My money is on the Gauss Carbine. I suppose it might look like this if you de-bulked it. ;) Since the original rifle's barrel is pretty short, and with it being so HUGE, just shortening the barrel and body wouldn't make it into a carbine, unlike the sleek Cycler. If you remove excess weight and body parts from the Gauss, and you might end up with that thing. ;)

But on a note where I'm picing up things in the background - look at that tower... looking mighty familiar to the first structure we ever saw, and with the speculations that it is deployable. BUT that wall is connected to it, so what I'm now speculating is that gun towers on the corners of bases can be upgraded depending on the resources... OR it's a deployable tower/base/walls.

Planetside development started in 1999 under a different name. Halo was out 2 years before Planetside. Planetside armour is very similar to spartan armour and now with the introduction of regenerative sheilds it brings it more in line.

I'm pretty sure Halo was released a year or two before it, because I remember a friend showing me some stuff from Planetside shortly before Planetside was released (even though I didn't start playing until a few months after release) and thinking it looked a little like Halo, which I had been recently playing.

When I do that, I'm seeing the helmet as either being unnecessarily wide, or the chin of the soldier sticking down way below the bottom of the mask. It might just be an issue with the perspective in Maya though.

It is a slightly oddly proportioned helmet, but it isn't completely off either. Here is my quick attempt at showing how a head would fit inside it.

As for the Halo similarities...Planetside is a "space marine" game and all space marine stuff, be it games or movies or tv shows, all have some similarities. I don't think that should be a knock. That's like knocking baseball teams for having similar styles in their uniform design. (pssh same hat / socks / pants etc.)

Its not taking anything from Halo, Halo is completely unoriginal. Halo just uses standard armor suits found in a million other things. Spartan armor is very bland but being such a popular game it gets associated with this rather ordinary armor type for whatever reason. Enemies in Halo may be original but spartan suits are just beefier dirt bike pads and helmets, plenty of other games, cartoons, and shows/movies have used the exact same thing.

Glad PS is not goin the bland route like Halo. Always thought the spartan models were lame, boring, and cheapo. I was surprised they didnt evolve at all even with better tech to support the graphics in the sequels.

Im currently playing UT2k4 and the original UT while waiting for ps2 to come out ,both still great games. Halo has a lot of lore and books about it , I'm surprised there hasn't been an mmo about it, maybe with ps2 microsoft/bungie might prick up their ears about the possibilities .

This past week has just been proof that everything looks good in red and black.

first thing I've seen that is black and red , rest has been a mucky brown colour with the odd red flashings . The one thing we see in black in red will be, for most part, invisible anyway. Maybe mcg will be invisible too :eek:

Id just like to note that this is NOT necessarily how a cloaker will look.

This is the "infiltrator" we already know that not all of them will be able to cloak; customization may add some kind of additional armour to allow it to cloak.

When I do that, I'm seeing the helmet as either being unnecessarily wide, or the chin of the soldier sticking down way below the bottom of the mask. It might just be an issue with the perspective in Maya though.
I'm wondering if perhaps it's not a rexo helmet at all. If it were an agile helmet, I could see the chin coming down below what would then be a noseguard instead of a rebreather/chinstrap deal.

Nobody is saying Planetside copied Halo. Only people who have insane dislike of all things Halo seem to be drawing that conclusion.

Yes, they all draw heavy inspiration from Aliens as well. However, with it's brighter colors and similar release period to the original Halo, Planetside looks more like Halo than like Aliens. Again, it is not a Halo clone by any stretch of the imagination though.

Considering that segments of the community can't discuss the similarities like rational people, let's just drop the subject.
