Let's face it, a lot of people here plan to reactivate their PS account just for the chance that it gets you into the beta (as per Smed's comments) so why not just call it what it is and sell access. I'd pay.

I wouldn't......Okay, just kidding I would totally pay.
But I don't really want to...I'd like for the people who've been subscribed for awhile now and remained loyal to be rewarded for it.

Still subbed, and staying subbed. Not just for beta, but also for the PS action from time to time. :>

Honestly I would resub in a heartbeat, if there was enough action on most nights to justify it.
I really wish they would or could come up with something that would drum up some more interest in people playing ps1 again untill ps2 comes out.
Maybe something like dropping the monthly sub to like 5.99 or something?

I'm the same way, and have expressed same concern. As a college student, I don't have the funds to keep paying for something I don't regularly enjoy. I think 7 years of paying nearly non-stop is enough to justify a beta invite.

Yah its kinda a catch 22 right now.
The game really needs a lot of players to make a fun every night kinda game for me.
I mean the game for the most part honestly is on life support right now, sub 's aren't going to make or break the decision to pull the plug on the servers or anything, so maybe a reduction in sub price might bring a lot of people back just because of the hey its cheap and why not kinda feeling, and help generate more of a fanbase of the upcoming title.

It really is a catch 22. Most people don't justify the price because people aren't online. But people won't be online if people don't pay the price...
Reducing it to $5-$6 and I would sub in a heartbeat, even with no one paying. Do I have a McDonalds cheeseburger or two, or do I sub for PS for a whole month? Hrm....
Planetside is only good if people are playing. Encourage people to pay!

i'd pay for beta access, i'd keep my PS1 account active, but i cant really justify it since i don't play as much anymore(if at all right now).

In a way I guess it can be seen as sort of cheap, but if players want it, it creates revenue, why not? And let's face it. Majority of big games so far have done it ("pre order this super deluxe pack now that costs 3 times more to get beta access as a freebie!").
Hell, just do it that way. Sell us collectors editions with some fancy crap with it and a beta access, no one will complain :D
I would love to be subbed to Planetside, but even if I love the game I know I would only occasionally pop in, but being a poor student atm I really can't afford having a 15€ sub running for just to play a few times a months, so I'm even sorta taking the risk of screwing up my chances for beta by not being subbed. I would pay 15€ for a beta access in a heartbeat, but 15€ a month for an undefined time that may not even guarantee me the beta access? Can't afford :D

Throw in a cool TR cap and shirt and I'm in for that beta purchase collectors edition!

honestly i dont find it cheap selling a a collectors edition with beta access, they can tie it in with their F2P model by saying you get "elite soldier status" or some shit that gives a bonus. Hi Rez has the elite soldier style stuff with Global Agenda, and are doing it with Tribes. It's a source or revenue for the company, which helps them and makes us happy.
and with a game of this scale, they'll need mass amounts of players to test it.

Fully agree with what has been said. I haven't full-timed subbed for years and I probably would just to gain beta access.
However, I don't fancy doing it for an indefinite ammount of time for something i'll use very little.
I would much prefer to pre-order the game and get beta access.

I would never pay to get in a beta, the testers are doing the company a favor by finding exploits/glitches/bugs by testing that they may have over looked.
To pay to get into a beta is a incredibly cheap move. I would be embarrassed if I charged people for access to a beta.
Mind you, Im currently subbed to PS, but not for the beta alone, I enjoy playing the game from time to time :)

it's been said the current planetside players will get into beta. this will probably be the current subscribers and aside from our weekly ps night it's the only reason that I'm still subbed
Draep

I imagine they will need many more than the current subscribers to fill the closed beta. I then imagine that they will reach out to former subscribers.

We really need clarification how beta invites are going to be handled.

They'll never do it. They're making money on just the rumor that Beta is starting soon, why would they spoil it by giving an exact date.
That said, I'd pay. ;)

Paying money for a hacker ridden game which is a shell of it's former self just for beta access is pretty bad.
Plenty of people will get in who aren't currently subscribers to PS1. I mean I know we all trust SoE and such around here because they've never lied, have always kept our account information secure, and have never, ever killed their own franchises but let's not get too carried away with ourselves alright?

And you all know that you don't want beta to actually walk around the map testing every rock and object for geometry glitches, you want to play that game. That's all.
Won't lie, that's pretty much me too... but I'll be 'stress testing' it while I am! :D

Gameplay and balance needs to be tested in PS2, test by playing normally.

If it were the first item offered on the Station Cash store for PlanetSide we would be buying them as long as it wasn't say greater then 15 bucks. I don't mind supporting quality houses who are actively engaged with the community in building a truly market changing product.

I'll be really annoyed if they do this after telling us that resubbing to PS will get us into beta.
Fair enough, i had been looking for a reason to resub to PS for ages... but the simple fact is that PS is not worth $15 a month. My gaming time is maxed out with multiple awesome releases/betas recently (BF3, MW3, Tribes, SkyRim) and i haven't logged into PS for a whole month!
I would hope that the $100 or or more that i would have spent on subbing to PS, just to make sure that i am part of the first bunch who receive keys when PS2 Beta starts would not be completely wasted.
I was annoyed when tribes did it, as i had leveled up another whole Global Agenda account with level 50's just to make sure i got a CBT key... Then they decide to SELL them!
TL;DR I would reluctantly pay for beta the instant i possibly could. Then hold a dirty grudge.
