So CRAAAAZY old Zachariah learned from his Gamestop friend that Planetside 2 was slated for a March release date and evvvvveryone LAUGHED at me! *wheezes laughter through white beard* Wellll LOOK how the TAY-buls have turned! Ol' Higbee hisself has said that not only will it be an early 2012 release, but SOE knows not to mess that release date up twice!

*dances a mad elbow-waving prospector **** Now whos'a laughin'? Reeee-hehehehehe! Ya'll laughed at me! Ya'll said I wuz crazy!

(My comments about the release date are taken from what people have been saying about this new "SOE talks about selling power" article, wherein people have pointed out that the game is slated for an early 2012 release date, and that SOE is evidently making sure not to break any more promises about releasing the game. I myself haven't read the article, but I read the thread of people discovering the tidbit and then confirming it. I would never post something that I just made up, or that i "hoped" was real. And of course, the point of this whole mad-cackling thread was to illustrate the overlap between what Gamestop told me about the game's release date and how this article evidently agrees with what I was told).

No higby hasn't. PCGamer said he said that, but when I asked him on Twitter he essentially said "news to me".

I'd bet good money that the game will not be released by March of 2012. I'll even give you 3-1 odds. If anything, that is probably a best case scenario, but in a game like PS2 where they are seemingly breakig so much new ground, I think 3/2012 is highly optimistic. I'll be happy if it gets released in 2012 at all.

So, until then Zach, I shall continue...ha....ha....ha ;)

They're aiming for a 2011 beta, so I'd be concerned if it was released later than the summer. Early 2012 doesn't seem out of the question if beta comes on time and everything goes smoothly.

I'm laughing too :D Basically, this thread was mostly to MAKE people laugh. Normally, I don't degenerate into the ragged-crazy-old-man voice unless absolutely necessary (ie- fun). But I'm encouraged to hear that the early 2012 release date was mentioned. However, if PC Gamer was just making up shit (ie- someone just posted that Higby said "news to me" about the date), well, that would be some seriously unacceptable journalism. Whichever the case, we'll see :D

Just how many people are working on this thing? I know that they are giving us a more bare bones working model of PS2 to start out with and will be implementing some of the features post launch, but it seems like they are blazing through production pretty quickly for all the work they still have to do.

Wasn't it still just a simple reskin of the first Planetside just a little while back at the beginning of this year? I'm sure they were able to keep a lot of those assets with a few minor changes made to them, like the mosquito, but damn. I hope they can retain a good portion of those people post launch. It would be awesome to see additional content being generated at that rate.

Levente: Welcome to the uniformed bunch, there is plenty of news that the game is going to be F2P. We just dont have the details yet (box price yes/no?)

release: something you guys seem to forget: a good dev doesnt announce a release date before they feel like they have a product ready to release. And you only know that deep in beta, once you have a happy bunch of testers. Therefore, any talk about a release date is simply a lie. They may aim for early 2011, but they dont know if they can keep that date. Beta will show...

I used to play the shit out of Mechwarrior 4 after I stopped playing Planetside as much.

I've tried downloading the free version, since I'm not sure where my disks got to, but I had run into some difficulties. I should try again.

I wonder if MW5 will be any good? I have a lot higher hopes for PS2 than MW5 at this point.

I doubt it will be that soon. I say summer at the earliest. Probably in time for kids to get out of school and waste all their time playing an MMO. March was probably just some internal milestone date they are aiming for.
