View Full Version : Unique Terrain
I was just thinking I would love to see more terrain and terrain features in the game that speak to the games past. Ancient battlefields with craters and burned out wreaks, blasted mountain sides from ships crashing into them, body armor from dead soldiers.
Considering that it's an endless war you would think there would be more debre and rubble from all the fighting.

The debris and corpses get re-absorbed by the planet's nanite networks. Which was just a story explanation for technical and design limitations in the old game I'm sure, but I thought it was clever.

My idea for unique terrain.
Can you imagine a large area that is like a tron grid. Then it spawns the enviroment, mountains begin rising lifting anything ontop of it. Hills form, grass appears until like minute or two its all done and it is replaced with a random generated terrain for fighting. The bases would be preset but the roads would be random as well. One time the road may go over a grassy plain but next time its generated it flows through a windy pass in the mountains. One base could be open or completly isolated in mountains with narrow entrances to it. And the next day the map will deconstruct into the tron grid for a couple minutes as it randomly generates the next map for construction.
Lorewise I picture it as a terrain maker from the ancients. What you all think?
EDIT:Bases could be randomly generated as well I guess. But it would be in specific generations making sure each of every base is constructed and not all tech plants

one thing in the terrian i wouldnt mind a little more of were the bunkers outside of the bases. i would like for tehre to be small undergroun tunnel networks that could be used for variuos reasons, beyond a place for us cloakers to hide.

Up until you said that I'd totally forgotten that the bunkers have a connection network. I'd love, way out in nowhere land, expeditionary bunker clusters with rat's warrens beneath. Maybe an equip term at the heart and that's it. It'd open up yet another play experience to PS2.
Pardon me while I daydream.

You're not the only person who has wanted such a thing. I have fond memories of hiding out in the bunker tunnels during a very heavy base siege and was seriously hoping that CC would have brought that kind of fighting on a much larger scale. Fixed routers and their tele-pads embedded in such rats nests would be wonderful as would be dead ends, air ducts, and broken floors.
Heck give us a long tunnel under a desert with a few check points where we can spawn and pull non-tech ground vehicles.

I've been playing the original Deus Ex for the first time this week. I've got air ducts on the brain.

With the new territory capturing I expect to see more stuff like that show up. Little areas of fortification around the capture point if there is one, or just at defensable locations if there's not.

@OP - with the lore about the AI running Auraxis, the absorption idea (which I think actually is the SOE provided lore explanation) would cover a lack of dynamic wreckage.
They've said there will be ruins but I believe the dynamic landscape will be covered by the temporary structures. See: Smed's cryptic "those look like landing struts" dev panel comment.
