A lot of us are on several different gaming forums of all languages, activly taking part in discussions there. Now, i just figured that alot of people do know About planetside, but not everyone. And i even figured that quite a few of those who know about planetside dont know about planetside 2 yet. And damn, its time to change that. ;)

What i want from you guys?

Help me create a proper first post for those forums. It needs to contain as much information as possible in a short first paragraph, and even more detailed information in a longer second paragraph. Trailers and Screenshots also need to be there, not to mention of shiny images and stuff.

Below is my first version. Still WIP.

Then, we translate the stuff into several languages, and one of you posts it on the right forum at the right place, and also stays on that forum to talk with people or redirect them here. The important thing is to keep people informed and show that you have passion. Just dropping a thread and never return afterwards would be nothing else than a waste of time.

Title: Planetside 2

Planetside is a MMOFPS (Massive Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter) that was launched in 2003 and is featuring battles with up to 400 Players on the same map. There are no instances, no Bots, just action between players fufilling roles like Heavy Assault Infantary, Anti Vehicular Infantary, Sniper, Tank driver, Tank gunner, Assault Craft Pilot, Medic, etc. It never really gained the attention it needed from both the developers and the gaming community in general, but this is changing right now.

Featuring Battles of up to 1000 players split between 3 Factions on the same Continent. Just as before: No Instances, no Bots, just pure action between players.

Add pictures if they help you to explain it, but make sure that someone who never played an MMO before would understand it. Dont just say "like eve" and then leave it there, someone who never played Eve wouldnt understand at all. On top of that, its misleading, because the system is not like eve at all. ;)

The World:
Each Game server will have multiple, different continents to fight on. A contient with an active Volcano, one with big open forests, snowy plains on another continent, you name it. While Planetside 2 wont have everything you could imagine right at release, who knows what will be added after release? There was talk about mutiple planets, and even the idea of getting enough planets and continents into the game to allow the combination of the game servers to one, big, global server just like eve. Nobody knows if it will be done at some point, but the devs have a plan, see below.

At some point during the near future, the devs will post their 3 years plan for Planetside 2. That means they will tell us right away what their ideas and concepts are for the future of the game. Players can then directly give feedback and improve, or even completly change, the plan.

logit: True, very true. But this is actually a good thing.
Get people hooked up to the 1000 players thing rather than dropping a bomb of information nobody could possibly understand.
The idea is to drop a little thread in various forums to let new people get the basic idea of planetside. Once you managed that, you won.

This isnt the first time im doing this. Did it for Jumpgate Evolution, Vanguard and Eve Online. And with Jumpgate, i managed to cause a small chain reaction and get a few dozen people hooked up. If Jumpgate wouldnt have died earily, who knows where this could have lead? A single person may know 2 guys, and if those 2 guys also each know 2 guys, and they all hear about the game because of YOU, then you just caused 7 people to check out the game. And more importantly, if one of those 7 guys is the main person of an online Clan/guild/outfit/comunity (means the guy that everyone else wants to play with, the guy that just needs to pick up a new game to have half of his community follow him, you know such guys for sure), then you propably just got 10-xxx new players.
Granted, i simplified this a lot just now, but this is how it works.

I mean, if you use some quality videos from PS1, people could at least get a general feel for what is to come.

I still show people videos that are 3-4 years old on youtube, and 9 times out of 10, they've never heard of the game before but find it incredibly awesome.

I think everyone can agree that 1000 vs 1000 vs 1000 is attractive all on it's own, regardless of what kind of war game you are playing. So using that will generate a good amount of interest.

This is why you wait.

I understand people being enthusiastic...I am too, but we're getting way, wayyy too far ahead of ourselves.

Take the trailer for example. We can watch it in the context of Planetside and see what it could be, while other people would see nothing but a clearly unfinished game with graphics from 2008.

Wait until we have more to show. Wait until there's beta signups, a gameplay video with more than 32 people and some solid information other than "well, the skill system's sort of like EVE, and there's gonna be weather!".

Just look at KOTOR to see a game that got it's fanbase working too soon. I know countless people who've gotten hyped, lost the hype, decided it'll just be a WoW clone and declared they're probably not getting it. I know there's still plenty of people looking forward to it, but it's been in people's minds so long that some of them have lost interest.

Don't spread the word. It's not enough. Wait until there's words, then spread those.

I have told so many people about PS1 just recently and no one has even heard of it let alone PS2, this would be mainly my halo reach buddies and friends from the army.

I still get a boner when I see the PS2 trailer, it looks amazing with the lighting.

The worst part about getting people hyped about PS2 is that I cannot in good conscious recommend buying and playing PS1...

Nothing like convos going like this:

Perhaps they could also take the same initiative as bioware with swtor and let outfits pre-register VIA subsites they can create off of the main site.

It would spike interest as outfits would rush to ensure their outfit has a reserved slot per se.

That is true... because it is. Those who seen past it's flaws stuck with it.. and have a great fucking time... considering its not just a shooter with infantry.... it has aircraft, tanks, buggies, artillery. Teamwork, coordination and a massive scale assault factor..... That alone should be the positive points.... i mean ffs.. its nearly 9 years old... if they can't appreciate that.. then lie............ because when ps1 FIRST came out... it was so absolutely beautiful and amazing.. the graphics... the people... the warfare.... People may not see that much now, but shit man... nearly a decade ago......... Get them hyped out PS2 as I believe it's going to learn from it's predecessors mistakes.

I don't mean to be "that guy", but you really do need to...stop...doing....this.

I would like to get something going more at Hard OCP. There was a few topics made not exceeding 2 pages. What a shame when even crappier games have well over 10 pages :(.

EDIT: I read Vancha's post. I do agree with what he said as well. Maybe at least wait for a more in depth trailer/beta. Need something to keep back the SOE haters and people who are unknown about PS2 to get a good first impression. Something along the lines of jaw dropping (I wish).

Basti I would recommend putting in big bold initialized underlined letter this is a PC exclusive. Maybe not that much, but just make it clear it is not a console game. I could see people thinking this namely due to graphics. Lots of PC gamers namely FPS players love exclusive titles. While slightly different genre being single player and very up to date graphics this indie game is getting a lot of attention due to this and its called Hard Reset (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/08/hard-reset-pc-exclusive-single-player-only-new-engine-omg.ars).

Negative.... Everything we participate in is pre-advertised.... To add to the suspense of "omg I want it" .

If we get the word out now and people see it NOW .... they will be interested in the future... this isn't madden, it isnt unreal tournament. People don't know wtf it is, so there is no point in advertising it 3 months before release as it won't get to enough people in time. We get the idea into heads now, and in a year when it starts charging out.. people are like " wtf I know that game, where did i see this at? " among ten other reason to pre-advertise... and constantly.

This is a new franchise for nearly all gamers... think about it... 30k people max have played planetisde..... there are 6 billion in the world...... It's not too early.........
That's just it. There's no suspense. People seeing it now won't give a damn about the future. There's nothing to show. There's nothing people will see and go "Oooh, shiny!". The only reason we find the trailer and information exciting is because we're Planetside's fanbase. What we've been given so far will mean NOTHING to anyone else.

I'm not saying wait until there's 3 months to release, but there's no point advertising a game that has nothing to advertise. There's nothing for people to absorb. It's just a lot of vague information. In terms of things people can check out, this game barely reaches "vaporware" levels.

And no, I strongly disagree that "Where do I recognize this from? Oh yeah, I remember this..." is better than "What the hell is this? This looks awesome! Where did this come from all of a sudden?!".

I agree that it's not too early to start getting people hyped for PS2. I already have a number of friends who never played PS1 but have already pre-ordered PS2. It would be nice to have a few more trailers and screenshots to show off, but we'll see more of that soon enough. In the mean time, most people will be blown away at just the description of PS1.

I have found it very hard to explain even the basics of Planetside in a short forum post. I have a different approach.

I have created a blog. Every entry focuses on some aspect of the game, old PS and new PS vary, some with more text (about game mechanics), others are vids, screenies, other media - and vids are in cathegories like vids of events, vids of "skill", edited and assorted gamplay etc.

This way you don't have to go into detail when you are on a different forum (where you may have not yet made an impact, so no one really cares about you). Just a small promo and the link to my blog, where everyone spends as much time as they want, no wall of text, no need to be brief, no need tell about every aspect...

My blog is under construction, it needs visual, it needs content (though I have more than a dozen posts in draft). Oh, and the biggest problem for you guys: it is hungarian! Title says "Planetside THE MMOFPS - Multi-experience starts above 64."
