It was said by several different people in the new thread, but i thought i'd make another one for the people that aren't so on the ball, and also so we can have a discussion about it.

Personally, i think it looks great. I really embodies the VS as the alien-heavy faction. In PS1 the VS seemed like a group of people who had found AT, and just started to use and follow it. Currently for PS2, it looks like this alien tech has much more influence on their culture as far as designs go, looking at the Max and the Scythe. They really seem to have their own design ideas, where as the NC and TR have their designs firmly in the 'human' camp. Not that there is anything wrong with that :)

Also, first thing that came to my mind when i saw it?

Massive props to T-Ray and the art team, the VS stuff is looking especially amazing.

Yea it was what i imagined it to sort of be, i thought it would have been more triangle wings rather than a curved(even with the name like Skythe[see what i did thar]) i figure it may still have the typical VS scaled design, but they maybe moving away from that to favor a more sleek look.

what do i think? we need a VS turnaround.

I really liked the look of the Wraith Dart in Stargate Atlantis actually, that would have been cool.

The thing i'm most looking forward to seeing is the weapons. Given that the aircraft look so different, i'm guessing the weapons will be very unique too. Which means lasers for the VS. Picture a few of those with giant Pulsar like cannons on them doing strafing runs across a base at night time.

Well I won't put too much in it until we see the actual Scythe.

It is still concept art and honestly I would say the concept art is meant primarily for the structure that is shown on it. Yes it could very well be concept for Scythe but it could also be just some simple art to create a atmosphere around the structure.

Guess we will hopefully get to see that when it is VS theme week. :)

I'm not even sure that is the scythe.

The base structure in the picture is supposed to be huge , the 2 landing platforms on either side a big enough for a galaxy to land . From the scale of the aircraft, which is even further away , it would make it 2-3 times the size of a galaxy.

I think its just a marker to give picture a more dynamic feel .

I just hope it doesn't end up looking *too* alien. The Vanu are human like everyone else, I don't think their designs should stray too far away from the "traditional" look of tanks and aircraft.

What we can't determine is how we'll look in the future, and so in PlanetSide the VS may still look very Homo-Sapien though the 'evolution' factor could be of their appearance and design which fits well in my idea of substituting what we may look like in the future.

Besides, it's just 'the future' and it's just awesomely futuristic of the VS's Scythe. :love:

That was pretty much my feeling as well. In the last game the VS armour just looked like standard tanks with some advanced alien tech bolted onto the side of it. Where as here, it looks like they've been built from the ground up with Alien tech.

VS are humans, but they are using alien technology. That alien technology was designed by aliens who may look very little like humans and their technology certainly doesn't line up with traditional human tech.

I think that the scythe having a more alien, cylon looking design is appropriate. Just so long as it has room for a human VS pilot inside, it can look like whatever, as long as it has a nice Vanu sense of style.

The humans have only been on the ground here for just shy of a thousand years, if i'm not mistaken? So the VS wouldn't have changed much, at least physically, in that time.

However, 1000 years ago in England we were still sitting in castles, running around murdering the French (Oh nostalgia.... :P) . So with the influence of Vanu, their culture would have changed alot in that time from the other two Human factions, which again, would really influence their design theory.

I could be wrong, we might draw our secondary weapons with our brand new tentacles that have appeared on our shoulder blades. Which would be amazing.

I thought SOE did a decent job of making their stuff look alien while making it obvious that it was still meant to be used by humans.

I found it interesting that many of us had the same mental image of what the VS fighter should look like. For example, when we found out the name was changed from "Dyson" to "Scythe" I think everybody approved because it fit better even though we still didn't know what it looked like. Then, when we saw the little fighter in the concept art, we seemed to just know that it was the Scythe. I don't think it's because we are a bunch of Battlestar Galactica fans. I just think sometimes a design is more discovered than it is created, and those are the best ones.

Its true, thats interesting.

I guess Scythe connotates to something sleek and curved, and then when we put those two adjectives into an aircraft with a sci-fi theme behind it, we all sort of came up with the same ideas, like the Cylons, Supreme Commander etc

I really like how it looks. As i said before, it doesn't look like human tech with Alien tech bolted on to it. It looks like its been designed with Alien Tech from the ground up, if you see what i mean. :)
