Since ps1 came out aaaages ago, I was starting to wonder if only 'older' gamers were interested in ps2 atm. Be interesting if this would also translate into the actual game, as I get the impression that a majority of older gamers dislike certain styles of fps - ie COD.

So just cause I'm curious, what is the average age of the people u know who will be playing ps2?

ooh be careful. Don't interpret people's hate for COD style gameplay on the forums to mean they hate COD. I might say I hate that style, but it's in regard to Planetside. In fact I loved COD 2 and think it's the best LAN game ever made. I just don't want that style in a game like Planetside which has its own unique system. (Which works). :)

But yeah all my friends are 22 and 23 years old.

If I'm 20 which category do I fall into?

Yea, your scale isn't quite right man... the same number shouldn't be in two categories.

That would be 20-25, which is the same for me all the fellows I know say one who may play so he doesn't count. :)

Good point, recommend an edit.

Shit that's what happens when u sneakily try and post whilst at work. I dunno if I can edit a poll, but pick whichever feels best. I imagine it'll still be 85% accurate. Interesting figures so far..

Stands to reason. PS is 8 years old, so fans of it are at least in the 20s for the most part, if not older. There has been almost no real advertisement, only one short not really gameplay trailer.

Pointless poll is pointless. The majority here will of course be 20-30. Expect to see a 15-20 boom at launch.

I was 14 when I first played the original Planetside along with about 4-5 of my close school friends of the same age, teaming up with our 40+ year old gal pilot back in the day, heh.

I can imagine seeing a lot of younger teenage players getting into Planetside 2 with the recent popularity of console shooters and MMOs, as long as I don't have to listen to any of the pre-pubescent rage I don't mind that one bit.

I only know my age from those who are going to play, and I was already in the third group when the first game hit :(

20-30 is a very broad range, but yes, it is what you expect for any video games. However the majority of people I met played PS in their mid 20's, making them over 30 when PS2 comes out.

I'm interested in getting a rough idea of what age group is seriously looking at playing this game when it's released, and also the age of people following it at the moment.

I too have wondered this and thought i'd go try find out for myself... I was shocked to find that pretty much most my friends (in real world) hadn't played PS1.... So i went on to ask around on Battlefield BC2 and other gaming related forums... it shocked me how many people hadn't played or even heard of planetside. I sell it to them all as it is truely a fantastic game and as one of the devs said it was truely ahead of its time and there's nothing else like it.

Every conversation more or less ending with it'll blow your socks off!

I think the way things are going this game will not be one of these over hyped games that turns out to be a let down but rather the opposite.

Back to the question though... I think that most of the original players of PS1 will be retained and back into the fight... admittedly around their personal lives and a new bigger fan base will be created with the new kids on the block... lets hope some of the xbox cod babies don't find out about this gem of a game!

I was 13 when I first picked up Planetside. Today's cod kiddie is tomorrow's embittered veteran ;)

I hate to say this, but by the time PS2 actually releases I'll be in the 30-35 age group since I turn 30 in March. I was 21 when I started playing PS, a brash young angry CR5 who enjoyed arguing with my own empire as much as fighting the enemy.

Now I'm a bit older, a bit wiser, a bit more level headed. I imagine I won't be spamming comall with "CHIMP IS THE PIMP" anywhere near as much as I used to. :D

Poll pretty much shows what I would expect. Younger demographic much less represented. If some players were in their teens when PS came out they'd be early 20's now. So this community is a shift of a generation or so from a normal distribution.

I was 23 when PS came out, eugh.

I just realized I used to play this game with a very old couple. They were like 70 years old. They must be gone now. Oh how the times have changed. Went by the name peaches n' cream.

Started playing PS1 on launch day when I was 20. Wow, sometimes it's hard to believe it's been eight years! I never regret a minute of PS1, and will be right here enjoying PS2 for years to come!

I was 16 when ps1 came out. Nearly failed every exam I took at school cause of it. Had to retake a couple the next year so make sure I got into uni. Hopefully my addiction to ps2 won't quite be so strong!

I can't make the average (ok, I could if I wanted), as the deviation is just too high. I know guys at the age around 18 and I hear voices on our teamspeak that sounds about the age of my grandpa.

But a significant part of my outfit-mates has his own children, and they are already playing the game sometimes (ie.: running around in PJ-s and watching the landscape or driving ground veichles just for fun).
