If that is really a Scyte, then i have to abadon my original plan.
That plan was to choose a main server with my guys and play VS there, and have a TR and NC alt on other servers. But now, i think i just gonan go VS on every server. :P
In other words: It looks freaking AWESOME!

Sorry if I haven't lurked deep enough to find the answer, but I'm wondering about the gun position. Although it looks cool to see guns not at the ready, what will the animation be when the trigger is pulled without going to iron sights? If one were to shoot from the hip, the system wouldn't know that until you clicked the mouse. Would the bullet leave the second you clicked and then the animation would lag behind? Or are these photos just for show and we'll be running around with guns up unless they are stowed?

I was wondering about that myself. No official word on that yet, but i guess you wont have to wait till your bullet leaves the barrel just because of the animation. I guess this may be the position you have while sprinting with a gun out. :)
Oh and it is a Scythe!

The Mossies have a VS colour scheme; Scythe isn't ready yet?
The concept art shows the structure that was being modelled in this picture:
http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=1693
TR Cycler variant; no barrel out the end of the casing so perhaps less accurate but higher ROF? Higher damage?
Captain B

Looks like the front end of the classic Cycler; maybe a drum magazine for extra bullets to make it the SMG and spray-and-pray variant? Either way, nice to see more than rifle and pistol from them.

Yeah, they did mention "Carbine" weapons, though we have yet to see if it's a weapon type, or the effect of regular Cycler customization. :)
Are those flares on the belt of the guy second from the left in the 2nd pic?
Flares, maybe - light is supposed to play a bigger role in PS2.
They may be something else though, and my money is on something health-related. It might be a pouch with 3 medkits, or a med-gun ammo. Even if the guy isn't equipped with these, it may just be a customization item, available to anyone.
Also, did the Mossies have that additional stabilizer, below the tip of the tail, before?
Furthermore, on the second screen. the guy on the right has got some weird, poor man's armor. Looks like what the second guy from the left is wearing, but he's also got a proper chest plate and proper shoulder pads on top of that.

@FirekGOG Carbine, medics and engineers use carbine or SMG variants of the assault rifles. Glad you're enjoying the new stuff!
So now we know. :) This also semi-confirms that the guys with heavier-looking armor (with forearm and leg armor) will probably be the Engineers.
I wonder how the Pulsar carbine will look, if what we saw on the trailer was the regular version. It looked pretty petite in the first place. It suits the puny VS overall, but I don't know what they can chop off to make it into a carbine... ;)

I also asked Higby if that's a comm/radar outpost or a radar tower. His response was that "it's a lot bigger than you think."
So if it's supposed to be big, then maybe the horizontal pads are meant for Galaxies? That may even be a dropship center and they may be used for spawning even the biggest of air vessels...

hmm, they also appear on one of the NC concept sketches. Similar armor layout to the TR soldier which makes me think it's a class specific item.

She looks like a medic to me, so those might be med-gun ammo packs. Red also fits the typical disposable flare design, though... :)
Higby told me in his last tweak that there is some stuff missing from the loadouts and this is all very work-in-progress, so we're obviously making assumptions out of nothing... Which I don't see any problem with, naturally! ;)

Can't say I'm too hyped about engineers and medics getting stuck with carbine variants of weapons. I would think one should find a preference in modifying a rifle into a carbine, not simply get stuck with one. Now, if I can modify BACK to a rifle, then it's okay I guess. The modifications to go back into a rifle will probably require sacrificing other modifications, which could be argued as balancing (a medic with the same killing/customization capacity as a light assault guy might be a bit much, I'll admit.)
I also really hope the extra armor padding isn't class specific, and they'll use other methods to determine a player's current class. Same goes for helmets/masks. I want a full helmet too :p
Yeah, I'm being needy. But I really don't want "cus-toe-mai-zay-shun" to boil down to choosing my class and fitting a sight/scope onto my weapon before entering the field of battle.

I am concerned after looking that Scythe concept.
I don' know if it has ever been clarified if it will be possible to look around from the cockpit, but if so those wings will be an obstruction. (And if it won't be possible, that's no good either)

TR Mossie: Most fastest
NC Reaver: Most armored
VS Scythe: Most maneuverable(can turn on a dime much quicker)
Is that a safe assumption to make?
But what is that object beside the Scythe?

the Scythe:
It has ZERO hardpoints for weapons, however the wings can be energized... forming giant vibro-blade type weapons so it can then ram other vehicles cutting them to shreds.

Not necessarily. If the cockpit eye-level is set to coincide with the chord of the wing it may obstruct as much as looking at a butter knife edge on. I do like having different visual patterns for each aircraft. In PS1, when it is dim out, every aircraft is suspicious until you put your cross-hairs on it to IFF.

So that BigFO tower in the concept art is the new air tower?
I would surely hope that it is a heck of a lot biger than what we had in Planetside... considering the posibility of 1000's of air vehicles landing (possibly repairing) and taking off.
We would however lose the puzzle minigame of how to fit max mosquitos and reavers on the tower roof.

I don't think we'd see a tower that holds thousands... a few dozen, maybe, though.
That base shield in one of those images looks rather pathetic IMHO - give me something like an eerie wall of fire any day :)
To clarify, I'd like a barrier that looks like a wall of flames corresponding in colour to each empire, which ripples when friendlies pass through it, and angrily deflects enemies like a proper forcefield.

All PlanetSide2 aircraft being able to travel super-sonic would be amazing. Plus...
the Scythe:
It has ZERO hardpoints for weapons, however the wings can be energized... forming giant vibro-blade type weapons so it can then ram other vehicles cutting them to shreds.... the Scythe being able to also travel at hyper-sonic speeds with this weapon would be like a missle. How awesome?!
Using up the energy for the 'hyper-sonic melee-missle attack' would only give two options left for the pilot to either fallback to regain gunner energy or super-sonic the hell out of there. I see that it could work! O_

I love how we are getting to see a lot of variance with different configurations of TR helmets and masks and goggles. It seems like you will really be able to find the look that suits you most, especially with the additional choices of the three empires.
Interesting that medics and engis will be limited to certain types of cycler variant. I hadn't consider this possible facet of balance options. Just goes to prove that they are keeping a close eye on everything, I just hope that it doesn't end up stifling customization options too much.
Bases and even towers are looking to be pretty epic. I'm so glad that towers are no longer cookie cutter variations on the same building.

I'm curious about people saying that Medics and Engineers (the class I intend to play) get Carbine variants of weapons. Where did we hear that? And what does "Carbine variant" entail, exactly? I am, however, encouraged at one of PC Gamer's previous articles wherein Higby said (using the Medic as an example) that he could spec his Medic to lean more into combat, and be more of a 50-50 split between combat and healing, or he could lean his Medic heavily into healing, and be something more like an 80-20 split between healing and combat. (those numbers are my own estimations, but that's a summary of what he was talking about).
I'm definitely in agreement that Light Assault should have more stopping power than Engineers and Medics (and that's in addition to them presumably being by FAR the most mobile infantry on the battlefield).
