In case you missed it in the AGN forum: Higby will be joining us live on the air on AGN tonight via Skype! Be sure to tune in... ;)

What time and how long do these run?
Hamma
2011-11-19, 03:02 PM
7PM Central tonight, they run for "about" an hour usually. About 5 hours from now.. ;)

Do we have some questions lined up? I know there have been several new questions popping up recently, although with my memory I couldn't tell you what most of them were.
I'd love to get some more info on cloakers. How visible are they when holding a rifle? Standing still? Running? Shooting? How much more visible when holding a sniper rifle?
Look forward to listening in. I missed the last one unfortunately, but I should be around for this one.
Edit: Just read more on that cloaker/sniper thread. Still, more info wouldn't go amiss. Limited cloak time eh? I wonder if all cloaking will be that way or if we will have options. Maybe the time limit cloaking is the only one snipers can use, while regular cloakers will have a choice between the more PS1 style and the more Crysis style.
Sort of like how you can choose the different styles of invisibility watch in TF2.
Hmm, I might be able to listen in then. Where are these posted?
How do we connect via Skype?

How do we connect via Skype?
You dont?
Just kick one of the quadrillion links to the show. Like this one: http://pside.co/agntvlive
Xyn: Apperently Higgels apperance is a last minute decision. No specific questions for him, but this is no "Ask the devs" tonight anyway. Its Community night, and we just ask him stuff on topic, but focus on the dicsussion. Well at leasts thats what i think we should do. :>

Not certain a dev has appeared on an AGN broadcast before. So this is experimental. Stand back, he might blow! :P

Back for PlanetSide 1 we had monthly ask the devs sessions with Smokejumper.
But this is a bit different with video, and show format. We will see how it goes and try to stay on topic. ;)

Very much so, I loved the pools of light in the cy during the night cycle. Imagine a cloaker infiltrating the base by making use of the areas of darkness... But seriously, the lighting system could add a whole other level of depth to the game, damn.

That was great, thanks to all those getting it all in place (going to have to make sure I catch the next one, even if it means another 3am finish =) )
And echoing those thoughts during the broadcast, getting shot at will be a small price to pay to watch the sun set in the game =D
Was good to see the "pace" of gameplay (i.e. TTK) mentioned briefly - and Matt H. allaying my fears of instagibbing the moment more than 2 people start shooting in the vague direction of you.

Worth noting, he stated later on that he set the speed to 100x the current rate but that original rate is still up in the air. If that is the case, the current cycle roughly translates to about 75 minutes from sunrise to sunset and then about 50 minutes between sunset and sunrise based on approximately 45 seconds/30 seconds respectively. Seems a bit too frequent of a change to me but it would be tough to extend it too much while making sure night-time isn't overly long. You could experiment with a binary star system but I'm pretty sure those don't generally bode well for anything nearby due to all sorts of radiation and insane gravitational tidal forces.
I suppose if Auraxis was a smaller planet that rotated quickly you could see a frequent day/night schedule but I would rather have a longer day/night cycle that is synchronized between the continents according to their location on the surface and the relative location of the star(s)/moon(s). This would allow you to have less frequent changes between day/night while allowing players to go to a new battle if they absolutely can't stand one or the other, and you could set up continental terrain based on global location i.e. snowy areas farther north/south, rainforest/jungle/desert environments at the equator, and normal forests and grassy plains in the temperate areas.

We're planning on messing around with moonlight to make it so that nights are variable based on the rotation of the moon(s), sometimes it'll be very dark, sometimes one moon will be out so it'll be somewhat dark, maybe even having two moons periodically so it's twilightish.

Depending on how much control you all have, you could have a lunar cycle similar to our own where the angle between you, the moon, and the star would create a pre-determined fraction of the moon actually reflecting light. Regular lunar cycle(s) + multiple moons (potential future contestable territory!) + dynamic weather/cloud system = high variety of visibility with the potential for strategic predictability = :jawdrop:
All I will ask is that on the darkest and clearest of nights, have a legit skyscape with distant stars/galaxies/nebulae for ogling. This could also be toyed with should there be an event related to the wormhole or a 4th faction invasion.
You also mentioned flares. Will said flares have the ability to damage infantry or disrupt an air vehicle mid-flight? Can flares be strategically destroyed if someone has the skill to shoot it down? Will you let us fire them indoors for general confusion and hilarity?

Unfortunately the AGN stream wasn't high enough rez to read anything on the terminal screen. It does give us a peek into the style of UI they're using tho.

My god, do you even imagine what it feels like being us?
I mean, lets face it: Before Smeds tweet "Planetside Next, you will like", nobody of us even remotly considered the potential coming of a sequel to Planetside. We didnt have hopes, we didnt have dreams, but then suddenly it was there.
Now, instead of just giving us a common game that is actually a MMOFPS (that itself would be epic), you guys just go out and crank all crazy tech in that game, making it look absolutly awesome, and on top of that be completly active with and especialy within the community, listen to our feedback, talk with us and just randomly giving us a few secs of footage recorded with an ipad, broadcasted live via skype.
Someone hit me with a shovel already, i must be in a coma sleeping or something. :D

Gotta agree with you on this one  wholeheartedly.
And that sweet footage. I mean, seriously, is this game really F2P + MMOFPS? Seriously? With this level of insane quality and scale?
(and no, I'm no SOE fanboi myself and have played/seen enough Crysis, Crysis texture pack modes, Rage's jackal canyon and Battlefield3 on extreme setting)

Yes, I too agree. Mr. Higby, thank you very very very much for keeping the communication channels open with the peeps here at PSU and for frequently feeding us little PS2 tidbits as time/NDA's lunchtime whims allow. :p
I mean... You're NC, so of course you have to die... But don't take that to mean we don't appreciate what you've done for the PSU community...

Amazing show! :D
It's definitely a treat to see Higby, TRay and some of the crew. I really enjoyed how much it felt like they truly love talking to the community. You just don't see that very often, a more personal feeling between game developers and their community.
Still can't get enough of that in-game showing. It was beYOND gorgeous! ^.^ Thank you for showing us! Love you guys! Keep up the amazing work. =]]
Really enjoyed the show last night - so glad I stayed up to watch (i live in Scotland). Also cool to hear my name being read out by TRay as the 1000th follower. Would like to thank the PSU guys for all their efforts - it is really very much appreciated. Also thanks to the SOE guys for making the show fantastic - hopefully with more SOE guys on the show in future, the AGN will grow and grow.

I'm sure everyone did, we are just kind enough not to pick on him cos he was seeing all the effort to stream it to us through his iPad.
So instead of picking on Higby for that, we will just continue to bash Hamma for his inability to fly :D
Wonder what was the weapon he had though? He flew a mossie, so perhaps a TR character.. The weapon looked fairly small though, perhaps Suppressor? Then again, I saw red on the weapon, perhaps Cycler? The weapon also had a foregrip which none of the weapons seen so far has had, but I'm dead certain that can be added to Cycler and Gauss Rifle with the customization system. Recoil was also really low, which could point towards a Suppressor.
