Well as most of my Dragonwolf brethren and sisters know, I've been vacationing in Italy for the past eight days. An absolutely beautiful country that is in flux. While trying to acclimate itself to the new world, this country is still steeped in tradition. From home made pasta that was started at 4am to a two hour mass celebrating a first communion, Italy stubbornly holds it's values in high regard. For example, they recently closed down a McDonalds not to far from here because the town felt that their children were being unduly influenced.
Another thing is the Internet here. Don't expect WiFi hotspots at any corner cafe. The only reason I'm posting here now is that my sister-in-law has a WiFi router here.
Attached is a few pictures from my time here. If you are a friend of mine on Facebook you've seen my album. I will be making a Flikr account when I get back home and upload them all.
First picture is of my brother-in-laws 300yr old olive tree. He is an olive grower and is a 'middle man' for the local cherry farms in the area. He buys the cherries from them and then sells them to companies like Ferero Roche for their candies.
The next picture is old school home security. Farmers would rig a shotgun to go off through the door should anyone try to get in.
Next picture is of Pompeii with Mt. Vesuvius in the background. Imagine waking up to see that mountain blow it's top, the ashes falling all around you and knowing there was no way to escape. Sends chills down my spine thinking of it.
I've got more pics but I have to wait til I get home to get the pics of Capri from my wife. I'm expected home Saturday evening barring any other volcanos blowing up that is.
