View Full Version : No Wraith ATV?

I was reading the Twitter Q&A with the developers (thanks transcribers!), and noticed this rather disturbing piece of news. ...

Q: Is the Phantasm going in? Or any sort of stealth vehicles. Volumetric clouds are awesome but is there stealth too?

A: No stealth vehicles currently slated for LAUNCH

Now I personally don't really care about the Phantasm, but the Wraith was integral to a lot of my Cloaker activities in PS1. With all the extra stuff they're promising for PS2 I would be mightily disappointed if they didn't also release the classic Wraith. Any other official word on this?

As much as I hate cloakers (NC AV here), I was surprised by that too. Guess you better have your thumb warmed up and a few pairs of boots ready because you'll be bumming rides and hiking....just like the dirty hippies you are. ;)

I'm not aware of any further news. For the time being it seems that you can either be fast or invisible or fast but not both at once. I'd expect a cloak suit can drive anything, so you'll have that at least.

Plus, as far as we know sprinting will likely be unlimited, like in BFBC2 (a reasonable assumption, considering the vast distances we will have to cover). So in theory you will be able to auto-run hella fast and most of the time you will probably be starting your run from a nearby spawn point anyway. ;)

That being said, the Wraith was a great concept and I wish it to return, even though I never played much as a cloaker (sucked at it, mostly:P).

I was a bit disappointed with that to be honest, it was a good vehicle

And nothing of value was lost. Don't think I ever saw anyone drive one.

When I played I would drive one whenever I was a cloaker. I thought they were great for navigating the battlefield at a distance. I'm sad to see them not included at launch.

I'm sad to see the Phantasm not planned to be honest. I mean, I got along without it before they added it, but I use it every single day in PS1. Maybe they'll add it in down the line.

I was hoping the phantasm was going to make the switch,it was very effective at its job

I did see random vehicle entrance circles and trunk circles though....

Although it's not like the Wraith(even as cloacked) was anything more than a Taxi, you might have to be a little more careful now but I don't think your gameplay will suffer much.

Hmm, I'll talk to our vehicle designers about getting a cloaking device utility attachment for the ATV that works if the rider is an infiltrator.

Wraith is pretty important to me as a cloaker because of the trunk space. That's pretty huge when you don't have an easy access term to hack.

Allows you to stay out in the field a lot longer between resupplies.

Interresting, so its just one ATV now and we can switch between different weapons.

Just let the coaking device replace the weapon and require the user to be infil. Or, dont require him to be infil, but let the cloaking device only cloak the ATV and let the driver remain visible. That would scare the shit out of some guys. :D

lol, i remember the old bug that would make the just the drivers show up on a cloaked wraith wayyy back in the day. That was always good for a "wtf?" moment. =D

That would be awesome.

I knew folks who used the Wraith, it was a useful little vehicle to get around in as a cloaker.

Customization brings a crazy new level to this game that I don't think many of us have even wrapped our heads around yet. Allowing a cloaker to customize his ATV to his or her needs is awesome.

Really, gotta love the dev team for being so connected with the fanbase. Were not even in beta and were already pitching suggestions and having them heard. This game will be very succesful for how much you guys (devs) care about the game your making and being connected with the players.

Thats great news higby, echoing what others have said, it really was the best vehicle for cloakers for the trunk space alone

There will be no trunks or lockers in PS2, though, for all we know.

At best you might be able to cert in an upgrade that turns your vehicle into an ammo dispenser. Think APB's Mobile Supply Unit vehicle upgrade and the boxes of ammo dropped by the Assault class in BFBC2.

I don't know if this would be available for the Wraith, though...
Higgles wrote about adding a "cloaking device utility attachment". Such "utility attachments" may be slotted, with only one slot per vehicle. Unless the Wraith is made into a separate vehicle, it's possible that the cloaking device will occupy that slot, leaving no room for other "utility attachments" like an ammo dispenser, "nitro booster", or whatever.
That being said, I'm sure that, even if the devs don't make it into a separate vehicle, cloakers will make them understand, during beta, how important resupplying off the vehicle would be, and it wouldn't be too late to copy-paste the ATV and create a new, identical vehicle with a hard-wired cloaking device.

Streamlined inventory management. I'm guessing nobody will really be using the trunks in this way, no matter what armor they don.

Indeed you were not. I'm in support of giving a cloaking ATV ability to infiltrators. Not a fan allowing it to cloak for normals since it it just looks odd.

However, I wouldn't be against making a universal ATV cloak if you don't have weapons installed. Like instead of putting something in a weapon slot you can attach a cloak unit. Then for infiltrators it last forever, but for regulars it drains a bar for cloaking the soldier while also turning off their shield leaving it at 0% when they cloak. So basically you can drive it around using rexo but if you choose to cloak your shield turns off and the cloak activates. So even if you jump off while driving you'll have no shield. Just a thought.

Or just allows a cloak for when it's stationary and not in use, kinda like a secret get-away vehicle.

Surprise ATV kills while driving my tank.

Wraiths are very cool. Load them up with boomers and mine a bridge or road, head back to ams and repeat. Do we know how trunk space will work yet?
