No. Planetside is not even the same genre, WoW's already dieing anyways.
But yes...
PLANETSIDE > WoW
Just to get my fanboy-ism out of the way.
But seriously, not even comparable.

The two are like Ninjas and Pirates, totally incomparable, and one is obviously more awesome then the other.
some kind 'full circle' or revenge killing? i know more than one left my outfit when wow came out, but i think eve was worse. now killing eve, that would be quite the feat.

Killing Eve would be like creating world peace, as long as there are greedy pirates around it ain't gonna happen.

Every new MMO coming out you see this topic, no it isnt, your comparing potatoes to poutine. If you dont know what poutine is, I feel bad for you.

Not sure if comparisons based on genre is a factor. If the majority of people from WoW quit playing it because game x is better, that would be a WoW killer imo.

Old question is old. I don't think even WoW 2 would be a WoW killer. If freakin EQ is still around, then our grandkids are going to be playing WoW.
P.S. Had to look up poutine. Much more G-rated than I thought it would be, but still looks tastey.

Didn't need to look up poutine, used context. Still don't know or care what it is though.
Someone should make a poutine thread.

with the way they're portraying ps2, it might be that wow is the ps2 killer.
and I don't even like wow.

Once again, 101 of MMOs:
One MMO cannot kill another MMO, and NO mmo can EVER kill WOW. Its impossible to "kill" it, if it dies, then by itself.

I saw a graph that said PS at its heyday had 60k subs, hell WoW isn't even on the graph
http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart3.html
whats WoW's sub numbers,(I checked,11.4m)I'm too lazy to look it up but its way over a million and was higher than that for a long time.
can you imagine if this game sell 500k,and that number isn't out of reach if SOE would put some muscle into promotion,
hell how many ppl actually own a gaming rig anymore? seems like everyone is going console.
after looking at that Wow number, maybe there enough home comps still out there that can run a decent game,I hope so

Mad, there are plenty of people with rigs out there, much more than consoles. Dont know who ever started that BS that "Consoles are the future and have already overtaken PCs", but the fact is, PCs will ALWAYS stay the real gaming machines, especialy for FPS and RTS games.
SavageB
2011-09-12, 07:11 PM
Ya all the first games created were for PC mostly, and of course the atari was console. All fps's you see today were created primarily for PC's only and migrated to console as time went on.

But back on topic, poutine... A couple weeks ago I went to a chip wagon with a bowl, a fork and a bag of cheese curds... I got some fries and gravy on the side and made parking lot poutine in my truck.

WoW is already dead.
They certainly are seeing issues. Honestly if anyone is going to kill WoW it's the new Star Wars game. PlanetSide 2 isn't even in the same category.
WoW is already dead.
Damn razor, you have some high standards if you consider 10million subs dead.
The only game that will kill WoW is WoW. People have invested too much time to quit for another MMO. Anyone who thinks WoW will be killed by another game is (no offense) disillusion. Just look at how many games have tried and failed to even scratch WoW's sub numbers.

Planetside 2 is in the video game category. It's all you need!
You see, everyone compares there game to being the WoW killer but the massive difference you are all missing is that THOSE games had no potential at ALL!

Lets not talk about WoW. Its a game where after it first came out, every expansion started killing the overall feel of the game. And now its just unbearable to play.

You know your talking about WoW right after you said, "lets not talk about WoW" right? And personally I think the game was much better in WotLK but got much worse in Cata (because Im a casual AOE loving wrath baby apparently - I played EQ2 from launch and raided there for the first 3 'tiers'... I don't want to raid anymore, even though WoW raids are thounsands of times better than the old eq2 raids). Cata just made WoW into a totaly raid or die game then they made it kinda casual friendly but its too late! Guild Wars 2 has got me tied up and excited with its norns and plant peoples!

We shouldnt look at it as jsut a "WOW Killa"...
We should look at this as more of MMORPG killer in general. Look at all the MMOs out there, the far majority of players are RPG players. Now look at the non MMO market, which genre dominates all game play? Thats right FPS's!
So this game should help mark the entry of a successful FPS into the MMO market and turn FPS's developers to the cause.
MMORPG KILLER
Lets not talk about WoW. Its a game where after it first came out, every expansion started killing the overall feel of the game. And now its just unbearable to play.
And yet it still has millions(10+?) subscribers.

I thought PS2 was supposed to blow the roof off of the (non existent) MMOFPS market and spark a whole trail of crappy "MMOFPS" clones?
It is a nice thought though. WoW losing even more of it's playerbase and failing. I despise WoW and CoD, both games have made a negative impact on the gaming industry, implanting the idea that you have to rehash the exact same gameplay then simply add a new title to sell your game.
Fortunately it looks like both games are getting a lot of negative criticism lately.

You can't hate games for being successful because other companies refuse to innovate. That's retarded logic.

I really liked Cata, I just think they ended up making really odd decisions. The game was mostly succesfful in wotlk because it appealed to everyone's playstyle at the time. But cata focused too much on hard-core raiding and redoing the content that they overlooked so much. You can't please an entire wide audience forever, eventually you need to give someone the cold shoulder.
in wotlk they were driving an SUV with many seats. In Cata they did alot of cool things but they lost a couple seats. Like they folded the backseat down or something and put a bunch of coolers up there. So I was like "f you man, I'll get in my own car" but driving is hard so I'm chilling at Hamma's place until SOE picks us up.

I think that in order to be a true brockabusta, Planetside needs to be addictive.
You know how things that are fun, that you swiftly conquer, and you feel like The Man, you don't bother going back to?
But things that annoy you, defeat you, kick sand in your face and humiliate you, challenging you that if you were just that much faster, or that much better prepared, or some other quanta that are just outside your grasp at this moment, but could be thine if only you spent the time and money on a killer rig/surround sound/better mouse/lots more practice/intelligent inventory management/WHATEVER, THESE are the things that keep you coming back for more.
Like the saying goes:
What is the only thing a gambler loves more than winning at gambling?
Losing at gambling!
And it isn't only the glorious victories that come at the expense of hard work, planning, sheer heart-pounding guts and determination combined with possibly those moments of enemy inattention that align like the tumblers in some cosmic lock to produce that "click" that gives you, literally, that 0:01 resecure or what have you that keep you coming back.
No, it's those Black Betty days of slogging through hard work, getting pwned, pwned, then OMGPWNZ0RZED and the desktop-pounding frustration of ALMOST WINNING but not quite getting there that are also so addictive.
Success. It's sweet. So addictive that the bitter, sour heaping helpings of failure you encounter on the way to it only make it that much MORE sweet, AND addictive.
No one survives Hell Week in the Navy Seals and says "Wow, they should make that easier so all the pansies can be Seals." At least I don't think anyone did.

Why?
No idea, I gave it a chance. I just never could really get into it.
I hate how all of the monsters react the same way, I hated the grind, too cartoony, no aim required in anything. All of your abilities were based off stats, not skill.
Most missions are go kill 10 of these and come back.
PvP was more reliant on items than skill.

Sooo you don't like all standard MMORPGs then.
Yeah pretty much.
I loved Diablo 2, in fact I think PvP in D2 was more fun than WoW.
At least you had to aim.
I liked SWG, but I played with a lot of friends and I love star wars. Otherwise my list pretty much applies to this as well.
Now that I think about it, most of the time when I played RPG's was because the group of people was fun, not really the game.
Not too hard to be good at MMORPG, just devote tons of time to it
I've tried them all at some point or another.

Or is PS2 going to kill BF3?
PS2 being F2P does make things interesting. I would expect PS2 to kill Battlefield Play4Free.

I suspect that the F2P idea will be a great way to intercept and plug cheat codes and exploits. Then they can go back to subscriptions for everyone.
