View Full Version : What will your primary role be in PS2? (choose 1-2))

Choose 1-2 only. If you are not planning in certing at least a 2:1 ratio of the two you choose, please only select the primary one even though you can vote for multiple.
I believe this will give a better representation of of the community without getting bogged down into tertiary roles.

We dont even know if Commanding will be a own class and what else is part of the class, or if it is part of every class.
Stop making useless threats already guys! :P

I remember Higby saying somewhere that Commanding will be a skill learned along side everything else and not along side Battle Rank.
I'll mostly be a grunt, but if medics are 100% necessary I'm sure I'll be putting some points into it.

I still believe you spend your certifications, like everything else, to unlock/upgrade things though.

The point is, presumably, from what we've been told, you train command like any other skill tree, and then spend up to your BR. The point being, there's no CEP or CR to have to lead squads to earn.
The limiting factor on commanders will be demand/opportunity to lead squads.
If the ratio of commanders to commanded is too high, people will stop spending time training the commander skill tree because they're not getting a chance to use it, and don't have the certs to shine in the things they're ending up doing instead, like infantry grunting or driving vehicles.
If the ratio of commanders to commanded is too low, people will get sick of being stuck leading a squad without good command tools (like issuing missions, presumably) to really provide their squads with the right tools, and will start training up the commander skill tree.

Command should be reserved for those who truly want it. It should be the hardest of all the roles to master by far.

Voted for Fighter Pilot and Medic. However i think i will add skillpoints in most of the classes. I am not an expert in a particular class then, but in that way i can adept to many situations.

Infantry and fighter pilot if I had to choose two roles.
Commanding is fun and all, but I don't think I'm quite creative or charismatic for that job.

Well, it's a role you can't just learn with in-game certs. Leadership requires a certain kind of personality and mindset. No matter how hard you would cert for it, if you really arnt the right person, you just arnt.

From the way it's described, command training will provide tools to support someone with the chops to command. Without the training or, at least, inherent skill, the skill-up time spent will probably do less for you than any other tree.
At the moment I am leaning towards infantry, tank, and engineer. My favorite part of PS was driving a Vanguard killing everything in site and running over softies. Depending on how much engineer helps towards helping me with my tank I may consider specializing in that tree a certain extent. Though I still want to be good in doors and not be left behind compared to others who are specializing in infantry. I probably will not worry that much about infantry if I can get the basics of the tree and still kick ass. Thats why I want to hear more about all this and get into beta whenever it comes.

Infantry and tank driver maybe pilot later on. if medics have more importance in PS2 then definitely a medic we will see.

I know what leadership is. Every time I logged into PS, I used my CR5 for good if I could.

Let's hope the people who lack that leadership will get bored of trying to lead people if they have little/no success.
It's quite easy to tell who's a decent leader and who isn't, even if you arn't all that familar with the game. I have certain people on the NC side I listen alot more than certain other individuals :D
On another note, the mission system might mean that actual leading/leadership takes a hit.

Sadly you left out atv scouting. Also you left out anti vehicle infantry, which is different in so many ways.

Infantry!
Give me my JH, some form of AV for Maxes, a Bank, some med kits, and a tower. Also in one of the vids Smed pointed out that the tower had landing struts I think he called them. So now I don't have to goto your tower, MY tower comes to you!

Probably what I enjoy the most doing in PS
Tank driving and troop transports. I also occasionally enjoy doing some AA also preferably in a MAX suit. :)

Right now I'm pretty much a medium ranged support character. advmed, repairs, MA, CR4(almost), Ground transport, Air transport, atv, normal hacking.
And I like gunning.

Max unit with AA. And tank driver for secondary. Used to love the TR AA max in PS was my favorite role also like the NC AA was not to fond of the VS as it was to easy haha. And I am pretty much the best vanguard driver there used to be.

Having to pick two only... you're being mean, OP. But I'll bite. Infantry/Medic is how I played PS1 during my galaxy drop team days, and that was some of the most awesome FPS game play ever, so I figure that will be my day 1 job when PS2 comes out. In most FPSes I generally get the most amounts of shit done when I have a healing kit and a good assault rifle in my hands, and 'assault' from BF2142 was my all time favorite infantry combat setup.
That said, being able to go sniper on the side would be nice, depending how the outdoor meta game pans out. If PS2 is all vehicles/air cav out doors, all the time like Planetside 1, I'll pass on the sniping, thanks.

Engineer, if that means being a tank buster like in BFBC2. Otherwise, Medic. In both cases, I will make sure I have as much hacking as possible (as I'm sure there won't be a Hacker class).

Im really looking forward to making a Paratrooper Outfit within PS2. I just think the possibilities would be pretty amazing especially with cooperation/coordination with other outfits to take a secondary and primary target.
Infiltration/Infantry. I always loved getting behind you elmos and smurfs and sticking a clip of pulsar into your backs. :p
