I listened to the little bit of the previous SOE Podcast (20 year old girls talking about Starbucks, I shit you not) where they previewed what they would talk about at E3, and it wasn't encouraging for Planetside Fans. It's all going to be about Everquest and its different permutations. They said they'd kind of chat with people working the booth, (like Brasse and Smokejumper) and thats it.

Don't get your hopes up for any Planetside information at all from this webcast.

I've never felt that when playing Battlefield. The objectives and fighting are just different. I'm not sure you can directly compare an FPS with an MMOFPS. (Not that people won't try).

BF games usually hit the same number; you may get the odd server that's 64 but most of the maps are made around the 32 player number and as for COD:MW... talking to some of my students today who have grown up with pathetic 16 player games, they were amazed that there were games bigger than it.

I see what you are saying in that bigger marquee names at E3 can tend to steal the thunder, however there's no avoiding that. This isn't the Battlefield 3 vs. MW3 Expo. This is E3. There are dozens and dozens of game titles being advertised there, so obviously people whose job it is to actually market games think making announcements from something other than BF or COD is still a good idea.

In fact, it could be argued that E3 is the best time for a smaller title to make an announcement (like we've already seen from just about every developer in the business) because you have all the gaming press in the world focused on this 1 spot all week long.

I'm glad you are so excited for BF3, it looks like a great game, but it's not some massive black hole that will suck in the energy from any other game at E3.

Yes .. why would they announce Planetside on the E3, when they could instead announce it on the awesome SOE Fanfaire to all the Everquest players?! The funny thing is, that's probably what is going to happen. But don't expect much beyond "We are working on this game now".

They[SOE] didn't announce anything because they have virtually nothing to announce yet. The original PlanetSide was shown at E3 prior to its release back in 2002(people were able to actually play the game at the booth) so there is no reason why it won't be shown again. Consoles are obviously a major attraction because they hold the majority of the market share but there is still a thriving online population.

I think the problem is people are being naive and hopeful because of an ambiguous remark made some time ago that left a lot of people thinking the game would be released in March, or even this year.

The fact is, PS2 was not shown at E3 show so you can bet the game won't be released any time before the year is up. My prediction, however, is 2013 with a best case scenario being next May or June(after E3).

No, it wasn't some ambiguous remark. We were hopeful because of a very specific promise from the Executive Producer of PS2 that stated back in April, "a lot more detail will be released in the coming weeks and months." Thats not ambiguous at all. It's been over 8 weeks since that statement, and we've heard nothing other than "we are working hard". Also, Smed stated clearly that they were releasing the game "later THIS year". These are not ambiguous statements.

Well that's just it. We can pretty much guess they don't have anything to show. Or they would have. Those pics we got were basically photoshops of some early models. The game is probably a year or more off.

Well its true that all the sudden everyone seems to be rumored to making an MMOFPS. The Bungie guys that did Halo are said to be making one. Blizzard is said to be making one. There is a Tribes MMO in development.

So yeah maybe SOE realized they wont be the only one an will need to seriously step up their game to have a chance.

Now I have no clue regarding the size or the amount media coverage Fan Faire usually gets. One have to consider that BlizzCon is an entire full-scale event. Media coverage like nothing else, hundreds and hundreds of fans and fansite staff.

Again, I have no clue about FF. All I know is that most of the people here are very skeptic, it seems to usually be a lot about EQ and such. But, we'll see. Though I'm not holding any thumbs at least.

"(and the tiny shred of hope I'm clinging to)" aside, SOE's fanbase doesn't really consist of a lot of Planetside players. It's mostly fat-ass neckbeards that play Everquest. SOE ran off most of the solid Planetside fans with their goddamn stupidity and abusive maltreatment of our game.

Actually, looking back SOE has always done their major game announcements at Fan Faire (Since it became more than just EQ Fan Faire anyhow), I don't see why PS:N / PS:2 would be any different.

Case in point: Free Realms, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, The Agency, DC Universe Online...

Well. I could always be surprised, but for the last 4-5 years they haven't even talked about Planetside. The last Fan Faire that I recall having anything PS-related was in 2006. A max of maybe ten people showed up, thirteen if you count the devs. So when I say LMFAO in bold-max-size font, I really mean that. I honestly don't think more than maybe a dozen would show, and I think most of them would be there for Everquest. That's if SOE even has a damned event for PS2, let alone Planetside.

SOE is probably hedging right now in the light of the embarrassment that is still steaming in the toilet. Coming to E3 with big plans would probably have made negative press and a whole lot of silence about how they will fix the problem.

Dust 514 didn't exactly make a big show at E3, but CCP is probably not exactly anxious to take hits for interfacing their single shard game universe directly into PSN.

This - it's certainly not an MMOFPS and it wasn't billed as one by CCP as far as I know. It's distinguishing point is it interacts with an existing MMO in a unique way.

As cool as some of the trailers seem at first, EVE was flat out awful. Its an economy sim with spaceships pasted on top. Very slow, very automated, very boring. Doesnt give me much hope for Dust, esp after seeing its "free to play", which as we all know is a total lie and usually is pay to win.
