View Full Version : What do you think will be in the 3 year plan?

Sure we don't know what will be in the game yet, but they have given us some clues as to what may be in this plan.
As such I imagine we may see:
Deployable structures
Space combat
Naval combat
Thoughts?
Whatever that plan has in it, I hope they keep from spreading combat too thin effectively removing that feeling of a massive battle.
What I hope to see:
Deployable Structures as well
Outfit Bases that are more than just one facility, something akin to a small town
More Social Features, MMOs in general need to provide better social interation
Those talked about Sandbox features which are more than simply related to combat
I'd like to add more honestly but without knowing the plan it's hard to know what's already planned for release and for future updates.

Indeed, I hope they don't spread the system too thinly. The adding of more sandbox content is very likely, and they even mentioned it at one point i'm sure. While I do like the idea of them showing us what they have planned, I can't help but feel that it spoils the surprise. Then again its something to look forward to, and community feedback is important to them.
So perhaps the content that we expect at the moment may change as people see it and go "Cool!", or "The hell is this?" So maybe the content will evolve around the community to an extent. Perhaps they will announce other things such as new weapons and vehicles, with some interestingly unique properties.
I loved the sandbox of SWG, being able to construct different facilities and even entire cities. While obviously no-one wants to build a city in Planetside, I like the idea of being able to customise the areas in order to achieve different affects.

More continents/islands
More planets
Outfit bases
naval combat
I think Naval Combat's really a no brainer, it's simply something no game since BF1942 has really implemented in a meaningful way and it was extremely fun in that game. Modeling and texturing a ship isn't really too much harder than making a tank and naval combat is relatively easy to balance since you generally don't have to take terrain into account, ships (aside from subs) all move across a relatively level, stable plane. They could have oil rig style resource platforms out there on the high seas to fight over.
Building your own outfit base would be excellent too, the more customization on it the better.
And more land, well that's a no brainer.

One thing I do not want is more continents. After 3 years the game will start losing population, hopefully not, but lets be realistic. All it will do is spread out the fights more. Now, if the pops arent decreasing, go for it. Add more conts.
More outfit interaction: Possibly a home base system like they did in city of villains or something similar. Where you could build a lair with your Infamy points and it would be a grouping and meeting place for the whole group(in planetside it would be outfit points but same idea).
Navel warefare would be interesting. So many facets of the game would need to be redesigned though it may not be worth it. IE: base placements for the deployment of the boats.
Deployable structures: Iffy about this one, I would need to hear the ideas and see how they effect gameplay before I say I want them or not.
My thoughts on space combat are this: they already said they would have an area that was primarily air-air only because of the rough terrain. What is the point of space combat?

They had sea combat in PS1, it was called the deliverer and it's variants. I was in an emerald outfit by the name of KDL (Koreans Diligently Learning). Whenever a battle on cyssor would occur we would always try and roll deli's on the rivers, it was ridiculously fun. I'm not talking 1-2 deli's im talking 8-10 all in a row all full of KDL (Kinky Dutch Lesbians) only. One disadvantage KDL (kangaroo death legion) experienced with this was that VS had mags and we had nothing like it. That said, the should keep the PS1 deli/deli variants, and add a common pool amphibious/hover tank and buggy (if they bring back the thresher). The common pool tank/buggy can be weaker than the VS variants since its their thing, but at least TR and NC will be able to fight on a somewhat even basis.
My other hope for the 3 year is a 0.0 area where your sole allegiance is to your outfit, or squad. They could make it such that resource areas gained in lawless land only benefited the outfit that controlled them. Would make for a very interesting dynamic since there would be no zerglings to get in the way.
Additionally, randomly generated missions to control a point on the lawless map for x amount of time could give squads that are not in an outfit, or are in an outfit too small to compete in lawless for bases, the ability to experience a small quantity resource boost for a defined period of time.
This lawless area would be very smart for SOE to add down the line since it would give veterans an area to fight one another, thus giving joe newbie a chance to fight others with less skill. Furthermore i dont think this would overshadow the regular area, since A. it would be much smaller and possibly population controlled, and B. middle to lower grade players wouldnt want to get their asses handed to them all the time. Eve has had great success with this and so can PS2 in my opinion. Whats yours?
A lawless area doesn't make any sense in Planetside. The game is about war, not small death matches.

you miss the point bags, im guessing you have not played eve before. It would be an entire continent, but as soon as you got on cont, your only allies would be your outfit or squad. Territory could be taken and bases would be outfit controlled. So how does that not make sense, how is that not war, and how do you call that small?

Because this is a game that features three factions at war.

Have you just compared a game with almost limitless space to a game that features only 10 continents?

definitely not limitless. the size of the area is not as important as the fact that they have boundaries. As long as boundaries exist combat exists.

Yes, I took part in the outfit competition. Those were one time competition.

So what was wrong with that? that shit is fun and it creates a great outlet for vet players to compete inside and outside of their faction. Right now all im feeling from you is "haters gonna hate".
Because it was a one time thing; it didn't become the norm, a continent wasn't converted into it.
This game is a war between three factions, not a bunch of in-fighting.
