View Full Version : Things about Battlefield 3 you would like to see in PS2

It's pretty obvious that our beloved SOE overlords are very fond of the Battlefield series, BF3 included, and that this series influences PlanetSide 2 to some extent.

Only people who have played BF3 for more than 1 hour should participate in the discussion, for obvious reasons. So, aside from destructible environments, what do you like about BF3 so much that you would like it implemented in PS2 (with some tweaks, if needed)?

Personally, I like:

1) The AAV amtrac heavy transport acting as a mobile, ground-based spawn point.
The idea of Galaxies in PS2 acting as airborne spawn points is obviously based off BFBC2's helicopters serving the same purpose, so I'm quietly hoping that the Sunderer will work like BF3's AAV. The fact that it looks amphibious, and that it seems to be lightly armed, if at all, suggests that it will fill the same role.
It could either spawn people on the move, or deploy a shield bubble and act as an AMS. This could require resource-based customization if it proves to be very effective (but not OP) in beta.

2) Spotting.
It works really great in BF3 and lets you point out targets in a very convenient way, without wasting precious time trying to describe their location via voice chat. It's like an in-game equivalent of pointing a finger at someone.
It also lets specialized anti-air or anti-vehicle units know where they might be needed.

3) Having multiple spawn points to choose from.
This is something I never really liked about PS1 - you were stuck with one base, one tower, one AMS and (optionally) one base you were bound to, when selecting a spawn point.
I hope that we will be able to see a lot more options in the sequel, like 5 of each type, so we can make use of more conveniently placed Galaxies, AMSs (if available) and facilities.

4) Not so much spam weaponry.
Imagine what Conquest mode on Operation Métro would look like if both sides had Thumpers. ;)
The only spam weapons in BF3 - grenades, grenade launchers and rocket launchers - are slow-firing and have very limited ammunition. In choke points, this gives attackers some room to break through the spam and assault the defenders.

5) Two-seater attack aircraft.
Choppers are really cool in BF3 and one of the coolest things about them is being able to engage two targets at once, or working together on one of them.
The weapons mounted on the Mosquito and Reaver look like they're supposed to be turrets, and there's enough room under both aircrafts' canopies to fit two people, so I'm sure that the cannon can either fire straight if there's only one pilot, or be operated as a turret by the copilot.

6) Amazing character animations.
Thos goes both for first-person and third-person animations. Both look incredible in BF3, from running to dropping down dead. I hope BF3's animations will at least come close to Battlefield's. :)

7) Great ambient noise and varied voices.
The ambient noise in BF3 sets a great mood, and varied voices (automated, action-based, spotting-based) make the game seem more alive. It's also pretty cool that it's not always the same line, but anything from "They've got me pinned down!" to "I'm getting f***ed up the ass over here!", for the same situation. Variety is great.
I hope PS2 follows this route, and maybe adds some more voices, but that would just be a luxury. One voice for a male and one for a female would be fine too, as long as the dialogue is varied.

agree with most of these. specially on the points 1,2,4, and 6. 3 is meh. there needs some sanity about spawns, or else it will be chaos. Taking a base will be impossible, all the fighting will be more spread out (im assuming), point 5, thats the role that the lib will fill now, more of a air to ground multi person gunship, while the others will remain air to air focused (im assuming this aswell). 7 we could do without, the auto voices should real people, instead of AI saying it. but the gamesounds are great, i agree with you there

edit: sorry for the lack of punctuation and organization, I typed this up at 230 AM
