Waiting for a Steam release. Not a fan of pre-orders.

It looks like a generic preorder for a non-existent product, so no. ;)

Also, I want to get the Collector's Edition, should there be any. :)

Waiting to see more first. My hopes are up, but I'm not plunking money down on a trailer.

I looked at that preorder thing and it doesnt look like they take the money till the game comes out anyway. . . . . . .

Not really any value pre-ordering now. They will likely have special editions and have some sort of bonuses to ordering those in the future. Also waiting to see what deployment options. I would also prefer Steam as it makes re-deployment and acquisition to new machines easy.

its a possibility, it really is. They keep talking about Battlefield and how well the vehicle combat was and how they liked it.

We will have to see. I really want to see more.. dying here

I'm right there with you, Tigersmith. And, as the person who actually DISCOVERED that Planetside 2 could be preordered, YES, I have preordered the game :D

As far as the game's potential connection to Battlefield, I happen to adore the Battlefield games. I enjoy Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 1 and 2, specifically), but I prefer Battlefield. Besides, Planetside is so unique, I highly, HIGHLY doubt that the game will feel like a repainted Battlefield. Instead perhaps, we will see tiny elements that "remind" us of Battlefield, amidst a giant, energy-searing melee of desctructive glory that is Planetside :D

Meh.

I pre-ordered Windows 7 Home Premium because it came with somewhere near a 50% discount. The Planetside 2 pre-order doesn't come with anything special, so I'd rather just go to EB Games and buy it off the shelf some time after it comes out. I'm not really a "stand in line for hours, gotta have it first thing" kind of person, though I did do that for the WoW xpacs, because a bunch of us were going together. Given that I've never met a single "real life" human being that has heard of, played, or cared about Planetside after I mentioned it, I don't think I'll have a line to stand in let alone any friends to stand in one with.

Do you need a lesson in reading comprehension? By your comment, it would seem that you do.

This means, "Planetside 2 won't be popular enough to worry about it being sold out, so I'll just walk in and buy it when I feel like it".

Can't argue with that. I need to be invited to more BBQs than none! Though we do all have wives, kids, and jobs, so when you factor in how we spend our limited free time on the computer and how we all live at least 20Km apart in most cases, it's understandable if not forgivable. Ah, what it would be to be 20 and at a basement LAN party again...

Waiting for info on what sites have what items for pre-order and if there is a collectors edition before I commit. I will pre-order that's a given. It's just from who and in what form thats the question mark.

Honestly nobody should have any fear about how massive to be they have made themselves extremely clear on that. Do you honestly think they would release PlanetSide 2 and it not be massive?

No because it's probably going to be a massive piece of shit Battlefield clone.

Why are you here then if you already think it's a failure?

Ugh. Physical media. How 2009. *shudder*

I just spent the last three days downloading two years worth of updates for Aion (9GB or so) on my super awesome $43/month "rural broadband internet" (Motorola canopy wireless). Cost twice as much as the 28.8 dial up alternative, but downloads about 14 to 20 times faster on average.

Sad part? I have cable TV and there is DSL a Km away, but the cable/telcos are too cheap to extend the services. It just goes right on by us down the highway...

Saddest part? I can play Planetside with approx 80 average ping or I can use voice chat. lol... one time when a guildy and I were two manning an old 25 man raid in WoW, I was hearing his vent instructions a good 10 minutes behind when he said them.

I loves my physical media and my affordable house with a big yard! :D

How would physical media help you with online updates?

How would physical media help you with online updates?

Nothing solves the update thing for me. I just used it as a way to show how slow my interwebs are and why I still like good o'l physical media. :)

exLupo uses services like Steam to buy all his games online (which is awesome), while I prefer to knock off a large chunk of game files by purchasing them on physical media (rather than downloading the whole game) whenever that is possible.

i will pre order when a collectors comes out, as for right now, i see no benifit in invesating 50 bucks in a game with no release date. i fully intend on getting it, but id rather use that 50 else where until i get a date of release or a tangible object.

1 teaser trailer isnt enough to pre-order

This, while I am a avid planetside fan, I cant justify a pre-order based on a trailer.

I will end up buying it no doubt. But I want to wait for more info. like system specs, release date and what freebees the preorder comes with

That is a good point A co-worker lived in the sticks and even when she got hillbilly wireless her bandwidth caps were too restrictive to stream full installs.

The problem I'm finding is about the same problem I had when I regularly purchased discs. Before, I had too much crap in boxes. Now I'm going to start having too many content service logins. There's steam and gog, origin and impulse and a metric ton of others. Not like rolling up to Best Buy, Gamestop or Wally World and picking up a box.

Woe is me. First world problems abound.

I really prefer getting retail copies of the big-name games such as Skyrim/Battlefield 3. However, if it's something small/cheap I'd normally get it on Steam.

 Like every file in Planetside has been modified that existed on the original disks (I used them once when the game came out) would be mostly pointless as the launcher downloads all the maps and most of the content since it all changed slightly. That's actually kind of true for a lot of MMO games. Just look at WoW. They changed every quest and remodeled all the maps in the whole game such that pretty much all the content on the disks is out of date.

So yeah I'd prefer digital download only.

Depends on the game really - it will knock off some time at release fo sure.

But chances are if you are playing an open beta when a game comes out you already have the entire game

All they'll do is send you the unlock key and you'll be playing. That would be golden.

Way too early to pre-order. Doesn't make sense to pre-order without knowing the release date.

Also I typically like to have much more concrete knowledge about a game before pre-ordering.

I will prolly get it through steam, however only if there is a way to play it without it showing how many hours i've played to my steam friends list. I don't need my boss knowing i played 30hrs of planetside on my sickday...
