I don't understand. How does a single barney kill three NCs? Makes no sense just like the T-Rays 1k screenie! :D

I'll not reason logic, but I'm quite pleased to see the Beamer fires a beam instead of bolts of energy. Better suits it's name :)

I like the fact that it suites its name more but am also worried about damage. Most Laser type Weapons do Tiny bits of damage and are easily countered by moving in any direction

I don't think it has to really effect the damage. It can still be a "single projectile", but the range could be short enough that the beam seems intact as long as you hold trigger.

EDIT:

The turnaround vid mentioned two different firing mechanisms:

1) High Intensity Photonic Beam Discharge - would indeed sound like a continious beam that goes on till you stop
2) Single shot trigger mechanism - the more common single shot mechanism! :D

I asked this in the Vanu Twitter Q&A but...

"In the VS turn around video when showing the diagram for the Beamer there's a window that says "High Intensity Photonic Beam Discharge/Single Shot Mechanism" does this mean that the Beamer will have two different firing modes? Do the rest of the weapons in the VS arsenal follow suit?"

It looks line a continuous beam instead of a single shot coming out of the Beamer. So is this perhaps it's secondary firemode, the "High intensity photonic beam discharge (that just rolls of the tongue, AKA "The Rainbow) as opposed to the single shot?

It seems that the "Rainbow" beam would only be effective at maybe close to middle range, anything beyond that would fail, perhaps it's not as strong as a single shot but the continuous fire makes up for it.

A single pulse from a laser still looks like a beam in a still shot

Remember the Shock Rifle primary from UT

That's what I thought too, but the beam eventually leaves the muzzle of the gun. So either the screenshot was taken exactly at the time it was fired or it could possibly be a secondary fire mode.

Nothing wrong with a little harmless speculation

Yea? what about the lightning gun or rail gun from quake, those are not easy to dodge!

Photons aka light travel almost 300k kilometers per second.
You never see that move with human eyes or even with a superfast camera.
It's either off or bridging the entire distance from the source to target, there is no transition to perceive (in the ranges we are interested in)

Then again it is a game and the rail gun from quake will have the same effect as the lightning gun from quake in a still shot even though both do completely different things.

Looks very Star Trek phaser to me. Must be set to stun since the NC are not being disintegrated.

.
whatever

All I have to say is the VS screenshots were worth the wait. The Scythe looks pretty badass to me.

I'll probably stay with my original Empire, but it's nice to have so many reasons to try a different one in PS2.

^^ I might end up having to have to play all 3 empires again... They all sound pretty great to me.

I notice that the NC keep getting shot in their stomachs, below where their armor ends.

Armor the entire torso I said, but those NC capitalists kept cutting corners.

Are you saying leather armour is innappropriate for the 29th century?

Speaking of the beamer I hope we can see burn marks where players get shot. Like a black decal is added to the armor with a scorch mark so after a while you just have tons of markings if your shield is shot away.

If we get scorch marks when shot by VS energy weapons, then they will be getting holes and blood splatter. Is this where this is going? ;)

I think they mentioned it starts with one faction per server. Then again, I dont have interest in playing all the factions anyways, I prefer always just working on my main :D Never really played horde during the 5 years I played WoW. Never played anything but NC in PS.

Or they thought he was their spy and met to retrieve information.
Little did they know that he is on another side now - his own!

And he did it by hot-swapping beamers. Now that's skillz.
