View Full Version : Working as an Empire vs a Squad
My question is to people in the same empires.
For myself and my Squad =DLR= What if say most of my squad was not online and I was would another squad let me hook up with then to help fight?
Reason I ask this is sometimes you get elitess BS where if you don't where a tag you can't fight with them.
I want to make sure that Emipres allow others to fight with them even if they are in different squads/clans.

Personally, I would PREFER that my own outfit groups with themselves, but that's only because I want the team to work well together in battles. It's good to have the same peeps fighting along side you.
On the other hand, there's no need to single out people because they aren't in your outfit. If you got extra space, use it. I'd just try to fill up existing space with outfit members first.

I have no useful or relevant information on this, but in the fine tradition of Internet discussions, I'll chime in anyway. ;)
I've only been in one Guild (on the RPG side) and no real clans (on the FPS side). Most of my experience is probably atypical in many ways.
The guild was a small EQ guild of real life friends, and we were always very open to grouping up with others.
My most clan-like experience is participating in BFE - Battle For Europe, an organized campaign for the Half-Life mod, Day of Defeat. It has clan-like aspects that I enjoy - practicing and working as a team, getting to know your teammates - but on a larger scale. The division I'm currently in has over one hundred members, which include folks in many clans.
Lastly, I'm older than the average FPS player, so I think that gives me a different view as well.
In general, I wouldn't expect it to be a big problem - there will always be pick up groups. If you are primarily looking to join a more organized group, I would expect most clans won't always be able to full out a squad, and recognize that most folks who are also in a clan get the concept of teamwork, so might be inclined to pick them up.
But, I am also sure that you will run into cliquish behavior. I hope and expect that it will be in the minority - I'd just ignore it when it happens and move on to trying to hook up with the next squad.

Sure you can, but you dont recieve as much experience because you are running around solo. Squads are temporary, so you can group up with some guys on the fly. Or start your own squad :p
as far as ATF goes, if ur on, and in our neighborhood, and u want to bring it w/ us, bring it.

Let me further clarify my position a bit...
I think it's GREAT to have other people join a squad that has our members in it. It's a great opportunity to meet up with some new players and possibly recruit a quality player.
What I'm saying is that MY OWN players should try to minimize grouping with others in "pub" fashion. We should all try to be working as a team. I think you'll see several of the outfits trying to promote teamwork in this way.

The only time when i would say that no non clan members should be in a squad is as a galaxy pilot. I know theres a grief system but 1 guy whose just got the cert could screw everyone.

depends if that other squad/clan would temperarily let you join them, you could tag along with them until they leave or you leave. it also depends if that squad/clan is nice enough to let you tag along
im sure that while you are playing EvE you can form squads of whoevers standing around at the moment....really wouldnt make sense that you had to sit and wait for the rest of your squad to get on.

I completely understand that clans would want to group together, perhaps to the point of refusing to join a partially full squad that has less slots open than the clan has members on at the time.
It makes perfect sense that if you have practiced together - or heck, even if you are just friends who haven't - you'd want to play together.

First we'll fill empty spots from the outfit and then from buddy lists, and then from any warm body that can type a response in chat. How far down the list we go depends on whether we really need to fill the spot.

well, i do agree with fire_monkey. first spots go to outfit members, second goes to loners.

It would only hurt the "1337" squad to not fill in their holes. I love seeing those a-hole clans get pwned. I know if I'm running 2 squads, and I'm 2 maxes and a pilot short on squad b, I'm picking up a) the first name I recognize or b) the first max or pilot out there looking for squad. I can always create a third squad if more clanners show up.

I'm going to have mostly covert/special-ops that take over 10-15 minutes to set up and the most dangerous (fun) part is over in about thirty seconds (if that). Most will take two or more squads working in tandem, so if you're patient and can follow directions, come on, we could use some help.
All I am saying really is I play for Squad =DLR=.
However if 95% of my squad is not on the server that night an alliance to ensure you can work with others seeing you are in the same empire would be nice.

I am glad I will be duoing or lone wolfing unless my outfit has needs of a medic/sniper so I wont have to worry. I will assume that most people are pretty good though and get the first MAX or fellow sniper willing to go around with me.

In SG we usually will let people tag along with us and almost always appriciate some help in ww2ol at least. I'm sure in PS we'll be looking for more help as the gameplay would be condusive to that. I know I'll be able to find other squads to work with when not many SG are online (which will be rarely).

Battles by neccessity will require teammates working together, with set strategies and positions. However, let's face it the more people you have the more cannonfodder you have, and if a squad has it's own set positions, then great but it will never hurt to have a few more people around to shoot/get shot at, even if they are working somewhat independently. Since experience is shared equally, and the commander of the squad/platoon will get his BEPs (maybe even more if he's commanding more people, don't know), then it seems like it can only help you, not hurt you.
