it. Its still fun however.
I just started playing again with the 30 days free thing.
Hey, it's a 45 days free "thing", not a 30 days free "thing". I won't tolerate this sort of misinformation on these forums.
