View Full Version : Quick Question
Hey,
I was going to upgrade my stuff this xmas, but I noticed ripjaw ram is $15 off.
My question is, ya'll would probably still recommend something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314
In a month from now, right? I'll be getting a 2500k and a newer mobo to go with my 460GTX, but I saw this was on sale.
Also, are there any good PSU on their sale? http://www.newegg.com/Store/Promotion.aspx?storeid=44&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL112311&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL112311-_-EMC-112311-Index-_-E0B-_-PC&Page=2
Like I mentioned in a previous thread, if I do upgrade my GPU in the future I want to go with a single card replacement, I plan to OC my cards and CPU a bit. Got 2 hard drives, mouse, keyboard, 1 CD rom drive, and a wireless internet adapter to power.
Is this a good CPU fan? I had my eye on a Coolermaster $30 one, but this one is $4 after MIr

Thanks.
(This turned out to not be so quick)
That DDR3 is good, but you will find that price for something akin to that weekly most likely.
What PSU are you looking at? I don't see it in that link.
The CPU cooler from what I see isn't the best of the best, but it is GREAT for the price. I actually grabbed one as well. Should of no issues putting a decent overclock on a 2500K. 5 GHz maybe a stretch though.

Sorry GOKU, I meant are there any good PSU for my needs in that three pages of deals?
I have no idea anything about PSU.
This maybe?

or this? only $10 more for 100 more w.

i dunno.
CAse dimensions:
L = 18inches
W = 8 inches
H = 16.5
these are rough
Dunno if that helps at all.
Thanks, and I don't think I need to hit 5 ghz :p
So you think I should get the ram now or wait? I don't think anything new will come out by mid December (when I will order the rest)! I could be wrong of course.
650W is plenty in my opinion unless you want the 100W for some random reason.
Ram you can get now if you wish.

Hey, I got one more question, srory
Due to blackfriday, I'm upgrading a lot sooner than I thought (I may be picking up my 2500k tomorrow)
This week I got
- The ram i linked
- The corsair 750w (I decided the $10 may save me the hassle of having to upgrade in the future for a bit longer)
- The fan I linked earlier
- And i may pick up the 2500k later today, and if not i will later
I need to replace my old EVGA 680i LT.
I have
- A 460 GTX
- A PCI network card
- 2 hard drives
- 2 front USB ports and 2 in the back, filled.
that need to be plugged in on this mobo. I don't plan on SLI-ing if i need more gpu power, even though my new PSU would be able to handle it, unless you think a second 460 GTX down the line would be better than a $200 whatever the new best budget card is at the time (next summer, most likely).
Can you give me some recommendations so I can keep an eye out for deals? If you need any more information, let me know.
thanks
If you want to SLI I would just grab the MSI Z68-G65 GEN3 (make sure it has GEN3). That has SLI and XFire support on top of being able to use Ivy Bridge CPUs which will enable use of PCIE-3.0.
But if I don't want SLI?
Sorry if I was unclear. I just mentioned SLI incase you thought it would be better than just getting a newer GPU next summer.
Thanks goku, hope u had a good turkey day
Ps: i just picked up a 2500k for $140 at microcenter... great deal there . Just need the mobo now
Bags what Microcenter are you near? Did you know you can get a combo discount of $50 on a Z68 board there?
About the SLI if you had any thought of using it I recommend getting it. Isn't that much more expensive and you will not be kicking yourself for not getting it.

I'm near microcenter in Columbus Ohio, but I already got the CPU!! :(:(:(:( Is there anywhere on this site that says that? I don't want to waste my time going back to return and repurchase if there's no deal at mine.
Also, why the G65 over the G45? The only difference I see is 2x more 6gb SATAs... and do I even need 4 over 2?
BTW, there's like a small smudge on the top of the actual CPU; I can see it through the packaging.
It's in the bottom right corner... and you can't even see it in the photo, so I shouldn't be worried, yeah? It's barely visible, but it's there.

Edit: on the vein of SLI, sure I'll get it anyway.
Edit2: I can't find anything about a $50 bundle deal right now. Everything I found is from 3 months ago.
Edit3: Do I need to buy thermal paste separately? No idea if any is included in this box. Thanks.
MSI changed their code in the motherboards. G45 orginally did not have support for SLI, looks like it does now so get that instead of the GD65.
The CPU may have been open before. Double check when you open it or go back and stress your concern.
Looks the motherboard promo is no longer going. Sorry. You got the 2500K for cheap at least.

How exactly do I double check it when I open it?
Easiest way is to look for finger print smudges on the CPU and if there is thermal paste under the HS that comes in the box.
Are you going NC now?

I think I'm just going to get a new one, tbh. Save me from any "o lol that is your smudge not us" crap.
And I think I'll hold off on the mobo for another week or two because I don't want to switch everything out during the school year.
Thanks again, goku!
Ps: Until I see something cool from the TR in PS2, most likely. It was always a close tie between NC and TR; I only stayed TR because no one wanted to leave their characters behind in PS1! Gauss and JHer are god.
BTW goku, does thermal paste brand matter?

I just buy the most expensive thermal paste. 15 bucks instead of, what, 3? Why not?
I got arctic silver; 4000+ 5 egg reviews and the sales associate (I couldn't find the thermal paste lol) recommended it.
BTW, the microcenter in columbus, ohio, is currently doing a $60 off deal if you buy a mobo and a 2500k, so I was able to snag my Z68A 45 G3 for $70.
Total amount expected to spend this year:
~$500 for a 650w psu, Z68mobo, 2500k, ram, and fan
Total amount spent this year:
~$335 for a 750w psu, Z68mobo, 2500k, ram, and fan
Yay.
Nice Bags. I <3 AS5 (note ass lol) too, I only use that for thermal paste. Time for another GTX 460! ;)
Yup. I'll wait and see how PS2 runs first, however. I think my 460 will pretty much max anything I play right now, and the prices will only come down.
Hey GOKU, what's a good, free benchmark program? I just like comparing my old to new whenever I get new stuff, but I can't get unigine heaven to run on my 64bit OS.
3DMark2011. Uniengine may have a 64-bit installer instead of 32-bit too.
I got the 64bit installed, but it refuses to recognize I have the 64bit .net installed or something.
Thanks.
Weird. I have used Heaven a couple of times on my machine and never had that happen before.

Yeah. I can't install the 64-bit .NET because I already installed 32-bit .NET, but one game I was playing over the summer needed me to install 32-Bit .net instead. I don't remember which game.
