Since the new game is hotting up and hopefully beta is just around the corner what are the plans for the current game? pops are at an all time low right now and i think offering a free time period to get people back playing and pushing PS2 is a wicked idea. New players need to experience the old game instead of jumping into the 2nd game right?
i wounder if higby or Tray will comment on this.
discuss.
No I do not want new players seeing PS in its current state. That only gives the wrong impressions of ps2.

But if they make it free to play... get the pops up to atleast 150 a side (which I think will be easily acheiveable) it will help ps2's name out a lot.

Replace all the billboards with bigger ones that say Subscribe NOW! to Planetside 2! What the heck? If people still play, they play.

Goku is right, you don't want to lessen the Shock and Awe Value of Planetside 2. I think Free play could be a cool send off celebration but with how fickle gamers are today many people will look at planetside and only see "dated"
They are wrong of course, but then again I'm nostalgic.
Everything must come to an End. I'm just happy we have a wonderful sequel to replace it with. It's shaping up to be everything we could hope for and a fitting tribute to the original game.

Format C: is the only way forward
Whilst it would be nice to see large battles again it would do more harm than good as a lot of gamers can't get past the graphics to see the vision or potential.
True Neph. There is still a part of me that thinks PS still has good graphics considering the level of battles that went on back in the day. I guess the style of the graphics helped me still think that.
There was free time given over the summer. Even though we had 5 servers merged together with at one point said to be 50K+ subs at prime there wasn't much action going on. Yes there was a poplock here and there, but nothing earth shattering like it should of been. That is why even if SOE activated the old accounts I do not think much anyone came back. If they attempted to advertise a F2P PS I would still rather them put that money towards advertising PS2. PS2 is what has to be a success story here. Given the flop that BF3 was for many gamers (what I see from forums) and MW3 just being fail on PC, I can see PS2 getting a lot of attention. Especially if it is on Steam lol.

Hopefully they dont get retarded like EA, I refuse to use that Origin crap, sux i'll have to have it for SWTOR, after a little bit of BF3 i deleted that horrible thing off my HD completely.
DCUO is already on steam (another SoE mmo) so I see no conflict with their current system as far as it fitting in with their way of doin mmo's with updates and cash shops etc. Plus steam is great for marketing on the pc, no real gamer doesnt have it.
My thoughts exactly. I had no problem using Origin for BF3, but Steam makes most sense for PS2 due to what you mentioned. SOE tried getting PS on Steam years back around the time of Fodderside I think. Nothing came of the deal. I am still unsure as to what happened there unless the higher ups had no interest in doing so. This was prior to any kind of SOE game being on Steam too.

The more the merrier, IMO.
Also, quit complaining about Origin. It is not horrible, it works just like Steam. Everyone is just showing fanboyism for Steam. So what if a company wants to get people to use their application? It's called getting a profit.

PS1 is as good as dead come PS2. In true Sony fashion, no backwards compatibility.

Is it really fanboyism that someone prefers one application over another ?

No, it isn't fanboyism if they prefer one to the other. It IS fanboyism when they say Origin is a hulking pile of shit compared to Steam without ever giving a reason.

But it wasn't free time over the summer. It was 45 free days that started in what like April-ish or March and went through the end of summer. Hell I logged on got distracted with real life and was playing Rift and missed out on my entire 45 days, happened to quite a few people. If the free time didn't expire for many of those people when other joined in there would have been more people and the pop would have grown.
I heard so many times things like "well it was fun, brings me back, i'd love to play but i'm not paying a sub for the way it is now".
As far as hackerside, just make it a $15-$20 one time fee to register a new account and all other accounts in good standing are free. There were a few instances of hackers who must have had temporary bans come in during that free time but it was a far cry from the days of Trials.

I logged into my account today to see if it was F2P yet.
Just wanted a check it out again for a couple of weeks.
Is the My Stats page down http://myplanetside.station.sony.com/my_stats.jsp
or only accessible if you have an active account?

I have one! It has a really shit interface, it's clunky as hell, and it's slow as shit. At least from my experience. Most people seem to agree with that, and that's why they remove it and go back to Steam.
I don't do it because I'm a Steam fanboy, in fact, I hate Steam too, but Origin is a load of garbage.

Steam sucked donkeyballs when it first came too. Nowadays it works nicely and I actually don't even mind running it on the background. In fact, it's the primary way I talk with my gaming buddies.
Origin, while I don't see it that bad, has just about nothing good to it either.

If there's one good thing about Origin is that it's taking up less than half the VM that Steam is right now

Yeah, nowadays I think it's brilliant in most ways, except it charges crazy prices for certain countries, so for example I have no point in buying any games from there when I can get them 50-60% cheaper elsewhere (or by having someone from UK gift it to me and pay them outside Steam).
I would be really sad to see Steam go, does so many things so well. I wonder if Origin will ever have the selection of games to make it as dominant as Steam is.

the main reason why i will never ever install origin is the EULA!
it´s like you are signing that everything on your harddrive belongs to EA now and they can do with it what they want.
