The American one. College, pro, fantasy. We're half way through it. Thoughts, complaints?

I'm Mr. West Coast, so Stanford's 3 OT win over USC was a cold hard classic. Ranked 4, I'm hoping Alambama/LSU this weekend throws one of the two down a notch enough to get Stanford into the top 3.

49ers are 6-1, only team with a higher win percentage is Green Bay. Sure we've had an easy schedule, but still....suppose we're carrying the weight for the rest of the NFC west.

Fantasy (The real reason why I wanted to post):
Aaron Rodgers QB
Reggie Wayne WR
Anquan Boldin WR
Dion Branch WR
Frank Gore RB
Ahmad Bradshaw RB
Jason Witten TE
Neil Rackers K
Buffalo Bills. D

Backups:
Darren Sproles RB
Brandon Lloyd WR
Tony Gonzales TE
Johnathon Stewart RB
Chicago D
Alex Smith QB

My recieving core sucks as I was banking on a Manning-Wayne pass happy season. Tomorrow I'm 4-4 ending number one's undefeated season.

Anyways I'm done Tebowing, what's your thoughts this season?

I'm still in shock that my 9ers are kicking so much ass this year. The rest of our season is mostly division games and considering how crappy the NFC West is this year, it looks like we are finally playoff bound again. Woohoo!
Hell, the 9ers haven't been 6-1 since Rice was on the team. Needless to say I'm loving the new Harbaugh era.

Stanford has been a good story too. I've won quite a bit of money thanks to Andrew Luck. That OT game against USC was classic. I hate everything about USC and have my entire life. Well I take that back, their cheerleaders are...well...10s to put it politely.

I pity those that aren't into the NFL. I like pretty much all sports. Soccer is cool. English Premier League is fun, but Barcelona is like watching poetry in motion. I can't get enough of Messi. NBA games are ok, but it looks like we'll have to wait next year for that. Hell, I'm a big fan of the Olympics because you get to see a bunch of obscure sports that you never usually get to watch.

Now is the time for football though. It's really the only thing that makes Mondays survivable haha

Phillip Rivers QB
Arian Foster RB
Matt Forte RB
Mike Williams (Tampa) WR
Nate Washington WR
Pierre Garcon WR
Jimmy Graham TE
******** D
Jason Hanson K

Backups:
Matt Stafford QB
Jermichael Finley TE
Joeseph Addai RB
BenJarvus Green-Ellis RB
Eric Decker WR
Jason Avant WR
Michael Jenkins WR

I'm in an 11 person league, so I had a bye the first week. Even with this team, I'm only 3-4. The D was the last thing I picked in the draft, so I'm pretty much stuck there. I've also surprisingly been starting Stafford most of the year over Rivers, but I still don't want the Lions in the Super Bowl.

For college, I mostly follow the Big 10 conference, but being from Iowa, I also have to follow the possible demise of the Big 12. That being said, I hope Nebraska gets destroyed the rest of the season. I don't think any of the teams in the Big 10 wanted them to join. I don't want them here. Any other conference willing to take Nebraska of our hands? Please?

I still can't get over the gigantic game of muscial chairs that college football is going through. The Big East alone is either going to die altogther or at least lose their automatic BCS bowl bid. I mean we have all kinds of schools moving into all different kinds of confrences and yet they still aren't a playoff system. It's a fucking joke. I just have faith that since the BCS is so completely and utterly retarded that someday in my lifetime we will see a playoff decide the national champion.

Lonehunter

Unless they figure out a way to make more money from a playoff system then they do now with the BCS, it probably won't happen.

I just found out the other day that Boise St has more wins (and most undefeated seasons) in the past 10 years then all of the big name schools, including every team that won a championship in those years. I know they have a weak schedule, but you'd think the team with the best win record over a decade would at least get a chance to prove themselves, but not in the BCS

BUGGER
2011-11-03, 10:08 PM
As much as I hate the blue turf, Boise to the BCS is like turning on ESPN to catch west coast sports, it's a fact of life....and it stupid. There should be some playoff system for the weeks leading up to the BCS bowl games. Yes Oregon and Auburn was sweet last year, but for 3 quarters those teams looked sloppy after a few off weeks.

And rid us of these lesser bowl games, how the hell many do we need?

Crazyduckling, trade one of those QB's, you'll get straight cash for one of those guys.

And I too am a fan of all sports, I love competition. Actually, I lie, I cannot take Tennis seriously. But every other sport from PGA to Nascar, I'll watch it over reality TV any day..

Everytime I watch March Madness I think of how much more awesome a college football tournament would be. The crazy thing about it is that they already have a 1 game playoff to decide the national champion. They just need to expand it. Hell they could even keep the major bowls as like the Final Four.

The BCS is just so retarded, someday they'll do away with it and let the final rankings be decided on the field just like every other sport in the world.

Backups:

Heath Miller (I may promote him)

I had Reggie Wayne, I dropped him last week, I'd rather bet on some potential sleepers than have dependable mediocrity.
I'm a bit Pack heavy, mostly unintentional, though it's my team. Their receivers are a bit of a crap shoot week to week because it's thrown all over the place.

That LSU/Bama game was a sleeper. My friend got his first career college TD for Cal, that was a big personal moment (some may know who Kapp is). Oregon/Stanford this weekend should be a big one.

I read the grand jury report. It's not, um, family friendly, to say the least.
As far as JoePa goes:
He might not have broken any laws...but he's a scumbag.

Basically in 2002 (after a previous incident had the charges dropped in 1998 and no one really knows why - the DA in that case actually went missing in 2005) this Graduate assistant went to Paterno after witnessing Sandusky raping a kid in the showers of a university facility. JoePa reported it to the AD...and it was covered up.

That's the problem - he reported it to the AD...the second time it happened! YOU GO TO THE FUCKING POLICE YOU PIECE OF SHIT. The only reason you don't go further than the internal boss is if you're not interested in it getting out. It's 100% an ass-covering move.

It's just like the Catholic Church scandals. "The bishop raped a kid, lets not go to the police, lets tell the archbishop so he can brush it under the rug"
[EDIT: Obviously the GA should have gone to the police...but as a graduate student myself, you're essentially the bottom of the totem pole as far as the university is concerned, especially outside the sciences. I can't imagine it was a very secure position]

College sports are full over secrets and cover ups for players' crimes and NCAA violations, it's wouldn't surprise me if worse things were lurking out there.

In better news:
I laid a righteous smack down in fantasy this week. 160 to 100 (we're PPR, so there's more points in general). 7-2 baby.

What ever happened at Penn State or any other university, with the wrongfully or justifiably accused, all this media whoring just needs to stop. I don't watch ESPN waiting for the next scandal to pop up. Pass that shit onto Fox News or something. It's really getting ridiculous

As far as the scumbaguos Joe Pa, he may have just been scared of losing his job. With a university as big as Penn State, breaking a story like this could kill your career, even if you're not at fault. The school and ESPECIALLY the GA who hid it from the police should be taking more responsibility and punishment in my opinion.

Oh really, the graduate assistant is more culpable than the face of a multi-million dollar collegiate sports machine? Joe gets off the hook because he might have lost his job? You don't think graduate assistant is and order of magnitude easier to fire than Joe-fucking-Paterno? Picked up Torrey Smith WR for Alex Smith QB. Fair pickup for now...

I have two "needs" on my team...A dependable second WR and a better flex guy.
The flex guy is typically one of the running backs I have based on match up and good for decent points no matter who I drop in.
But the second wideout is a total crap shoot. Early Dolcet seems to have snapped it up, by being predictably okish, for now over the completely unpredictable James Jones or Jon Bladwin...but I picked up Torrey Smith and dropped Jon Baldwin this week, just in case the guy proves more dependable than someone on the Cardinals...
which seems likely.

Jackie Battle worked out quite well for me that way. I grabbed him early, didn't play him but he really helped out in my big bye week.

I'm assuming you got that 14 or 13 point game from him. Starting him after those sub 5 point games is quite the gamble. Also, I'd keep James Jones in the roundup indefinitely. He may sometimes only get the breadcrumb passes from Rodgers, but there is always a chance to get a steak TD in Greenbay.

I know Joe Pa is a big target, but it is total bullshit how much he is being villianized when all the facts still are not in. If anybody on this planet deserved due process, it's Joe Pa.

To my understanding, it was NEVER reported to Joe Pa that a rape was witnessed. He was told that it was "horseplay" in the shower which is still disturbing but a far cry from sodomy.

Also, I understand that Joe Pa did report what he was told to the head of the Campus Police. He didn't cover it up, but this issue was for the school administration, not a coach.

I'm still extremely disappointed in Joe Pa and to his own admission he could have and should have done more. I certainly think he needs to go. The thing that upsets me is that he just announced that he was leaving at the end of the year, but he still gets fired now. The Board of Trustees even admit they don't yet have enough facts but they still throw Joe Pa under the bus.

If anybody deserved due process and the benefit of doubt until the facts are known, it should be Joe Paterno.

You're talking Battle? After he became the primary he's had 17, 9, 14 and 6.5. I only played him the week of the 14. He's not a regular starter for me.

Like I was saying my 2nd WR is a complete crap shoot. Jones had one catch last week, though it was for a TD...It was the only ball thrown his way. Smith on the other hand has had at least 3 catches the last 4 games. Doucet, while much more consistent than either, is up against Phily. Jones and Smith are up against Seattle and Minnesota respectively.
So I'm betting Torrey Smith this week.

The problem with the Packers is that their defense is suspect. If for some reason the offense isn't firing on all cylinders (a fumble here or a dropped pass there, a missed 3rd down conversion or 2) their defense won't be able to bail them out.

This is why my 49ers are going back to the Super Bowl. They have arguably the best defense in the league, and a fairly underrated offense. We only have 1 bullshit OT loss to the Cowboys and that garbage Thanksgiving game where we had 1.5 days to prepare since we had to travel cross country for a Thursday game against the #1 ranked team in the AFC.

Rodgers is putting up ungodly stats, but without a defense, it's a razors edge to lose to anybody. Perfect example, that Tampa Bay game came down to the very end. Good luck with that perfect season stuff though. It won't mean much unless you carry it through the playoffs, just ask Tigersmith.

About the 49ers. Alex smith just needs to take care of the damn football. God say it time after time. This is by far his best year ever and I believe also this is a team that can beat the packers..But not at lambeau field.

The Giants are the only ones who could keep up with the Packers, because surely their 28th ranked defense wouldn't slow them down.

A stat I read in the newspaper today, the 49ers defense is number 1 in fewest points allowed, followed by Houston and Baltimore. Might as well bench your runningbacks too, I forget what the stat for games with less than 100 yards rushing allowed is but it begins sometime last year.

If a NFC championship matchup comes up between the 49ers and Packers, a 49er pass defense will melt like butter in a microwave against Aaron Rodgers. Ironically, so would a Packer pass defense (31st behind New England).

I'm very curious to see how things play in the NFC. As far as the AFC....it would be very sweet to see the NFL's version of the Bay Bridge Series. But I'm sure there will be a familiar face come Feb.

I hate being right. Really I do.

I'm ok with going 18-1 as long as we win the Super Bowl. No one remembers what the Packers record was going into the playoffs last year. All they remember is that the Packers won the Super Bowl having to win three road games to even get there, knocking off Mike Vick, Matt Ryan and Jay Cutler to beat Ben Rothlesberger(sp?) for their 13th Championship.

Do I think they have all that it takes to go into the Playoffs unbeaten? Yes I do. Three of the next 4 games are at Lambeau in December. Oakland, Detroit and Chicago with us going to Kansas City. Oakland just came of an embarrassing loss to the Dolphins, so I'm expecting them to come to Lambeau next Sunday with a big chip on their shoulder. Detroit might present a problem, especially if Detroit is playing for a playoff spot. But the way that the Bears are playing (sans Cutler) I can see them sewing up a playoff spot before that game.

When they went with the decision to start Aaron Rodgers I fully supported it while my sister, mother and brother-in-law hated it. They argued over the way the Packers treated #4. I simply said that every thoroughbred needs to be put out to pasture, that eventually Father Time catches up with stars. The best thing #4 could have done was what Edgar Bennet did and move into the coaching realm or even go into broadcasting. But no. He sat there and whined, cried, and bemoaned an organization as classy as the Packers. Retired, unretired, retired, unretired, played for the Viqueens and shut us up for one year. The next year he was exposed for a dead arm and subsequently left the Viqueens the next year. And we celebrated a Super Bowl victory.

To this day I remind my family of what could have been had he still been a part of the Packers. We would have what the Colts have now.

Oh, and I should probably change my sig to officially being a part owner of the Packers. Yesterday I purchased stock in the Packers.

Yeah, I was actually pretty bummed when the 49ers drafted Alex Smith instead of Rodgers. Drafting Rodgers would have made so much more sense, he was a local kid that was playing at Cal. He actually played under center instead of that stupid Urban Meyer shotgun college crap. Smith had some things going for him to be sure, but even in hindsight, Rodgers was the better choice.

Now, it's interesting to think if the roles might be reversed a bit if Rodgers would have had to start right away and Smith could have held the clipboard and learned for a few years. Smith is finally having a great year. His stats may not be out of this world like Rodgers, but he has only thrown 2 picks all year and is winning games with a fairly no-name receiving core.

I really think it would be the ultimate if these 2 teams meet in the NFC Championship. (preferably at Candlestick)

I loathe the Cowboys almost as much as I hate the Bears and (to a lesser extent) the Viqueens.
Felt good last year to win THE Super Bowl in the house that Jerry built.

Many things done with your hands aren't right, but they sure are fun :)

When your arm is the exact length for it, why not hahah!

Speaking of teams we love to hate, I hate the Jets. Getting closer to the finish I hope the Raiders sneak into the wildcard or the Bronco's stop Tebowing for a little bit. I think it would be a great story to see both SF bay area teams make massive turnarounds.

And the Jets crash and burn, Rex Ryan is a tool, and his wife eats feet.

I've got a buddy that's a big Broncos fan, and I got into many a heated debate with him over the "who is a better QB? Montana or Elway" So, while I'm kind of getting a kick out of this Tebow magic that's happening against all odds, I'd like to be able to gloat that the 49ers are in the playoffs and not the donkeys.

I have no love or hate for the Jets, but that whole feet thing is just creepy funny. Did you ever see those videos? Ryan is a fat kinky freak.

It's hularious. HUUUlarious.

Well the Tebow magic ended. And the Greenbay freight train got derailed by a Kansas City penny.

Hate to double post and bump my own thread. But Drew Brees just became QB God.

Also, David Akers hold the 49ers season record for points scored. DAVID KICKINGSHIT AKERS SCORED MORE POINTS THEN THE BEST RECEIVER EVER TO PLAY THE GAME, JERRY RICE! Not to mention he'll surely have a foothold on most fieldgoals made AND attempted in the NFL. And he'll have a nice seasonal kicking stat for fieldgoals over 50 in a single season (he's made 7, the record is 8)

This is only the kicker of the 00'09' decade, so you know...don't fret...

I knew I should have drafted him like I've had the past 4 years.
