When being asked at The 9th Digi China, TonyPark, the vice president of The9, claimed that Fire Fall and PlanetSide will be firstly launched on American market. After all the beta phases, then PlanetSide 2 will be shipping to China market. The first beta of PlanetSide 2 will be kicked off someday in Q1, 2012 .

Well lets take a look at it:

What we know is mostly done:


At least 2 Environments for the most part
Most basic TR Character Models are being finished up
Towers seem to be done
Facilities are just being textured, and are modeled.
TR vehicles and some neutral vehicles are at least beginning to be modelled or nearing completion.
The game is play-testable now.


What is still to be done:

Vanu Characters
Winter Enviroments
Variety of facilities
Balancing and Testing
Variety of Vehicles


Judging by the size of the team, i'm fairly optimistic end of December could happen. I'm sure they're holding back on a lot of things.

Unfortunately the buildings inside the bases don't just need texturing, I'm pretty sure Higby stated that most of the buildings were also just placeholder props (the little rectangular buildings, not the big structures).

But it seems to me like they have spread out their mapping, character modeling, vehicle modeling, etc very will. I'm sure they are flying along smoothly towards release.

They probably have a lot more work done on the NC and TR than we would think. They just deliberately are working to finish up the TR stuff so that they could give us a TR week. Some TR stuff still hasn't been shown and I'm sure that the difference in progress across the three empires is probably less than %30. The NC and VS just haven't received as much polish on as many of their things since they are still waiting on their respective theme weeks.

Still, I'm not holding my breath on a beta before the end of the year. Early 2012 is my current expectation, the earlier in 2012, the better.

Former Planetside players will "get taken care of." That's about all we know about beta. I don't think there has been any word one way or the other about one country getting beta access or another country not. Beta may start in US prior to other locations, but I'm pretty sure we haven't gotten any hard details.

I'm not saying it isn't clear that there will be large scale north american testing going on, just that it's unclear how much or little testing there will be outside the US.

Presumably they are marketing the game to other locations, so at the very least there should be a stress test available. I know that's not the same though.

By the way, does anyone have any idea how many servs will be up ?

I'm hoping to play on 'Emerald' anyway , but if they have a Euro server I hope it stays within soe , and not to some 3rd party running the servers. Warhammer online and codemasters running lotro come to mind as good examples of euros getting short end of the stick.
The9 running chinaside is only reason I bring this up.

*When* the beta happens (i.e. when it's ready) it will most likely start with an English beta.. that doesn't mean NA only though with other languages and locales to follow. Let us get the beta ready first. We have a ways to go.

Considering they prob started all the work on ps2 after march, when Smedley hinted at the new engine for it ,and all the shenannighans with the hacking fiasco , I'm amazed they have managed to show us what they have in 7/8 months.
Normal turnaround is usually like 2-3years , and thats for the ones that were released in a broken unplayable form until they patched it up 6 months later.
I'm really impressed, we must have a team of bionic devs , but when its ready it will be ready.

i think they would have started before that since they had vanguard and galaxy renders to display in jan 2011.

Yeah i don't really understand it either. I think he means English language first, and other languages afterwards. Not that i need to wait for other languages because i play every game in English since games dubbed/translated in Dutch are hilariously bad.
