View Full Version : Sunderer render!

Not my find, but it deserves its own thread in my opinion.
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/2006/2gmio.jpg

I hoped it would be tracked like an AAAV, but I likes what I sees. :) The front diff looks a bit exposed, but overall the Sundy looks like a badass, serious military vehicle, unlike PS1's bang bus.

Does anyone else get the feeling that it's amphibious? :)

Also, here's hoping that the midsection isn't just doors for MAXes, but extends into spawn tubes, making the Sundy a new AMS. OR, that part can be customized to either carry MAXes to turn the Sundy into an AMS.
I hope that PS2 won't be all about gals circling objectives...

Also, "Sunderer render" almost sounds like a tongue twister, doesn't it? ;)

I do hope that we can mod both Galaxies and Sunderers to be spawn locations.

Galaxy should be able to spawn people in midair while it is still flying and hotdrop them to the ground. Sunderer should have to deploy to spawn people, but get a cloak bubble like the PS1 Sunderer when it deploys.

Either that or the deployed Sunderer gets a choice between a cloak bubble, a protective shield, or a boost to it's firepower as optional modules.

Looks like troops enter and deploy from the rear. I'm betting the side doors (what appear to be side-doors anyway) either hold MAX suits or deploy into spawn tubes. I always thought the AMS should have transport capabilities myself.

They said we wouldn't have an AMS in PS2. They never said we wouldn't have a deployable spawn location.

I'm not too sure about the spawn tube idea, look at the steps underneath the big doors. As much as I would like to see the AMS all mixed up with the Sundy, I think thoses doors are simply going to slide up to let MAX units in. :(

Yeah, but we already know that vehicle and weapon variants can drastically affect how parts of the vehicle look.

My hope is still alive that we get an AMS Sunderer variant, assuming that the standard Sunderer isn't already a mobile spawn point.

It makes perfect sense. Half of the stuff they are removing, they are folding into something else as a variant. Having the only mobile spawn point being a Galaxy would be a huge shift, so we'll just have to wait for more info to find out if there are any land vehicles or engi deployables to bridge that gap.

Got to have a spawn point in the field, but the Gal is a big fat target and spawn on squad leader is an unlock; not every squad leader will have it.

I reckon the Deathbus will be able to spawn troops.

Reaction

Reaction to these accessories has been mixed. A columnist from Metro Silicon Valley wrote that she was "actually not sure whether or not this is a joke product, or if someone would really proudly display them".
Attempts at prohibition

In 2007, a proposal was made by Maryland delegate LeRoy E. Myers Jr. to "prohibit motorists from displaying anything resembling or depicting 'anatomically correct' or 'less than completely and opaquely covered' human or animal genitals, human buttocks or female breasts". He referred to the testicles as "vulgar and immoral," and stated that his proposal was made at the request of a constituent who was offended by the accessories. On January 15, 2008, Virginia Delegate Lionell Spruill proposed Bill HB1452, which would prohibit truck owners from displaying or otherwise equipping their vehicles with devices resembling human genitalia. In April 2008, Florida lawmakers have launched an attempt to ban truck nuts, making their display punishable by a $60 fine.

In 2011, a South Carolina woman was ticketed for adorning her truck with truck nuts. The case is pending trial.

so it may not be a good thing to do btw thats from the wikipedia

Looks nice though. I think I'd have preferred moving towards a more standard APC form like the LAV-25 or the Bradley, something with a medium turret on top, but this is a definite improvement on the old bus.

I approve of this vehicle. I'd like to see it next to a person though. It looks almost compact for a sundy.

Sidenote: I recall there being a point where the devs said the AMS functionality would be present on a new vehicle, so perhaps it is available on the sundy.

Ambivalent on truck nuts. Would consider purchasing a front bumper though. :P

They may have meant the Galaxies only, though. :(

Since they want to encourage a faster pace of play, I imagine they'll want to implement more spawn options than a Galaxy. Unless there's a way to get the Galaxy to circle the area without a pilot, some form of stationary ground deployable would be optimal, unless we're expected to bring a tower or two everywhere we go.

There are steps on the side, so probably not spawn point, but Max slot rather.

Would like custom camo/paint/decals from shop. Along with grills, fog lights, radar equipment, swappable gun layouts.

Talek Krell
2011-11-04, 11:31 PM
They may have meant the Galaxies only, though. :(It's a possibility, but given the difference in how that's going to work I can't see it counting as filling the same functionality. Fingers crossed that it's not just Gals anyway. I love that they spawn but I don't want it to be just them.

That doesn't look, to me, like something any of the planes would be able to destroy with ease. Even more difficult than the Sunderer in PS1. Which would make it more useful.

The front axle is just beautiful.

Wow, it looks good. It seems to have taken some design lines from the Deliverer and merged them into a larger vehicle.

Tribute to Fisa's designs ?

Anyways, back to PS2: I'm waiting to hear more about the gamedesign/playstyle concept behind that transport vehicle. They were sub-par in PS1 for many reasons (exception made of the deli variants guns made OP to compensate).

Yeah, a troop transport that actually survived to transport the troops to where they could do something other than fatten yet another vehicle's XP would have been a FANTASTIC addition to the game.

If the suckers were completely unarmed, and had about three times the armor, they would have been more useful. But, as you said, having some of them with OP weapons to make up for their papier-mache armor wasn't balanced for what they were supposed to be.

I have an extremely fond memory of loading up a Levi with a full crew and 2 starfires and kicking the crap out of MBTs, reavers, and anything else we ran into while harassing the back lines of a NC TR fight. I really hope to be able to do similar things with this one but I'm not seeing hard points for weapons just the slits on the back of the bus. I know there was some talk about allowing people to fire out of the Sundy with their own weapons but I don't know if that was idle chatter or something that would actually happen. I really hope it's something that actually happens as I'd love to roll around with a trunk full of lancer users, maybe even have mines be deployable by engies while we roll along. I know in BF2 I used to drop land mines from helicopters.
Maxs shouldn't be able to fire without getting out.

A half-tracked giant '66 Parisienne with 40mm gun would be cool to have as NC. Armor plate with slits for windows. 40mm sticking through a vertical slot in the front wind "shield".

I'd cert that for sure. Especially with a gigantic sound system. Again, whether anyone else could hear my sound track wouldn't matter. They would hear the clank-clank-clank-squeak-squeak-squeak and VROOOM and 3/4 race cam idle.

I just don't know how thrilled anyone else would be to see that in the game. Sure fits the "put together from whatever" urban-warfare theme. I don't know about how many 1966 Parisiennes would be around then, but who knows, could be a new retro movement.

Vehicle animation is nice, but after the first tree times, I think it just slows the game play.
I don't know how they looked in PS, but in Red Orchestra 2, there is an animation when you switch places inside the tank, ans it's just annoying to wait for it to end.

Just played some BF3. I wonder if the Sunderer will allow spawning on the move, like the Galaxy most likely will, and how BF3's AAV does...

I imagine that spawning in a galaxy (and by extension the sunderer, if it allows spawning) will be similar to boarding the vehicle to get transported around, except that you spawn into it instead of entering it on the ground.

If that is the case, it would make sense that you could spawn on the move, so long as there was the ability to exit the sunderer while it's driving.

That would also be pretty awesome if you could spawn into the sunderer while it was driving, but not be forced to exit if you didn't want to and there was still room in the sunderer. Just spawn into it, pull out your gun and go.

Makes me wonder. If you can spawn into a sunderer and you can pick your loadout when you spawn in and if you can fire your infantry weapons from inside the sunderer, will we be able to swap out to whichever weapons we need at any time? Like if I'm shooting some AI HA weapons and then see an enemy vehicle or MAX, can I just reequip myself instantly right there in the sunderer and switch to AV HA?

I don't know how they looked in PS

Then how would you know what they did to gameplay?

They add a realistic delay between pushing the "get in" button and getting in. The moment you push the button, you are as if you are in the vehicle for hitpoints, etc, so it doesn't cost you safety.

But seeing people just vanish while standing beside a vehicle? Where'd they go?
