There are many who muted the music in Planetside but for me it took a good couple of years for me to eventually get sick of the music. Even then I generally replaced it with my own or turned it back on for fights; the music gave a really good feeling with empire specific music that held the spirit of each faction.

I'd like to see music have a lot of effort put into it in PS2, obviously I don't expect them to go and get Hans Zimmer to make them a movie score but I'd like to see each Empires music get increased character and to really use 3 different music styles to go with the increased diversity of the 3 Empires in the sequel.

If I had to suggest themes I would have something Military-Industrial for the Terran Republic, something like the Soviet National anthem - powerful music with a lot of choir and authoritarian feel. Either that or some Taiko drums, tracks like this one from Shogun 2 would be excellent for battling in an open area
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzibdB62thI&feature=related

Other good music would be something similar to Bear McReary's Battlestar Galactica soundtrack, it's pretty powerful and militaristic - it does portray a fallen empire (humanity) struggling against the Cylons after all
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlcUwUwjLrs

As for the New Conglomerate I would go out on a whim and give them music with Middle-Eastern themes since they see themselves as freedom fighters combating against oppression, although this may not be the same as the situation in the Middle East people still correlate the Middle-Eastern music with insurgents and other 'freedom'-fighters/terrorists which is basically what the NC are, something like the GLA Soundtracks from C&C Generals would be awesome for the NC

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkvG6rF63EI

The VS are slightly harder given their technocracy and alien tech, I don't know what music would fit these, the only music I could think of would be the Protoss soundtrack which really gives the feeling of an ancient, technological species which matches the VS's roots in the Vanu ancients.

I love the C&C generals one.

I'd like to hear tribal/ethnic drums and percussion with electronic everything else. Atmospheric rather than something rock or grandiose (though obviously you'd need something with a fair pace during battle)

Also if you have played Emproer battle for Dune or whatever it was called, the Harkkonen music music fits the TR so perfectly (imo, like a rock version of the SOI music).

Ill see if any is on youtube.

i remember usin the trick to replace the in game music files everytime I loaded up PS. Doin it that way your music would be triggered by the same events as the in game music. Aka what zone you were in, if it was an enemy soi, etc.

I had alot of the LotR soundtrack which worked well. Those themes playin as i ran around the jungle areas of searhus were very cool and really enhanced the epic feel, especially as the music changed to the Mount Doom themes when i got into the crater. Pure win!

Music can add a hell of a lot of atmosphere and emotion to a game, watch say 'The Thing' or 'The Shining' without their soundtracks and they lose a massive amount of the tension and atmosphere. Obviously gameplay is vital but music is good too.

I was under the impression almost no one listened to the PS ingame music.

Then they need to do a better job this time.

Music is a huge part of the atmosphere of a game. It can really do a lot to make it feel epic if done right. Imagine rewatching the LotR movies but having no music. Totally kills it. Music is key in games, needs to be done right and also needs to be presented by the game right by making the things that que up or change music be dependant on whats goin on. Just overlaying a constant stream isnt that special but if it changes depending on where you are, and whats goin on then it can really add an epic feel.

That is wonderful. No more Barney shit. Here they come with a new face!

I totally agree with this association. It believe it works wonderfully though some musician may know better. I agree because I see Vanu Sovereignty as an immediate evolutionary entity with the understanding that this future (in PlanetSide) has no religion. It is true that the idea of God is part of our nature, and that's what intrigues me for the idea of Vanu Sovereignty: faith in evolution. Though I don't know what the woman says in this tune, it strikes me as highly religious-like, and so fittingly works with me for the VS.

I'd agree that everything before the drop is great, but you need to be careful.

Dubstep is somewhat of a fad at the moment, and not just any fad, but an "oh my god this stuff is goddamn everywhere!" kind of fad. Not only can I see people having a "lol dubstep" attitude in a few years, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people end up simply hating the dubstep-style bass after a while.

You're never going to see dubstep in planetside because modern music goes in and out of fashion, eventually becoming dated. Even though classic and ambient music isnt everyones thing, it stands the test of time and will always give it the feel of a hollywood epic.

Musics a funny thing because its so overlooked, but ps had a real unique tone that immersed people into the world and still remains incredibly nostalgic. I'd be worried about them doing a shit job for this game. You dont get fantastic games that have bad audio.

I really liked PS's original music. Re-mix that music again, keep some of it. NC sanctuary music was the best, seemed to capture the essence of the NC.

I was happy to hear similarity to the classic PS music in the trailer. I would just love it if they polished up the old PS music, remixed it a bit and kept it along the same themes. That was great music.

Modernize the NC sanctuary music, remix it and just give that right back to me.

I like Planetside's music a lot. All it needed was a little more variety. All the zone types had the same music. Temperate maps for example like Cyssor, Forseral, Extinction. I just hope in Planetside 2 they don't feel the need to go overboard with rock/metal/trance/techno.

I think the Planetside 2 dev team can get lots of inspiration for ingame music from the guys that have been doing in-game themed music for over 40 years; the NFL.

For example:

I have the Autumn Thunder soundtrack, but I can't remember any other songs on there that have the same amount of punch this one has. I've used a couple in some old school videos for the Dragonwolves I've done in the past.

Regardless the music being developed, why limit players to their empire imposed selection? Music is already being composed for all 3 empires, so in every situation there exists 3 different options. Simply allow players to select their own music for each situation (in other words, do not make the music empire specific but a choice from 3 different styles). End result, minimal programing beyond what is planned and a huge appreciation for the choices by those of us to are into Planetside immersion.

It'd be nice if the music intensified depending on the size of the fight you're in. Kind of like how in Skyrim, the combat music is more intense according to the difficulty of the fight - the level of what you're fighting, how many of them there are, ect.

I was waiting for someone to bring up the BF3 theme and Clubroot.

I think one of the biggest points that anyone observing this thread can take away is that EA takes game music seriously, and gamers notice that.

That said, I am of the school that the PS1's music is nice and very good. However, what with each empire being more unique this time 'round, it only makes sense that the music is also much more distinct.

But in reality, I expect there to be some amount of music included with it, but you will probably be able to include your own stuff into the playlist a la EVE Online style.

EDIT: Also, for some reason, this feels to me like it's more appropriate for some sort of space-themed porn film than PS2:

I dunno about most people, but I know a guy I've worked with before who's done music for tv/movie/game trailers, as well as short films:

Who says it has to be something that alaready exists; why can't it be a brand new take on the old music?

I would love to see something like this for VS music. Epic Score - They Hit Without Warning (Edward Bradshaw - Epic Action & Adventure Vol.11) - YouTube

As it is, I'm a huge EDM fan, but I find the VS music just incredibly boring.

Are there people who haven't heard the placeholder soundtrack for PS2 yet...?

Are there people who haven't heard the placeholder soundtrack for PS2 yet...?

I was getting that impression too.

Though last time when I tried posting a thread about it, it saw practically no support, so it's no surprise if people haven't either.

This forum would rather bitch about $#!% they don't really understand than actually bump anything worth keeping in plain view for the new comers.

Search is fail-****ing-tastic too.
