Take note of the backpack on one of the chars. Also, notice how all the armor types are similar.
The "Rexo" looks like Agile only with thigh and elbow guards, and a different helmet.
Now we have some class with a backpack, possibly an engineer.
THEN you have the TR soldier with a Gauss.
If you ask me, it looks like, as long as you're not an Infiltrator or inside a MAX suit, you'll possibly be able to swap loadouts off dead characters, like in the Battlefield series. It would only swap some extra protection, backpack and maybe the helmet, much like in Battlefield. Talk about flexibility and "seamlessly switching between roles"! :)
Also, the TR Infil... Hot stuff. :)

I'm beginning to wonder...
Matt clearly said no weapon swapping and then there was a pretty big storm on the forums about it; to the point several threads were started and many comments in threads on other topics.
Now we see weapons being held by factions other than their standard faction...
So... so does this mean SOE is... LISTENING?!?!?!
This is the end of the world.

Maybe they felt like kit switching, at least with some of the more standard weapons, wasn't as much of a balance deal as stealing a tank?

I'd be wary at reading into too much of these screenshots and drawing conclusions about the mechanics of the game, like pulling weapons from fallen enemies. However, it is an encouraging sign that they are at least toying with the idea.
EDIT: I actually am pretty surprised that it's not going to be on PS3. I would have bet good money after Smedley's reaction to the question during Fan Faire that they were planning to do what they did for DCUO. I guess I was wrong...for now.

The game is still just internally playable, and still kinda early, they can put any weapon they want on any character they want. Dont read into it that we will be allowed to do it once all systems are in place. Them playin around with em doesnt affect balance or all the upgrades/resource/class limit issues etc that they are concerned about. The TR usin a gauss at this stage of development doesnt mean a thing.
The tr cloaker chick is lookin hawt. Now if we could get some pics of some VS who arent just in PJ's, and some vehicles. I'd be pretty stoked.

Seeing as we pick every piece of media we get to the bone in order to draw conclusions about the game mechanics, and also that I would imagine they are pretty mindful of what they show in the screenshots they release, I would be surprised if they mislead us like that. But, then again maybe they aren't as cautious as I thought.

I'm also under the impression that the TR Cycler visible on one of the screens (the Cycler that kills that NC) is:
a) slightly redesigned,
b) customized,
c) differently lit,
in a way that makes its lower body look more steel-like, instead of dark and carbon-fiber-ish, like in the earlier screens. The whole stock is now black as well, and the front grip seems to be brighter.

Looking good so far, but with all of the TR focused screenshots I can't help but notice the lack of 'black' in their armor to really go with the red. I hope as you rank up your BR TR will become a lot more Black/Red focused and lose a lot of their grey like they do currently in PS1.

Funny people actually thought there was a possibility of this endin up on PS3. No way in hell these super outdated consoles could do it. Its not just the super old graphics chips these things use (nvidia 7800gt approx on the ps3) but also the lack of enough memory, video and standard memory both. And a host of other issues, just make it too much of a hassle for some aspects and impossible for others. Its one thing playin a crappy 12 player deathmatch on a teeny tiny map and playin with 1200 players in a gigantic world.

I'm getting the impression that part of their scheme will be based on their BR, and their class will have some additional influence as well, like medics will be predominately white to be easier to identify as allies... or key targets as enemies.
Side-note: I could swear the TR in this image (http://www.incgamers.com/images/screenshots/28948orig.jpg) were live-action photographed and shopped in if I didn't know what Planetside was.
Another thing I should mentioned: in a prior image, the TR helmets are the same between the masked and unmasked version, there's just an added face plate over the helmet on the "rexo" armor, which may or may not simply be a customizable feature not necessarily tied to the armor's protective value.
Now if only we could get proper views of the NC and VS armors, even though I think the VS armors are going to be skin-tight, crisis suit inspired armors.

I like the heavily detailed soldier models. It all looks... so real.
Also, if you thought this game even had a chance of hitting the PS3, such a simple and cheap console could not run a game half the scale of PS2. They tried it with MAG; a massive lagfest, and very barebones as they focused all of their resources into the "scale" instead of the gameplay. Only PCs can handle games such as this.

Everyone's concerned that their PCs are going to suffer when BF3 comes out, I'm a lot more concerned about Planetside 2. Very high-poly models with extremely high res textures, combined with all the other post processing going on and anti-aliasing?
Combine that with possibly 50+ things on your screen at ones makes for a chug fest.

If anything, it'd be a dumbed-down port featuring 128vs128 players released 3 years after PC. I can never see consoles being made to where you can swap out parts; just because hardware developers likely wouldn't develop aftermarket parts for consoles. And, because of this, consoles would never be able to handle games on a massive scale such as PlanetSide.

I'd like a link to where he said they're removing weapon scavenging. All he said is it makes it hard to balance. Something shouldn't be removed simply because it isn't a walk in the park to balance.

"Q: Why was veh hacking removed?
-Couple reasons, the one you mention is one, another is because we really want to push the empires to be very different in PS2, and getting ahold of enemy weapons and vehicles makes it a lot more of a balance nightmare.
Note that he didn't say 'its not', or 'its just vehicles'. He was asked why it was removed, gave a couple reasons, and also brought weapons into it too.

I think they didn't want to add weapon swapping because they wanted to make the empires' stats different from each other. For instance, a TR soldier could have less armor, but a higher run/sprint speed. Now if he picked up a Jackhammer, he would be able to close distance quicker, making him balanced with an MCG (somehow), but (somehow) imbalanced with a different empire's empire-specific weapon.
They may have assumed that making the empires THAT much different from each other is pointless (and a balance nightmare), and therefore opted to make all characters of the same class identical.
Thus, there are no balance issues with a TR having an NC/VS weapon. It also makes the game more fun, allows for switching kit without spawning a Cycler on an NC body (so you have an appropriate gun for your class and empire), or leaving your weapon on you all the time, allowing you to puck up Medic gear and keep with an MCG.

When the PS4 is released it will be far more powerful vs the current PS3. I see no reason why it couldn't handle PS2 to be honest. The rumored Wii2 specs are interesting and if Sony's are better it will have no issues run this game.

Either they've changed their positions or he was simply stating it does cause balance issues (which they don't).
There's other possibilities...
1) It's alpha and they were messing around, comparing weapon characteristics, etc.
2) The screenshot pre-dates the decision to remove scavenging.
3) It may be kit scavenging, not weapon scavenging. Kit scavenging makes a lot more sense given class restrictions on weapons. BF has kit scavenging and is a heavy influence on PS2.
And weapon scavenging can affect the game quite a lot balance-wise. Hearing a gauss rifle and knowing it must have come from a NC is quite different from it also being some TR dicking around. Same goes for all the other empire-specific weapons, and you can also derive class information from just the sound of a weapon. That isnt' necessarily the case if there's weapon scavenging.
It was a big difference for me playing Day of Defeat back in the day when they added weapon scavenging. I could no longer rely nearly as much on sound to tell me much more than someone was nearby. I could no longer discern friend-or-foe purely by sound. I know it isn't realistic to use sound as IFF but from a gameplay perspective it was a skill differentiator. That differentiator was significantly reduced when they added that.
Some weapons are distinctly tied to empires, like in PS1 it was the MAX suits. If you heard a scatmax there was no other possibility than an NC max was in the vicinity. In PS2 since there is no vehicle jacking the same will be true for tanks and other empire-specific weapons. You hear a vanguard or its cannon you know an NC is driving it. Making the same binding for infantry weapons also makes sense.
In addition to mundane but important things like weapon/player giveaways with not having scavenging, they could also have distinct and different empire-wide balancing. For example, they could balance one empire assuming you had a set of classes on-hand. Like one NC class might use a certain close-range shotgun which doesn't have long-range viability. To compensate for this a different NC class weapon might be more effective at long-range than the other empire counterparts. Likewise perhaps one of the common TR weapons has more close-range viability. So by having one TR loot the NC shotgun and the others using the other close-range guns the TR group could gain an edge that wasn't accounted for.
This in and of itself isn't a balance issue because theoretically all empires could get all combinations, but the reality of it is that in practical use it depends on the characteristics of the weapons and how they are distributed/used amongst the empires. Being able to mix and match these across empires creates more combinations to consider and might make one empire easier to achieve the more broken combinations due to the nature of their weaponry and the fact that they can scavenge a few things from their foes.
Point being that in ways not strictly clear-cut (like binding certain sounds to specific empires). It does create more balance combinations to consider which make sit harder, but it could create combinations that certain empires have a much easier time obtaining than others which would create a balance issue when theoretically it shouldn't exist.

The teaser trailer had some Vanu in it, in multiple armor types, IIRC. I think all we've seen of NC so far appears to be Standard, and the Gauss Rifle. Neither of which were particlarly exciting to behold (since they're both pretty blandly "realistic gun/flak armor" looking), hence my dissatisfaction. I won't argue that NC have at least had more screen-time than Vanu so far, but it's been mostly either from the first person perspective (looking down a Gauss at TR), or getting shot in the back by squads of other empires looking all brave and rugged.

After a complaint about the female cloaker's concept art chest I inspected the breasts and came to the conclusion that they are perfectly fine and need no alterations or manipulation at all.
However... she is not wearing heels. This glaring oversight into the stealth gameplay will not stand! 6 inch heels with a sexy ribbon winding up the leg help blood circulation during intense missions inside an NC instalation. Without the height advantage of an extra 6 inchs TR cloakers will not be able to peek over walls to see what they have to sneak past. This needs to be fixed!
TR cloakers need high heels!

Oh, I think they could use some... "Manipulation"... Eh? Eh? Wink wink, nudge nudge, knowwhatImean? :P
As for the high heels, my sarcastic side agrees wholeheartedly. :) In all seriousness, though, that's what I love about PS2. The art direction just screams seriousness and professionalism. :)

Porn != life. :P
I'm not sure whether or not I want to see gimp suit-like headgear for TR cloakers again. It looks professional and I think proper goggles make it look un-stupid, plus the visible face is nice, character-wise. On the other hand, it's the gimp suit again. :P
I hope covering up the forehead, leaving only the lower face exposed, will be available. That would make quite a difference.
Nah. Better yet is headgear that has eye area covered with a mask contiguous with a tight-fitting head cover that does not extend above the area in the eye sockets. Looks cool with realistic hair out the top of it.

I seriously can't believe people actually thought that PS3 would have Planetside 2. I also can't believe that they would want it to, the game would have to be so dumbed down it's not even funny.
Anyways, the game is looking amazing and I can't wait to play with you guys. :D

Had a laugh at the TR lunch pale backpack and the chastity belt model on the female soldier.
That was my first impressions anyway. Hey TR guy, there's an NC behind you!

(Indeed. Unbeknownst to them but beknownst to us, big sexy heels (stripper shoes are awesome) on cloakers was an application of comedy. I don't actualy think that TR cloakers need them at all - but keep it just between the two of us. After all its far better if her feet are supple and easy to control... so she can climb poles and stuff to reach places less travelled.)

To put this game on any console present or future would have been terrible mistake, if soe are serious about development. I don't think that the PS3 could even handle planetside 1 and the ps4 would be pretty difficult to develop for 3/4 years on from its release if the game is to last 10/15 years or what ever SOE's ambitions for constant development if they are aiming to develop the EVE of the mmofps genre.

Playing Planetside on PS would become something out of the three stooges
Hey Dude, want to play PS2?
Why? I just bought a PS3?
That's out already?!
Of course! PS2 is ancient news man
What? there's just a few screenshots out there! Jetpacks!
Jetpacks on a PS3? Now that's crazy!
No! Jetpacks on PS2!
What, like Eye-toy?
and on and on ad nauseum

nah most of us knew that. The real question was "are they planning a PS4 launch or tie-in into Planetside 2?"
Why was that the real question? Sony won't be pushing the PS4 until they can afford to take the hit a new console brings.

Or just:
"Hey, have you got PS2 for your PS3?"
"No, I have the 80GB model"
Also, who is the tank?

That looks like a SIG SG 55x model assault rifle, WHY IS THE TR USING MAH GUNZ?!
So, i'm guessing the jackhammer might be more of an auto shottie as opposed to the 3 barrel cluster fuck shot? I'm really admiring the modern (of today) or the "retrofitting" of the weapons :groovy:
