I was wondering whether there is a chance for NC soldiers to have a bit less worn out armor, even if the discussion sort of derailed from that. Not sure if theres anything actually new here, but I thought I'd just share it anyways:

@PS_TRay I know you think we NC are dirty and all, but do you think we will get a chance to have a bit less worn out armor somehow in PS2?:D

@Coreldan r u not concerned with consistency?

@PS_TRay I know efficiency wouldn't be effected. But would still be nice to have an option for less worn out gear. We only get 50% paint! :D

@Coreldan not true all paint jobs have a customizable paint scheme U determine where the paint goes

@Coreldan The paint schemes you see in the screenshot are our most basic tints you will be able to put different patterns and colors on urs

@PS_TRay I appreciate the answer. Would all the paint schemes look equally worn out though?

@Coreldan there are two levels of damage that we are talking about the player can only affect one "paint" the metal cant be altered

I think what he's saying is the the textures for the armor will remain the same but you can alter the paint scheme.
So far I've seen different camos for various vehicles..I wonder if we'll be able to go full out on the paint jobs and paint a bright pink Vanny. Or maybe colors are only limited to your empires main colors, maybe a few different shades. Either way vehicle customization seems really awesome. The only way you had to distinguish your outfit from others was a stock empire emblem that a handful of people before you probably already have, so there wasn't much individuality.
Setting aside the plethora of dick pictures as they were talking about on AGN, that I'm sure we'll see...I'm looking forward to all the custom emblems people will be able to make.
Even if it's just simple symbols and backgrounds that you can mix and match ala Halo multiplayer, people can still come up with really cool emblems.

Yeah.. All I just wanted was less worn out armor textures. Just compared TR armor screenies to NC armor screenies. Many of the NC pics show that fe. even like half of a wristguards paint has worn off. Same goes for the vannies, they look like they've been to hell and back.
I just find the wear & tear a bit over the top and would at least like an option to have a bit better condition armor, even if it's just visual.
EDIT: Ok, half is an overexaggeration, but for example look at this picture:

I think it's ok that especially lower rank armor has scratches and small areas that lack paint, but fe. the "wristarmor" and "thigharmor" lack a considerable amount of paint and that is what I find just a bit too much.

It's just the empire's style this time around. They're supposed to be using the scraps of other empires and sloppily throwing it all together to stay competent.
I like all the armor's so far. Each of them are very distinctive and different from one another aesthetically. In PS1 the only real major different was the color scheme. It might just be the fact that we're in the much newer phase of technology and they're capable of so much more detail than they were before.
I'm still very anxious to see what VS armor looks like. If it at all resembles what the concept art for what the MAX looked like then I'm stoked.

Seriously, T-Ray, don't let us down.

Have you seen this in terms of VS armor? Opening the picture makes it much larger.

And as said, I'm mostly OK with worn equipment for NC, but just a bit too much for my taste. Especially since lorewise the NC can also be mercenaries, what is to stop them from getting less worn out gear if they have the $$$$ :D
In that picture too, a damn 1/4th of the paint is missing on the leg armor :D

Look at it this way.
Maybe you can pick up one of those TR weapons off the battle ground. Considering it has only been fired and dropped once, presto you got your new look.
I am willing to bet you can probably get a NC customization out of the cash store that will give you something close to the just off the assembly line look you want.
Have faith, we have a long ways to go to launch.

I've seen that pic and the base armor certainly looks cool. But I was really hoping we'd see the VS helmets or more elaborate armor for T-Ray's 1k tweet post. It looks like we're looking at standard PJ armor or maybe Light Assault.
Not to sound ungrateful or anything, but I was just expecting more.

Not concerned about the weapons, just certain parts of the armor we've seen in the screenies that are extremely worn out.
And I do have faith too, which is why I asked him the first place :D And doesn't quite have to be assembly line either. Some of the close up shots of TR soldiers show a good amount of wear & tear. Looks realistic without going over the top. Then again, it could be the colour pallette too. They had like metal colour next to gray, while the worn out metal colour shows next to blue and yellow for NC :D

I am on the complete other end of the spectrum here.
To me the worn and roughed up armor looks great, I like the idea that the NC truly do have the guerrilla pick it up and use it mentality. Personally, the look alone has pretty much been the final touch that has made the NC my favorite faction by far.

Yeah, I definitely know where you are coming from. I love the NC lore but I always saw myself in the "soldier for the money and freedom" spectrum of the NC troops, not so much for the guerilla factor. I also liked the uniform alot in PS1 where it wasnt really worn out and it suited me just fine.
Currently for my taste, it looks a bit too much like the guerilla-style. I can see a lot of NC players like it, but somehow for me it's just too guerilla/hobo/scavenge what you can-mentality at the moment.
It somehow actually bothers me surprisingly much, I'm even surprised myself. I did even consider going TR instead, cos as said, I didn't really select NC for the guerilla-style.
But I've checked like all the NC photos available now and I've seen that not all armors look as worn out and it seems you can even customize the character pretty far in terms how many armor plates it seems to have. Overall I'm likely to stay NC (also cos of the outfit most likely going NC), but some of the screenshots it does disturb be how worn out some of them are :D

I prefer the dingy look. If anything, the FNG's should have the shiny new paint jobs. By max BR, all of our equipment should look well used and battle tested to show our veteran status.

If a game (Brink comes to mind) offers some customization, but not overly much, I usually pick the dinged and a bit worn out looks rather than the assembly line look, but it's just a fine line for me when it's too much :D

From a story perspective it is a bit strange, that an empire that can field high-tech weaponry such as a Gauss rifle, can't keep basic paint levels up to par.
To me, the NC are not some underfunded guerrilla fighters. That doesn't make any sense, the higher ranks are CEOs and such, they know how to turn a buck. The NC's problem, is not having the infrastructure that the TR has, or the ultra high-tech laboratories the VS have.
So basically..
NC = Money
VS = High-technology
TR = Infrastructure
