I started my attempt to listen to the audio.... not gonna happen, I'll read thank you. The opening "Music" drove me insane after 10 seconds of the singing

Nothing we really haven't heard before.
"Pside 2 wil b comin out but idk when xDDD"
Basic impression I'm getting from the devs in regards to the beta. Even an estimate, it could be completely made up and not at all accurate, I still think that would appease most of the community.

TL/DR: On Planetside Beta.. it’ll be up sooner than people think, but I cant give a date yet.. we’re hard at work on it right now

I would be happy with that, you would be happy with that. However, you know damn well that everyone else will scream from the rooftops about how they've lied to us and it's vapourware, etc. There is no point them giving us a date if they don't think they can make it.

There was quite a lot of people mad at SOE for cluing everyone into thinking something was happening with PS2 around March. Be it a release or closed beta. SOE is just better off saying nothing in my opinion due to that. The whens its ready is really the best way to do development for games.

Yeah, I wouldn't say anything about it being playable until people will be playing it in a week. If you even make an announcement before sending beta/alpha emails out.
But in the meantime, keep the tricking about the gameplay and stuff going.

at least from what i've gathered, a lot of people think beta will be here by the end of the year.
so, definitely sooner than the end of the year...?

ya know.. and now im officially drunk....... its responses like this that eat my asshole alive with flesh eating bacteria.......
if they WANTED last minute subs.... for WHATEVER REASON... they would show a ton more footage that is not yet complete, increase the hype 100%... spend 3500 dollars on a TV spot at 6pm nationally on NBC and get 15 thousand people easily.... prolonging it 3 months being equal to 15 x 15 x 3 equalling nearly 700 thousand dollars......
If they wanted to fuck you, they could.... they havent..... relax.
I like how though the entire post it read rage, then you get all the way down to the vary end "they could..... they haven't.... Relax.." sound like at this point you was counting down in your head to claim down.... but i tease as for what you said.
regarding the subscribtions theres still 26 days left on my free 45days, and Ill resub when theres 1day left. but i was thinking they don't want to announce anything till the 45 free days are up.

All things considered, 1-2 months is "soon" in dev cycles. I'm guessing it's more the 3-5 month version of "soon".
About the ealease of Beta and the release of the game I reacted to one thing Smedeley said at the Q&A at the fanfaire. he talked about BF3 and said that he would take a week off and play BF3 and the go back to playing planetside 2. OK so he is the CEO so he could have acess to the game, but why would he play a MMOFPS all by him self? my guess is that there will be atleast a beta before BF3 is arriving which is in late october! which sertanly is earlier than ppl think

Iam thinking this 45 free day trial is to get active accounts for PS2. They need people who know PS1 to play the game. Id expect beta near the end of this 45 day pass with PS1. You see the screen shots thats game play right there. The game itself has to be some what playable and stable right now. Id expect beta to start soon, but why is everyone rushing SOE? Id rather them take their time and have a very polished game and not rush it then we get another PS1.

Thats a good point actually.
Give everyone a chance to sit back down with PS1 again so its fresh in their minds, so they know what they want changed etc.

BUT
I do know Smed said that PS1 active accounts are guaranteed a beta invite, soooooo keep those accounts going. I would also like to think from the trailer and the screen shots that the game is very playable and stable as it is actual gameplay. They may have a date in their minds when beta should start (very soon to them) but problems can always come up to delay this. Just know like Jesus, its coming.

"I'm subscribed but I has no BETA Invitez!" "LIES, SOES, LIES."
To be perfectly honest, the best people to beta this game played the game years ago. Ya know, when it was good? A lot of the people who play these days don't even speak English, what good do they really do?
Sovereign
2011-07-29, 11:50 AM
^ Right, so people who are not native english speakers cannot possibly contribute to a beta for an mmo that is reaching out to various people from across the globe. Such wisdom!
In regards to that statement, I don't see how you can pose the argument that it doesn't necessarily mean that those who have subscribed wont in fact receive one the key word here is that eventually they will.
You cant be so naive as to think that it can be taken out of context?! How else is one to interpret such a straight forward statement..?
I'm thinking that this all means that we'll see a soft-release by the end of this year i.e. beta will open and they will send out invites and then anyone who pre-orders also gets a beta invite. I would think that any current subscriber will get in beta eventually, if the game is designed to support thousands of players on a single continent, they will need to test with thousands of players on a single continent. It just makes sense that the game will have a huge beta playerbase.
While I wish we could get a timeframe (even a quarter), I'm more and more impressed by the devs and their dedication to the game and the fanbase. People complaining about them really need to shut up. It's not like they're whoring out marketing by just giving us tons of videos and screenshots. The fact that they are answering messages in text on a message board and on social media shows that.
I can't wait for the beta. Although I let my 45 free days run out, I have been hoping to be able to resub soon. Once I get a couple of big school and work related projects out of the way, I can go back to fragging the shit out of you guys :P

Do you guys know that Smed is a massive troll right? His desktop is probably trollface.
I remember the time when he personally decreed that Brigands would be made only slightly more useful than Swashbucklers. I mean seriously? Those posers? How dare he troll me with "percent chance to avoid AOE"!
I am just going to take Smed's news as good news. :D If the beta came out this year I will be happy, but I wont get overly hyped, so I am not to concern if it comes out later than we all thought. I do the same thing about my projects, always telling the customers it will be done soon, so I know how this works.
But the thing is this isn't news. He's said this before.

Soon:
Definition: In a short time; shortly after any time specified or supposed; as, soon after sunrise.
SOONer than you think. what is the exact consensus on what everyone thinks? I will do that math if you post the exact date.
mm/dd/yyyy
Naturally people will assume it won't be for at least a year maybe more, as is standard for most MMOs especially something that is potentially as complicated as Planetside.
However, in order for them to actually develop the game they need to have a large play testing base early on in the development of the game. With a game as vast as Planetside, it's not a case of setting up a 64 player server and having at it to find bugs; you need to have potentially several hundred people playing at the same time.
Someone already suggested that they're going to have a soft release; this makes the most sense for several reasons.
My guess is later this year for current Planetside subscribers BEFORE they made the announcement. This would stop the less dedicated people from simply jumping on the beta train.

Guys, I hate to play the defensive fanboy (and yea, im a fanboy)... but those guys are real world pouring their heart into it..... It's not like me and a simple trailer with some half assed to 3 quater assed remixing.... They are compounding an entirely new engine..... an entirely new concept to a once born game that did not receive the attention it deserved.... and trying to make it perfect....
They aren't pulling the 3d realms shit (duke nukem forever?) where the devs dont talk to you for LITERALLY years at a time.. and they are active on the forums..... the more we push, the more they feel pressured.... even subconciously..... Help them help us.... Lets push away from wanting more media and the game NOW NOW NOW .. and use our expeirence over the last 8 years to help provide better ideas and implement a game that wants to be played by millions .. not thousands....

I fully support SOE taking their time on PS2 or we will just get a rushed version of a game we think we want. Then we get it and your raging every where saying it is crap and they should of took more time. Id hate for another PS1 release. Back around Core Combat SOE had a bad rap. Smedley dont care about the games, SOE dont care about its subscribers, SOE is full of empty promises... If that were true it definitely doesnt stand true today. Be excited for the upcoming game it will be awesome that is for sure, but dont rush it or the only thing that is gonna be awesome is this built up perception you have in your head about PS2.

Agreed. I'd rather see SOE show up all the naysayers and put out a truely epic game. PS1 was in a way a cult classic. People STILL don't know about it. The real issue here is that PC gaming has taken a back seat. It used to be PC games were the tits magee of gaming. The consoles didn't come close, now we are in the world of "make it for PS3 Xbox, Wii, N64, Dreamcast, and NES... Then make siitty PC port". It used to be the otherway around. The good games were shitty ports to consoles.
One of the best announcements in gaming in a while (for me anyways) was that DICE was building BF3 for PC gamers first and consoles second. Its really too bad someone hasn't just marketed a "PC console" that had a mouse and keyboard, OS designed to run the games, and a modular design so you could upgrade it every few years. Sell the thing for 6-7 hundred and wipe the floor with the normal consoles. Perhapse microsoft will do that for the next-box.

You're supposed to say you want beta and you want it now while qualifying that you want release to be as far away as possible because it'd likely equate to a better game.

Because the development of good, so they want to do something more, in fact, a lot of games have been developed, they will come to the end of August to discuss with us the depth of the U.S. on-line program and China's localization. Please be patient, give us some time early next year, the United States at the line. We hope not too long China can also on-line.
The above quote is taken from Tony Parks blog (And obviously translated by Google :p). I believe it is in relation to PS2 as it was in response to the following:
hello, one would like to ask the "Star OL2" in the year when we can open the test?
Not really sure what it really means but thought it worth just putting here for anyone to read anyway. Try to make some sense of it if you like or just ignore it :p

Not sure if I am correct on this but that would probably be a bad idea for SOE to keep a game in beta for so long (not sure on the typical beta testing times for games) but you make it sound like it would be in beta longer than most games. In my mind that would just be too costly for SOE to keep a game going and not getting any money in return for a free year of service from all the players. That would just be money that could be spent to improve the quality of the game. I support taking their time and getting it right.

I think you took me more literally than intended.
I'm open to playing a buggy PS2 beta and I wouldn't hit the nearest forum and mudsling infractions of the NDA. That free year of service goes both ways, SOE gives access to what I hope is an amazing game, testers put up with bugs, character wipes, possible hardware failures (happens more in Alpha's) and having to keep a lid on the awesome they are experiencing.
Global Agenda closed beta went on for a solid 7 months, their participation numbers were very high because they limited playtesting to one weekend a month. Then they had a month of "open" beta for people who prepurchased.
Then they had two years of post-beta-beta after release :D
My point is that there is this idealized picture of the perfect beta tester that is not entirely true. Its not as selfless as some would have you believe. These are beta's people want to play, its not a job and the compensation (outside of the admittedly sweet perk of early access to a game you really want to play) is minimal.
