It would have been better if he had planted a VS flag up on top of that hill :)

Good thing the walls have roofs now, it would of been a snipers wet dream otherwise.

They weren't kidding about vertical gameplay.
I hope this doesn't translate into boring fights where people stand on top of mountains spamming down and never pushing forward.

Why would TRay plant a VS flag when he's clearly joined the TRarmy

Awesome shot that shows the huge variation in terrain.

Yeah, there is no comparison between that and the large flat planes of the hills of Planetside. The level of detail still doesn't cease to amaze me. I love all the overhangs and little nooks and crannies to use as cover. Will make flying map of the earth very very entertaining.

Anyone else thinking of Captain Carnage now?
He could totally hit that base from that clif

Ballin!
Those catwalk roofs might save your from sniper fire, but not from my vanny shells and artillery.
I also notice that unless the vehicles can somehow survive a drop off a cliff (I can't slide down the face of the wall anymore the way I did into Searhus' crater, this face is too rough), it looks like there are only a few very confined ground paths into the base itself. It's obvious that air superiority will be a lot more important, at least for this base.
I can very clearly see the deliberate planning in the way this base was designed though. Depending on what strategies the attacking commanders use and the equipment available, it can be a real nightmare or a piece of cake. Same goes for defense. Can't help but daydream about all the strategic possibilities.

Soon to be the NC owning 90% of the mountains.

Seeing as all the TR have are pistols, I don't doubt that.

People not pushing forward is one of my fears.... They have to have incentive to move forward. Period.
Yeah, not sitting back and spamming sniper/missile/tank/MAX/whatever fire is a good thing. Bases look like they won't reward long-distance junk at all. Imagine people actually having to *gasp* assault the base from the ground! I mean, actually driving, running, or walking to get into it, not just drop into it like they do now, or sit on a hill and spam ordnance into it.

It looks like a hell of a stronghold, this base. There will inevitably be the zerg just shelling the CY, but then that's where an air outfit will come in and rape them off the face of the cliff. And then the ground assault will be ruthless without some cloakers stabbing everyone on the catwalks or a blackops outfit taking the gen (or whatever the PS2 equivalents are) offline.
Either attacking or defending, winning a fight here will take a lot more thought, tact, strategy, planning and coordination than your average Leza bridge battle did in PS1.

that's what i was noticing as well but given that snipers can now get a kill shot via headshot, i think it's a good trade off.

Bases were just fish-barrels for air in PS1.

Are we talking bullet fired into water or VS energy fired into water? either way it does no damage to anything in the barrel.

Reminds me of Skyrim, tbh. Which is a good thing.. the terrain is awesome.
Though I do hope we have a couple somewhat featureless plains areas for straight on tank slugfests.

Especially if they don't create the tank warfare area, then make it so tanks can't get in it, like what I heard about the Desolation island.

AND THEN THEY REMOVED THE ABILITY TO PULL TANKS ON IT! DESPITE THAT EVERY BASE WAS AN LLU TECH LAB! RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Yeah, not a fan of what happened to the battle islands. The starting individual rule sets were cool. But Desolation had way too many ossified trees either way.
