Now that it is confirmed F2P. I can see why FF would be disabled.

What is there to stop a greifer from just making another acct and continue his FF ways

good point....but also it is only going to be one character. i'd still b willing to risk someone having no life and creating new characters and not progressing any of them just to tk people, in order to have ff ingame. I liked friendly fire in the sense that MANY people did try to avoid spamming shells right near friendlies, and the grief system (although not perfect) was a deterrent.

Would be nice if /report actually had a legitimate function in PS2 as well.

This makes no sence man, there are tons of ftp shooters out there and none really have a problem with game breakers. Especially in a game like PS, what could a lone team killer do? I'ts not like the death of one or two guys would change anything in a team of several hundreds. No, disabling FF is just a very bad idea, no need to elaborate on that.

Higby said he is a griefer / dick, so looks like we're in good hands...

Hopefully SOE will be smart and have some way of tracking individuals, like asking for a valid credit card at signup. Free or not, a CC can still be used for authorization/revocation of player accounts.

LOL I thought of that too when I read it. Hopefully tho this'll be like a case where the gov't finally catches a really good hacker and instead of throwing him in jail they hire him to stop other hackers instead.... :D

He said this in the context of liking to spawn camp as a Scat Max against other empires that's not really 'griefing' in the sense we are using it in this thread.

Additionally, if the game uses a "pay for the game, but free to play" model, which I think is the most likely, and they link the game to the account, then you won't be able to have multiple accounts for just griefing.

You're right, it's not really griefing. More like exploitation of a broken mechanic.

It's not really griefing what he was talking about, it's just being a dick and using lame tactics

Back when CSRs took attention to PS that function actually worked. If someone was tking, being offensive over global, or some other issue a lot of the time that person did get punished be it suspended or silenced. I have not seen it do anything for years though.

Was it ever confirmed what type of F2P? As in buying the box for $50 then no sub or just down loading the client to play.

People could do that with the original planetside with the free trials and ps reserves, but you didnt see alot of it. If it does get to be a big enough problem, im sure they would try to fix it.

it took them four years+ to remove fodderside. If you believe your own words, I still have yet to sell some pristine land in the Sahara Desert that won't try to kill you.

Had a guy named Bzzzzt-E on NC killing friendly NC AMS's for the Vanu the other night in PS... That was awesome

There are many cleverer and more damaging ways to grief teamates just waiting to be pioneered in PS2. Hopefully there will be some accountability for this kind of things, regardless of if new accounts are totally free, or cost megabucks.

I'm pretty sure I know who that is, and yeah, I saw that too.
