What kind of weather do you think we will see... from AGN last night we saw how epic the day/night cycle is, how do you think it will be with weather mixed in to it?
Just think, no moon out, pouring rain, cant see 15 feet in front of you, all you can see the the enemy tracers flying at you.
PS1 made some memorable battles, i cant wait to see what PS2 can do.

To be fair, Morto was a bit vague in his post about weather effects. Anywho, would be really great to have another layer of dynamics with weather effects. Just not sure it is possible due to graphical limitations. Is Forgelight that awesome!?

Puddles should form up during rain. I want to drive my ATV through them and splash mud all over the TR and NC!

Considering the in-game female avatars, this sounded like a very naughty comment to make.

We had several Weather threats already, but i guess thats the way its going to go from now on: we discuss a topic, it dies down, sometime later some guy comes along and opens the same topic again in a different threat, and all arguments and opinions get repeated, till it dies down again and it then starts again, and again and again and again.
But yea, night and weather. If you pay attention to the bit vid from the AGN, you see that clouds pretty much block the sun to some degree. Simple math from there on: Night with no full moon + Rain clouds + rain = its DARK! :>
Would be awesome if Reavers/Mossies/Galaxies experience turbulence due to wind and rain. Ground vehicles may slide and slip if they are going too fast.
Other than that I don't really want rain to effect gameplay, perhaps some limited visibility for infantry, but the difference has to be really small or else it would be annoying.

Proper rain is still pretty hard to make without killing performance though :/ At least in a game of this scale.

New information arises that warrants more in-depth discussion, though. It doesn't hurt the forum to have more threads, but it also doesn't hurt to use search and necro a topic for valid reasons.
Anyway, more types of weather would be great. I'd love to see snowstorms and duststorms.

Way to troll poet.
I desperately want dynamic weather, the pure ambiance would be so worth it. But since the dense clouds make it dark and the rain pounding the ground/equipment is loud, exploiting those things are a tacticians dream. I want anything to mix up the tactics and deployment of forces. Dynamic weather only adds layers of tactics and immersion. I want it!

Weather is cool, but not necessarily a deal or no deal.
And duke, don't go giving someone a hard time for creating a 'useless' thread, and then proceeding to double post. It's just dumb.

But once again, one of the biggest problems with actually having a lot of snow or heavy rain is the performance. If it's supposed to be a "variable" that changes the entire fight, that means no one is allowed to turn those effects off. Not being able to turn those effects off will not allow 4-5 old low-end machines be able to participate in those fights.
I've yet to see any game of anywhere near this scale that could've done it so that it made any difference without taking a severe performance loss.
I'm all up for different weather conditions that effect gameplay in various way, but we have to be REALLY careful when thinking about having particles (snowflakes, raindrops) do that.

If the weather effects can be toggled then the dev team shouldn't even bother spending the resources on them in the first place.

This exactly.
And if they can't be turned off (mainly just any particle based weather effects), then majority of us are screwed.
I'm fine with stuff like fog, sunny, cloudy that could have different kind of attributes, but I really don't think rain or snowing can work.

I hope there is weather in Planetside 2. I loved the Blizzards, Dust Storms and Thunderstorms in Planetside. It was always to epic to have a large battle going on, you get pushed back into your base, your waiting on the walls, setting CE, or just preparing for the enemys big push to the walls, and then a thunderstorm starts during the calm, just as the attack begins.
You should NOT be allowed to turn the weather off. I have a really good computer so i've always kept the weather on. I remember my outfit used to yell at me for keeping the weather on because i cant see as well as they can. But i'm also more immersed. A critical option like weather shouldn't be able to be disabled, most players will just turn it off so they can play better then those who choose to keep it on.
No offense to those who have older computers, but its a new game coming out on a new engine. It is probably going to warrant an upgrade on your computer anyways, weather won't be a massive performance killer with a spiffy new CPU or GPU. Planetside1 wasnt really optimized for multi cores either, assuming PS2 will be, your performance in PS2 might even be BETTER with an old Dual core anyways with the new weather.

Even if a wonderful game like PS2 does warrant an upgrade, most wouldn't do it for financial or other reasons. And let's face it, PS2 is a game that needs a huge playerbase for it to work as intended and with that in mind, you really can't ignore the people who don't have the newest tech.

How can you say it was better than my spam thread and then make one about the same topic? THAT IS UNREAL!!!
and the reason mine was short and sweet, is it was a question. If PS2 had rain in it i would buy the game, from what I had seen from that point rain was the icing on the cake.
Fact is i love rain, for some reason I have a bit of a passion about it. Dont get me wrong, I love the sun and snow, but I really do love the rain. Its not the wet bit, its the sound it makes. if its raining I can get to sleep better.
that better for you all?
And there is only 2 good bits about this thread.
1. My name was in the title.
2. Ive made a reply.
Now stop spamming and get a grip!
PS I saw what you wrote Duke! <3

So you want the game to help fall asleep? Just pop in a CD with rain sound effects :P

not anymore :(
Its going to be a great game with out without the weather. I think if they can accurately incorporate dynamic weather systems it would push the game over the edge into legendary status.
(oh god if its toggelable that would be a game breaker too)
ArmA2's night gameplay sets the bar for what all night gameplay should be like imo. Crazy visuals, light helps and hinders (22:30 in the second video, flare comes down too far, then disappears, and a truck light is noticed in the BG), and just feels different in general.
If they have a lot of weather effects they should also implement a weather forecast system so that you could adapt your gear to the different weathers i think, also then ppl who want to take tactical advantages of weather can "plan ahead".
It would be cool if you knew that tomorrow night would be dark and rainy and then equip a team with nigthvision and do some serious stalking ^^
