Now this might have worked much better in PS1 than PS2 but we still don't know how the skill system and classes coincide so its still open on how it works and how this idea would effect it.
The jist of this is, having skills that would go together as for example, Tank Driver and Engineer. That makes sense, repair your vehicle and all that good stuff. Now with those, they synergize with each other boosting their effects.
So someone with Pilot and Engineer skills will receive a boost or benefit to those, but someone with heavy weapons and engineer, they do not synergize thus they will not benefit or boost each other.
Now this boost can be a variety of effects from small passive to strong much desired things. The problem though is we don't know how the class system works. This synergy alone makes an unofficial class system in which some people may be confused about until reading exactly what boosts what. It would be like certain builds you would need to go and only benefits that build.
The basic concept I like of skills synergizing with each other and can be tweaked to say there is some benefit with heavy weapons and engineer. Just different than pilot and engineer. But until we see more I can't quite say if this concept idea would even apply to PS2
