View Full Version : And now they're back too

After two very pleasant weeks reminding my I loved playing this game before, I'm seeing again the return of the cheaters that were the final straw as to why I left.
We've done /reports. But I doubt anything happens.
Part of what gets me most is ( IME, of course, I'm sure there are as many stories from other faction ) is they seem to almost ALWAYS be TR and always running around in groups. It's been the full gamut. Wall cheats, COF, teleporting, instant reloads.
We saw a reaver tonight roll through the entire inventory of missles in a continuous barrage. Whee.
And no, not sour grapes. I know I suck. I also know exactly how much I suck and how much the people I play with do. :)

I've been back 2 months now and the worse I've seen so far is 2 teleporters in BFRs and they've had all three Empires come down on them.
If there's been an upsurge in it, it's probably due to SOE giving all accounts a free month over the hack incident. It'll blow over in a week or two when the freebie runs out.

I'm *Really* hoping so.

It's just unfortunate that there isn't any trial periods for the people I'm trying to bring into the game. I rediscovered the game with my 45 day free trial period and it looks I'll be subscribing again once that runs out. I know the trials brought all the hackers, but it'll be difficult to bring any new blood into the game until Planetside 2 comes out.

I saw an NC in a tower sitting inside a wall and shooting. He had killed someone recently, so I had a feeling some wallhacks were involved.

/Report does nothing, don't ever bother using it. (It records the chat log of the reported player for "X" minutes but that's it).
/Appeal is what you want to use.
Better yet make a recording of the person cheating using a program like x-fire or fraps. Of course is going to to be applicable to hacks that have a visual/obvious effect that can be seen (such as dual-coring/No reload/teleport)

I say bill a hacker 500 bucks. But, better yet, hit the hack sellers with billion-dollar lawsuits.
There. Hack THAT.

even when you slow it down to 25% I can barely see the reload animation..
I don't know how you notice that in real time game scenarios.
Good work, although it may be for naught...at least the names are out there.

You just have to be paying attention, every weapon has a reload animation (excluding vehicles, maxs, decimator), so you just have to look for the little movements that the weapon's barrel makes, and hand motions. If you're not paying attention you could mistake it for someone using a macro though.
Another thing to look for is muzzle flash, while firing in the middle of a reload, here will not be any sort of muzzle flash, you'll just see ammunition firing (and with a JH/sweeper you wouldn't see anything).
I don't expect SOE to do anything with this stuff, I specifically record and put these names out FOR the community, regardless of whether my efforts are appreciated or not. I try to help show differences in exploiting (bugs in the game) and hacking/cheating (3rd party programs). I encourage people to make recordings as well, though not many have :( .

Thats much more fancy than my method of counting shots and not having a few second silence while they reload lol. For that reason obviously I really only notice JH, Sweeper, SA, and occasionally lashers

Some VS were hacking on Cyssor lastnight. The aja LLU was just over the first bridge when it suddenly appeared at chuku. Also, the same people took nzame llu to honsi pretty fast. they were in a thresher and i could not keep up with them even while afterburning in a mossy. Timmeh2 was on of the names.

This.
Also make sure that your email address on your account is up-to-date and doesn't send SOE mails into the spam bin. I think they email you the ticket number so you can view the progress. I could be wrong, I haven't appealed anything in years.
I don't know about SOE, but I know that EA's servers constantly track data. Hack logs can be pulled, and that usually shows anomalies such as warping, speed-hacking, etc. But I'm wagering that they don't actively police it. Games are policed by the players, through the Appeals system. At least, presuming SOE is like every other company. Nobody has time to sit there and read chat or move around the continents all damned day and night. It takes a little bit of work on the part of the players witnessing said actions to get off their lazy asses and do something about it instead of presuming that A) someone up there is watching or B) someone else is going to do it.

Does /Appeal even do anything anymore though? I mean, is SOE really putting enough resources towards supporting the current game to deal with these cheaters?
I'm not being combative, I'm genuinely curious. I kinda figured SOE was giving Planetside just enough money to keep the servers up.

I don't honestly know. Online games usually have some sort of online in-game support. Cheaters are bad for business, even when that business is miniscule. I think SOE's CSRs are multi-game: supporting all of the games. When I worked CS, I supported four different games at one time.

Ah, ok. That would make alot more sense. It's hard for me to imagine Sony having much expense cost in Planetside right now, but I didn't think about CSR's working on multiple games. Shows you how much I know about the industry lol

When I recorded FreeSample radar hacking, I appealed and waited for 1 whole week before posting that video publicly. He didn't get banned or suspended, and he was radar hacking the whole time. In fact, they actually allowed him to rename his character (which is now Billbates40)

Aye, I stopped playing because of the hackers too. Its really easy to tell when you square off with an MCG and you have an MCG, you are dead before you get 10 bullets out and he hasn't missed once, him on the other hand.... hes got more than half health / armor.

My outfit has apparently taken to the strategy of mass-appealling the obvious cheaters they see at the end of the night. It appears to be working.
