View Full Version : MCG is godly?

I am not going to say anything blatant about weapon balance, I have just had an experience and am wondering why I cant seem to find any posts about it, it seems to not get mentioned.
My friends and I are enjoying the 45 free days. After they all switched from Vanu to TR that is. They all unanomously decided to quit Vanu due the MCG being absoloutely dominant. This was not a situation where one person decided to leave and they all followed, literally every one of them decided the lasher was a peice of crap and the MCG all ninja samurai instawin and crazy good.
I do see a lot of old names playing TR now, it seems like TR is where its at. I am getting my ass kicked all over the place by everyone, but I am feeling a particularly large amount of swagger and momentum from the TR. Is this an isolated incident? Does anyone else think this is true or just my friends?

The hell it is. I keep getting smoked by Jackhammers.

It's not, the only advantage it has it's range, it's otherwise weaker in the category that HA is meant for, damage. It has the slowest TTK of any HA in the entire game. Sweeper actually kills faster then MCG on agile TTK with medkits
I regularly beat MCG users with a gauss rifle/pulsar.

While I can kill a MCG user with a punisher I often find it difficult or a tie at anything other than close range since my grenade reaches them after I die.
I will agree though that the MCG might be a little more powerful. My friend switched to TR because (from what I can tell trying to kill him yesterday) he finds it an easier weapon to use when bailing from his mossy/reaver. I imagine this is a general trend for most of the more expert players.

I was replying to the subject line, but I neglected to say I play TR, sorry.
My point is that the MCG isn't godly at all. At long range it's useless because of it's wide cone of fire, and in a corridor fight against NC I always get wiped out by Jackhammers before I can spray them with enough bullets, even with the MCG being as fast as it is. I'm started to get more kills with the Suppressor because of its accuracy.
It's funny, in my TR outfit, whenever we've had access to the vehicles of other empires we used those rather than ours. Vanguards and Magriders over Prowlers, and such.
In fact I'm starting to feel like NC has the best stuff. :)

This sounds just like a grass is greener on the otherside, it depends on the skill of the player I beat JH and Lashers at close and medium range and they beat me, I don't think the MCG is "GODLY".
Your friends were Vanu that have now gone TR so there's a nice new shiny Empire full of different toys to play with, the shine will dull in time.

Being a veteran of the game I understand the grass is greener, infact that's exactly what I told my friends repeatedly. Well now I can play with them on TR or play by myself on Vanu.

So true. His words are identical to a buddy of mine who went from TR to Vanu.
I rolled a TR to BR23 CR5 and now play Vanu. My last (clear) memory is me killing two guys with chainguns in a tower last night with my pulsar. Yes, I've heard from a lot of people that the Lasher isn't what it used to be, but that doesn't necessarily mean the MCG is the be-all-end-all weapon.

Much depends on whose hands it's in. I've had guys with an MCG out gun me at long range in the field when I was using a Gauss. They wern't hacking, but just had good timing keeping the COF down and good accuracy. On the flip side, I've taken out guys with MCGs at close range in a tower when I was using a Gauss because they were noobs I guess.
It's certainly a cool gun, but like every other weapon and vehicle in the game, it has its pros and cons. Right now, I don't think I'd trade it for my JH if you paid me.

As a VS the Lasher is junk; its inaccurate enough to be useless at mid range, especially with the lash itself being reduced to something like 3 damage; just enough to register as a hit but certainly not enough to do anything more than tickle.
At close range it is ok; but I prefer the Pulsar as its more versatile due to its range.
The MCG seems to cut swathes through the VS as its more usable at mid range, and certainly dominant at close range over us due to the 10 shots without bloom... and only 11 needed to kill I believe.
The JH of course is a monster up close, especially when its users are cowardly third person corner humpers.
Saying all this though and I wasted a handful of MCG bailures last night with my Pulsar, but I did have to use Personal Shield and rely on Rexo armour to stay alive.

As a die-hard Terran Republic player, I would not have ever minded your Lasher *IF* it had lashed friendlies. The only way we could ever get the Lasher to lash Vanu was to use it against you.

I dunno if it's the bolt or the lash but I frequently get toasted by friendly fire from the Lasher. And still get magmowed. Wacky that.

I think that may be down to you rather than the weapons :p

I'd love to blame all of it on my inadequacies as a shooter player, but as this generally happens in a max crash, it's more dumbasses who won't clear the road for the meatshields.

shoot a lasher at the floor of a crowded area and tell me how much damage/grief you get....the lash doesnt effect friendlies
you have asshats shooting you in the back

To be fair the orbs travel slow enough so that players can jump in front of them. Might be odd if the lash hit friendlies. Not sure how far out it reaches.

Sirisian - Firefly was talking about the prenerf lasher - i agree it didn't need a nerf specifically - but it needed to have some friendly splash damage. in its current state i see no need for it

The original Lasher did lash friendlies. But SOE didn't want to go through the trouble to figure out how to not get it to kill the person using it, so they ner...buffed it.
