Bases look tremendously huge. In the third picture you can see a small figure that looks like a player in the area of the shield. If that IS a person, which is definitely looks to be, then the bases are at least twice as big as in Planetside 1.

Wow, I didn't notice that. DAMN. That thing is huge. You could fly a Galaxy through an opening that size without a moments hesitation.
I can't tell for sure from the picture, is the shielded section way in front of the rock face or is it set into the rock? I would tend to guess that the base is just very close to the cliff, but maybe some bases are heavily incorporated into the surrounding terrain.
Either way, that cliff is even bigger and is definitely close enough to have fun with the base below. Park a Galaxy up top and set up a few AA MAX's for defense and then proceed to rain hell upon them.

The shot witb the gate also shows a section of wall.
1). It has a roof! Could this be the end of casually strafing the walls on fly-bys?
2). Many of the sections have walls of three different heights. I suspect that the lowest can be fired over by someone in a crouch, the middle hieght by someone standing, and the third will be over the head of someone standing.
3). If you zoom in on the shot of the NC, in the upper right corner it looks a whole hellofalot like a similar 3 tiered opening on the top floor of the base itself.
3b). The "amp station" walls show the same 3-tier crenelations, behind the TR.
I'm pretty sure the energy gate thing is not set into the cliff. I believe thats the view from inside the courtyard.
So we have pretty much confirmed the existence of Amp Stations. Interestingly, I wonder if that shield is standard, rather than a mod? That would be awesome, and make things a lot more fun. No more tanks camping doors, unless they went through the effort of being dropped off by a Lodestar!

Quick thoughts:
1) that definitely is a guy off in the distance in the 3rd pic. Also, might that mean the triangle on the lower left of the shield is a mini doorway?
2) Are my eyes playing tricks on me or are the NC soldier's ammo clips different sizes? The one on the left looks longer. (Thats what she said)
3) I'm going to be shooting all you TR in the dick because of that Eye of Sauron belt buckle.

Looking at the size of that guy closer to the gate in the third picture, the wall is at least 20 feet tall and that tall building inside the base is at least 60 feet tall. I'm thinking it's actually closer to 100 feet tall. Maybe 200 feet depending on the distances.
I can has Gauss rifle on TR?

The length of the magazine is about the same distance as the height that the rest of the gun sticks up above the magazine. Both of them are the same that way.

Ah, good call. I think the perspective was throwing me off. It almost looks like the NC on the left is closer to the camera but crouched so the height looks to be the same between the 2. But you are right, looking at each gun relative to itself, they look to be the same size.

That is not a third guy in the picture with the force field gate, it's a rock right next shadow seam, the bright spot between what you think are legs is just an area of the rock being lit up.

The two pictures of the TR are the same image from different angles. So we see this is indeed an AMP station facility with outer wall and inner station. Walls appear to have additional cover up on the ramparts.
First NC shots showing real color on the NC armor and the distinctive square shapes. Like to see some NC helmets though. Seems only TR have helmets.
Far right side of the wall on the first shot looks as though there may be towers along the walls. That would be a cool addition to base design! Though the tower could actually be part of the inner base.
Scale looks huge given the guy in the distance in front of the wall.

If that is indeed a man then it's not only the bases that seem overly large, but that cliff is as well. Based on the size of that so called player one could only imagine a player being VERY VERY tiny down to near impossible to see if he were up near one of those cracks of the cliff. This would pose HORRIBLE game play elements!
Aside from that, the windows of the walls should technically be big enough to fit a mosquito through if a man is that small (probably even smaller if he were closer to the walls).
My eyes tell me that's a hard to see man, but the surroundings of the environment tell me it's not.

if you look at the gate it has a bit of the "roof". looks like to me it would only provide cover from air coming from the outside in but not coming from the inside or along the wall. So a reaver could fly over the base or line up a strafing run along a wall, unload its rockets on the wall and jet away still.

I hope the character animations will be better than what the trailer and those 2 TR screenshots suggest. Some seem to be nice, but others not so much: Is that the "crouching" position? Looks more like he's pretending to sit on an invisible chair. I know what crouch means, and If I remember right it didn't look much better in PS1, but that's a bit too much I think. Use your knee!
The rest looks promising though.

It could just as easily be an VS-specific shotgun or sniper rifle.
Recall that the VS MAX has a big ring in its armament. Perhaps ALL VS pulsar-type weapons have similar "particle accelerator"-type rings. Ergo, I suspect this is NOT the Lasher, but a pulsar. And given that we haven't seen one close up, it's probably not the final version either.

No... That gun was amazing you were bad with it. And it was like the only gun I could use there for awhile I was so laggy. Just had to aim with meh strafe.

They clearly take quite some art stuff from the old game. I mean, we all clearly see this as a base entrance and a AMP station, the visual clues there are just painfully obvious. And i like that a lot.

i was thinking the picture with the shielded gate was taken from outside the base and we would be looking on a hangar gate that is built into the rock of the terrain. would have been very very cool, but now i think it´s right, that the two tr shots are taken on the same position inside the courtyard. still cool to see that the bases still look a little familiar.
and maybe the little guy in front of the gate has been shot by the vs´s duke nukem shrink gun ;-)
i would so love the shrinkgun having an appearance in planetside, but it would only fit the vanu lore and i only play nc :-(

I'm going to guess it's due to cloud cover. We've seen clouds and such in the past.
If you look back at the last batch of screen shots, you'll see one cloudless sunset, another white sky, and a blue sky.
One of the continents might have a permanent cloud layer for some reason... but that wouldn't explain the shadows we're seeing... Odd.

Everything looks to correct scale with that TR soldier in the background, that's a big distance from Base to Foreground. Notice vegetation is not visible around the area of that soldier.
I don't know how I didn't remember those VS soldiers from the trailer before.
I'd have to say that weapon looks like a Lasher or something other than Pulsar, seeing the other soldiers have the pulsar.

Also, this will allow people to fight on the walls, then be pushed back to fight on the building proper as the courtyard is expansive. I'm guessing you could breach it somewhere and go under ground, but maybe there won't be doors from outside - only inside the walls will you have access to the tunnels and such, making it more difficult than rushing the vent shaft of the Death Star- I mean the backdoor of the facility.

True, this could be the sanctuary "replacement", and the normal facilities aren't as massive. It actually makes sense to start there and build the smaller ones afterward.

The tiny figure IS a person.
Look at the flowers. In the foreground you can see two types of plants... those with white flowers, and those with no flowers. Those without are knee-high on the TR. You can also see they're about twice as tall as the flowers. So shun-high on the TR were they standing right next to them.
Now check out those same flowers in the distance near the figure. Compare their height to the height of that tiny figure,
That's no moon... err... rock. Its clearly a person.

I just may have to eat some crow. I already pointed out the crenelations on the wall in that same image. That the walls have roofs. I thought it a bit odd that the roofs were the same shape.
And just now something else that had bugged me clicked into place. One of the wall sections doesn't have crenelations at all... where you'd want them given the choice.
So why are the roof sections the same shape and why is one section missing?
BECAUSE NO ENGINEER HAS DEPLOYED ONE THERE YET. Or because it was there and has since been destroyed.
In the "stuff you want but will never make it into PS2", I listed effective, destroyable defenses.
Anyone know a good recipe for crow?
So if engineers can create walls that can be brought down with enough KaBoom.... that's pretty damn cool, I also suspect that they'll integrate with the deployable turret. So someone using one isn't quite a sitting duck. You might even be required to slap one down first.
Ah, the possibilities.
I just went through the ps2 trailer and didn't see those crenelations anywhere. Maybe they just weren't in yet.
Time will tell.

"Hoardings" were fireproofed wooden add-ons to castle walls that allowed defenders to attack down at enemies directly against the walls without exposing themselves:

And the black-n-yellow striped wall extensions of the base look remarkably similar eh? You can see them in the shot of the NC, and in the gate-less shot of the TR.

I really like the idea of deployable cover and a lot more engineering in the game. But also it may not be a stronghold, looking at past pictures like the one Higby took over looking the base from some elevated structure, shows that possibly the bases are just that big in the event of a 1000 man 3-way giving room to fight. I would figure that the strongholds would have air cover of some sort or some sort of anticamp/farm defenses. If this is true I'm really looking forward to prolonged CY fights with not that much room for vehicles to maneuver but still a large amount of space for large amounts of infantry to engage at will with possible air support playing a huge role in the taking of a CY as well as deployable cover or any other such thing.

OS's don't cover a CY in their present iteration. I'm hoping they don't scale up the OS... but on the other hand, it would be funny to see everyone in an SOI destroyed, say, once a month. In fact, that would make great HD screen capture.
And I would like to see DEPLOYABLE OS-mitigating shelters. They may not block all the damage, but most of it would be kewlzz.

Fine it's a character, really sucks that mosquito's will be able to fly in those giant ass wall windows, seams really pointless to have them if they can. It also sucks that players will be able to hide up in those tiny cracks on that HUUUUUGE ass cliff. I suppose tanks can ride along those walls as well considering the size comparison they are to the player.
I worry for this game if the landscape and rest of the world appears that large to players.

If you take a look at a closer view of those windows, you'll see that there is no way a Mossy would be able to fit in there. Planetside is all about scale, so don't be afraid to go big.

I'm confused - what "wall windows"? You mean the big ass "gate" in the wall? Couldn't a mosquito just.. y'know.. fly OVER the wall? I feel I'm missing somethin' here. =[

Since when could Mosquitoes, or lodestars, for that matter, NOT fly through the gates on our bases? I mean, if the gate itself wasn't blocked with something else.

I've seen it happen at Voltan during a red alert when the shield went up.
Thats not an OS that though.

we killed an entire VS poplock in the basement of Eisa during one of the "Run for the Guns" events on Markov,we held all the spawn points except the base and the cont was locked,we just couldn't push enough ppl down the stairs to get to the tubes so we had NC on all the doors to the outside and kept up the pressure down the stairs until the shield came up.
